Put simply, if you're creating quests for any other reason than "I enjoy creating quests with the Foundry" then you're doing it wrong. Who you want to appeal to is entirely up to you, but if you're trying to make a quest fit into a certain mold and not something you'd personally like to play, YOU'RE GONNA HAVE A BAD TIME.…
I'm not sure I understand the poll responses, to be honest. If you're asking "what do players want?" then I think as authors, our #1 rule should be to try to design quests from a player's perspective. I'm not saying try to please everyone, because that's just not going to happen. In my opinion, a Foundry quest should fall…
That's just the way it is. Ask anyone in marketing. You should only expect about a 3% response from any type of advertisement. (Which is exactly the response percentage given in your quest example, interestingly enough.) That's why huge dollar amounts are spent on marketing campaigns. The wider the net, the bigger the…
Wow, seriously? My advice is go audition for American Idol or something, because making quests in a F2P video game is never going to give you the constant adulation that you apparently require.
Great attitude! And Gods forbid I ever try to make an hour-long quest. The little 15 minute dungeon spanks I've done so far have taken weeks of work! ;)
Does it really matter why it's down? What, is someone armed with that knowledge going to reach through the internets and fix the "server issue"? The fact is, it's down. Deal with it. This is a new game. There will be problems. Hopefully, problems that occur now will only improve the quality of the game further down the…
Of course, but having to do it in-game is such an unnecessary workaround when the same thing could be accomplished (much more efficiently) with a 3D map editor instead of the pixelated mess we have to work with now.
-Scaling and hue for objects (Didn't NWN1 have this, like almost 10 years ago?). -Skill nodes (dungeoneering, religion, thievery, etc.) I know, exploitative. Put a budget of 3 per map. -Boss encounters - again using a "budget" system. Give, for example, 20 points to distribute among a variety of attacks and abilities.…
Or better yet...give the player the option to skip the final chest. Most of the time I don't want that garbage anyway, LOL. And after all, the quest is finished, the chest is just a bonus.
Yeah I ran one the other day where the chest was buried in the middle of a wall. Why can't we have a sticky of unfinish-able quests? I don't see that as naming and shaming if we keep it purely informational.
I really think as long as you don't use any character or place names from WoT, you'll be fine. For instance, just name Dumai's Wells to Dumass Wells or something ;)
The game is free. You don't need to spend a dime on it. Remember those days when you had to pay for a game AND a monthly subscription and the game STILL sucked?
Incredible work. THIS kind of content will be what keeps me playing this game. I'm a Foundry author as well, but I was left stunned by your mastery of the Foundry tool. Made me want to throw in the towel at first, then it made me determined to come up with something better (or at least try) and that's a win/win for the…
My quest "An Occurrence at Faolon's Field" is now eligible for the Daily! I've also made some updates and improvements to quest flow and design. Check it out and let me know what you think! Info in my sig:
