  • Zeb, your campaign is so far the best piece of content in Neverwinter as far as I'm concerned. You need a job on the quest design team. If content of that caliber continues to be released on the Foundry, it's likely I'll do barely anything but UGC. I especially loved the subtle lore-based foreshadowing. Brilliant. Looking…
  • Sadly it's not really a case of "dont like'em don't use'em" because it's the game dynamic and social expectations that are the problem, not the fact we have pets. Having pets is rad. But if someone believes their character isn't the kind of guy who would have a pet, or simply doesn't want to have one for whatever reason, I…
  • Never seen that in a game with Oceanic servers from day 1. ToR's Oceanic servers are dead because they released it 6 months after launch and nobody wanted to server change. I was one of those people. Well, that and there's no point in playing the game once you finish the story. Rift's Oceanic server that I was on (which…
  • Gotta say, I'm pretty proud for being able to read that despite not having practiced Japanese since high school, heh. Only because there's no kanji though. Bane of my damn existance... But yeah this is old news. 5 classes is what we're getting but they're working on more, and planning for bunch more after that. Would be…
  • I disagree. All the MMO launches I've seen (which is a helluva lot), if it's a major MMO the Oceanic server (official or unofficial) gets instantly full, and the population has to overflow into 1-3 other servers. Even for a less-than-fully-hyped MMO like Neverwinter you'll get plenty enough Oceanics to fill up at least 1…
  • My guess would be to prevent the spread of rumors about the game being sub-par when it's far from representative of the final product. And yeah that whole unrestricted access to other parts of the game thing could be part of it too.
  • Personally I don't have problems playing on US servers. I live in a capital city with relatively good cable internet so I don't have issues. However I know that a lot of other Aussies do get pretty bad latency to US MMO servers, and they're not even all in rural areas. A lot of city dwellers I know of for some reason get…
  • I believe it's from this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfKQEGOzUrc I may have linked the wrong one (don't have time to go through and find the exact part), but it's definitely in one of the ESO Casts.
  • I agree and it seems a little strange. TESO is also doing a somewhat similar thing. Pets are rad and all, but every single person is going to have them so I'm not sure why they made that decision.
  • They do it by cooldown. They're just powers that have a longer cooldown than everything else. As far as I'm aware anyway.
  • The TotalBiscuit dev interview revealed that the Auction House uses Astral Diamonds, but the game also has gold as a currency. Hmm...
  • Yeah unidentified items are indeed in 4e. It doesn't take anything to identify them though - just a short period of time. Chances are you simply right-click to identify an item, or buy a scroll from a vendor. Can't imagine them selling them for cash.
  • That wasn't the point I made though. I'm not talking about being able to roll all the classes, I'm talking about being the same class as 20% of other players instead of 10% of other players. Specialisations at lvl 30 probably fix this anyway so most likely not a huge deal.
  • I think he means that because there are only 5 classes, that means that a relatively large percentage of people will be each class, compared to a game with 10 classes for example. It's a legitimate criticism and one I partially hold myself, however as more and more classes are launched down the line that will cease to be a…
  • Can't make up my mind at all. Right now I'm tossing up between a Tiefling wizard and a Dwarf cleric, but Dwarf guardian is also on the table. I'll use the beta weekends to try them out so I can make an informed decision.
  • Pretty hilarious misunderstanding. I hope you didn't lose any sleep over that, mate. ><
  • If Hexblade counts, then Hexblade Warlock all the way. :D
  • I'm not very well versed on 3.5e, but I know 4e actually does have a legendary item system. These items have their own personalities and goals. For example, a Mace of Pelor would want to help and defend the weak, heal people and do good deeds. If the player does these things, he gains repuation with the item. If he does…
  • Gonna drop some D&D Next knowledge here. D&D Next addresses the problem of having everyone in the party geared out in magic items by the end of Heroic tier. The problem being that having so many magic items make each discovery less meaningful. Next makes magic items less upgrades on your current items, and more unique…
  • It seems to be a way they've designed the classes in Neverwinter. Each Neverwinter class is based on a class feature in 4e. In the 4e Player Handbook 1 there are 2 templates given: Guardian and Great Weapon Fighter. Same concept as the other classes. Basically each Neverwinter class is a sub-class in 4e.
  • See now THIS is a good, thought out response. You make good points here. However, there's a big difference between DDO and the D&D game I am envisioning. 4e. 3.5e and 4e are extremely different animals. They would be just as different from each other as any other MMO. There are relatively few mechanics that really…
  • The answer isn't "Because DDO". If MMOs didn't copy each other, there would barely be any of them. Because DDO if anything is an argument in my favour. DDO is the only MMO of its type. Neverwinter follows the footsteps of a huge number of MMOs. Why should they made a D&D MMO? Because DDO. And only DDO. Your second point…
  • What interests me about those screenshots is the 'ability scores' and 'background' tabs. Ability scores was something I wasn't expecting to be in Neverwinter, what with it being fairly watered down on the D&D stuff. And backgrounds in 4e and Next are just incredible fun. I like it.
  • Depends on what restricted content they'd give us in return for the box cost. But it's definitely more convenient.
  • If it wasn't then I'm sorry. Kinda felt like a poke at my thread from the other day. But yeah both our points still remain regarding some people out there.
  • Referring to me I'm guessing? There's a significant difference between raging/complaining and asking for opinions about a legitimate concern. Without questioning the status-quo nothing will improve. The trick is taking on information instead of dismissing it, and voicing your issue in a proper way instead of predicting the…
  • Well the question is aimed at the devs, not you. Hence the thread. My point being, this themed MMO is similar to a whole lot more MMOs than the 1 it would be similar to if it was a D&D MMO. A D&D MMO would be a whole lot more unique, despite the existance of one (which takes place in neither the same universe or D&D…
  • If you want hard-hitting questions: Why choose to make a D&D-themed MMO instead of a D&D MMO while the success of DDO proves that the concept is viable?
  • Even B2P or subscription games do it. It's a common thing now and really no big deal. Cool thing about it is that it's completely optional. You lose nothing for not playing the beta, nor are you entitled to play it for free. If you don't want a founder's pack that's absolutely cool, you probably have more sense than the…
  • DDO: Incredibly successful F2P game where classes and races are restricted. LOTRO: Ditto Champions Online: Very successful F2P game where powersets are restricted. If anything this means more success. You know what's rad about Neverwinter? No box cost. You're playing a game for free. If there is a restricted class or race…
