  • This project is now on hold. After reviewing my enjoyment of the game in general, the time investment necessary to create good content, and the applicability of my storytelling strengths to this medium, I decided to discontinue my authoring work for now. I want to stress that this is a personal decision and has nothing to…
  • Awesome review, thanks! Indeed, one of the main nagging things about this quest (and what other reviewers brought up, too) is the problem of 'dead space' -- that is, there's a fair bit of walking between encounters (even though there are quite a few encounters on the map... over 30, I think) and interactables. This problem…
  • Absolutely great data... people need to listen to this. The foundry needs to give the same rewards as official content, or nobody will play it. Period. You can talk all you want about idealistic story-focused players, but be honest -- this is an ARPG-esque MMO that's about killing dudes and taking their lewt. While there's…
  • This is just like the 'feature' that allows griefers to silence people for 24 hours by mass-ignoring them. Just like chat auto-ban, my brain hurts whenever I try to imagine how this feature was ever thought to be a good idea. HOW does a feature like this go through even the most rudimentary design review (such as asking…
  • Yeah, having a farm tab (or category) would be the best solution. It was suggested many (MANY) times in COH, and never happened. I'm fairly sure the same thing came up with the STO foundry, and I don't see a farm tab there either. Why? The answer is simple -- because it'd be admitting defeat, and giving tacit approval of…
  • That's exactly what they did. You can gain X xp every 5 minutes -- and if you reach that cap, items stop dropping as well. X is the equivalent of 2 'solo' difficulty mobs, hence all the notes about "no xp after the first 2 ogres". [disclaimer: I haven't done any real testing to verify this... mostly because I honestly…
  • I believe the nerf is basically a limit of xp you can get every 5 minutes while on a foundry mission, and if you get past that, the mobs stop dropping loot as well. This means quests with 'fast and furious' fighting are going to feel it a lot more than combat-light quests. I think this is going in the wrong direction,…
  • Great feedback (and ideas), thanks guys! I'd quote the last two posts, but basically I agree with every single word in them. ;) Unfortunately it seems like we won't be able to move from the star rating, it's strongly embedded into the system... even though I personally agree that 'like/dislike/neutral' is better for UGC.
  • Yep, I posted something very similar here. Trying to 'win' against farmers means everybody loses. Deja vu...
  • This this this. People, stop seeing things in black and white. There isn't a "them" and "us". There are NW players, and that's it (note that I'm not talking about exploiting... that's obviously over the line). I personally dislike farming, and you won't see me doing any quests anytime soon. However, many of my guildies…
  • Yes, something like that would be the best solution -- preferably as part of a tagging system so the farmers can farm, the 'hardmode' people can have their challenge quests, and story authors can tell their stories. However, that would be tacit admittance (and dev approval) of the fact that a large portion of the…
  • A great initiative -- it's heartening to see someone doing this. There were some people doing the same thing in COH, and it was awesome for unravelling some hidden gems there too! I won't submit my quest, since as a Foundry beta tester I have a huge exposure advantage anyway. ;)
  • So... any specific numbers? Was xp gain reduced by 20%? 50%? 75%? (And yeah, removing rewards from the foundry is NOT the way to solve the farming 'problem' -- if you even consider people speedleveling to 60 a problem. Sigh.)
  • I have posted on this topic so many times in the last few months... looks like it took the first few big farms to hit for people to see what the Foundry is REALLY about for most players. Anyway, reposting something from COH... Ye Olde Historye ofe COHe Farme Storye Arce* Let me tell you a story about farming in City of…
  • The same thing happened in City of Heroes in 2009 or so. I guess that entire 'learn from the past' thing is overrated. -- This is an unfortunate truth, and it matches my experience in the COH MA. Lots of time investment, and basically no payoff unless you're only of the lucky top 10. -- Yeah, this has been suggested...…
  • Fighter - Dungeoneering Rogue - Thievery Cleric - Religion Wizard - Arcana Ranger - Nature (eventually) In my quest I tried to add skill checks liberally, generally giving information, though there is one case where there's a gameplay benefit to using [Religion]. As a rule of thumb, as long as you don't make a skill…
  • Word. You can kinda-sorta mimic this with class skill checks (arcana to cast a glamour to distract or mislead the guard / dungeoneering to figure out a weak point in the door / thievery to pick the lock / etc)... though that may not necessarily apply to your quest.
  • *casts Summon Meddling Kids IV*
  • Zoinks! Anyway, getting rid of the exploit (and exploiters) is a good thing. Getting rid of farming, however... I hope Cryptic is not going down that road. It's been tried several times, and the outcome was always the same.
  • I dunno... completely unrealistic/otherworldly boasts and exaggerations are usually a clear indicator. Of course, it's entirely possible it was a drunk post instead. :p
  • That's OK, but there's a really really small number of people (mostly other authors) who would even consider doing that... see my list in post #11. I don't see how it's possible to keep the review queue from exploding when new quests are being put in it FAR faster than people are reviewing them. A search field wouldn't…
  • I think a lot of people fell into the sarchasm.
  • Featuring is basically Dev's Choice from COH... with all of the issues that came with that. One of those issues is indeed the fact that this process simply does not scale to the amount of content in the Foundry (or even 1/10 or 1/100 of the content in the Foundry). There's no downside to submitting your quest for…
  • I definitely agree about the need for an overhaul on the entire search/browse system. However, making it mandatory to have story/dialog/whatever will not deter farmers from making powerlevelling quests. They'll just cut and paste 'Lorem Ipsum' or 'aaaaaaa' into the dialog, and click through it. In fact, everyone should…
  • Oh, I certainly agree with you that some serious incentivization is needed and the system you outlined could work (in theory at least) with the note that the playtime limit could be bypassed by zoning in and afking on the reviewer account until 25 mins were reached. Another potential exploit is "author makes quest on…
  • Look at it from a pragmatic player's perspective. I'm a player who wants to play foundry content (and get rewarded for it). Let's assume playing through a story quest takes half an hour, and playing through an xp farm quest takes 5 minutes. I have one hour of playtime for the Foundry.* I can play one or two of the top 10 /…
  • Yes, I suggested that before as well. Also see this thread for some insight, including a response from badbotlimit (Foundry producer) about possibly implementing some incentives for playing less-known content. The gist of the suggestion is to give some sort of reward to players for playing content without many plays (which…
  • Yes, those tags would dominate... and that's their purpose, to let players find the content types that they want. Most people playing foundry missions want fast xp/loot. No matter what you do, farm quests will be there. With a tag system, people could just opt to filter out those tags entirely, and thus be able to actually…
  • OK, I admit my data may be an outlier, but I only got one box so far [3 days ago] and sold it for 400-ish. Still, I'd consider selling it at like 20-50 AD as long as it didn't cause me to lose AD from posting fees / after the auction house cut. For the record, I agree that lockboxes should be destroyable... and yeah, the…
  • I just chuck my lockboxes on the auction house. People have been buying them... so far.
