Another way to solve this is to go into your keybindings and re-apply the settings for your alt key. Search for the focus setting, clear key assignment and assign focus to left-alt only.

Have to admit this is the right way to do it - nice tip. Very confusing that it says alt-key but in keybind it actually is special keys.
