  • Donzie: i'm andraste@halflingpaladin. no need to reroll dude, play what you want.
  • edited main post
  • I'll give you that shad, in the most simplest terms, you're right. but there's a big difference between that and what mmorpg "pvp" is, by my reckoning.
  • "lol didn't read" typical, dude. The context is exactly the same that you use. You said that if, around the table, you did not pvp, your dm sucked. My experience is totally opposite. the more there was "pvp" the less the game was any fun. I'm making the point that you're doing a fallacious bit about personal experience. If…
  • sounds like the problem isn't the loot system: it's the fact that you can auction dungeon loot.
  • let me stop you right there. I've had several dms. The one who wanted us to fight each other the most? he's the one that sucked. He kept telling us to get into fights. Yes, this was dark sun, but he was *telling us* to fight. You've got a real, real broad definition of "pvp" a better statement would be "if you had no party…
  • 2 points: 1. i have said over and over again have all the pvp fun you want. 2. No, i'm not going to "get over it" class homogenization exists in many, many games for the sake of e-sports style pvp. Go play one of those. I don't want it removed. I never said i want it removed. I said that when the two inevitably butt heads,…
  • There's a tangental relation.. i guess? but when a policeman harasses you based on how you play a video game, then call me and we can talk about how pvp/pve is racism. *rolleyes* seriously dude, you KNOW that's a silly hyperbole. PVM is interchangeable with PVE with old school folks "player versus monster" as i understand…
  • my one request: Release bard and kobald at the same time. Thank you.
  • Oh and uh, just to repeat the clarifcation: i have nothing against pvp in this game. have at it. Just don't go changing things around in the pvm portion of the game to balance pvp. It'll be like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Further, i'd rather pvp reflect the pvm differences. Fireball flinging wizards…
  • the terms aren't used, but... okay.. i know one example for fact. Combat chapter, 2nd ed advanced: The scene described talks about initative and how it works. the dm controls all monsters, the players control a cooperative party. Combat chapter, 4th: Multiple scenes, but in every one, dm controlled monsters are putting…
  • the preface of each edition talks about how the game is intended to be played. I believe without exception (can't remember the 1e preface exactly...) it describes buddies playing pretend and working together, not competing for ladder tournaments in pvp. further evidence: roll up a character on athas reborn, a 3e nwn pw.…
  • that's great. My question to you is then: Why are you choosing to play a dungeons and dragons game, knowing full well the ruleset was not ever intended to balance for player v. player? @ turkman, DnD is more than IP, it's a system. A system that has never been balanced for player v. player combat, as it was written as a…
  • Once you relate a video game argument to racism, your rights to talk about who is and isn't being ridiculous are hereby revoked. It's like some tangential clause of godwin's law or something To clarify the poster's (poorly stated) point: There's not much co-op rpg that you can do anymore, its all about pvp, and pvp balance…
  • Development time and focus shifting away from the game as intended is especially impactful with a monetization system like what cryptic is doing. However, if they go that route, i wont really raise a stink about it, it just seems to me that well.. if some game does what you want better, why petition to change another game…
  • Honestly, 4e seems like the dream setup for a mmorpg. It's not super fun around the table because it's so hand-holdy (in my opinion of course), but as a video game system? should work wonderfully.
  • well i dont know how 4e goes, but if it's anything like the last 30 years... Wizard wins. With the right build you might draw your sword before he wail of the banshee's your face into dirt. To clarify: i don't mind pvp being in the game. I mind changing the game for the sake of pvp. "nerf wizard" coming to a forum near…
  • Lol this is great. thanks XD
  • This is dnd. Neither of these compete. Wizard drinks blood from their skulls.
  • I hate to sound like a jerk, old chap, but why not just go play Guild wars? DnD is a pve focused enviornment. that's how it's been since the 70s. Instead of trying to change something you don't like, why not go do what you do like?
  • I'm a freebie user, but i'll buckle down and spend what i have to get guild functionality once i get in and start up a halfling-themed guild "Avandra's Stepchildren" because halflings. :)
  • i'm all for pvp options, but it should never be taken into account for balancing purposes. the rules for dnd just don't jive with pvp, and the only way to make them jive with it is turn this into wow. No thanks. have your arenas and all that, but don't fuss at dev's to nerf wizards. In dnd pvp = the wizard wins.
  • 4e. Honestly, i don't know why we haven't seen a video game based on it before this. 4e is the tabletop version of multiplayer video games. Its a giant bore around the table, but it will get along with mmorpg format quite well.
  • If your DM is running a game where you square off over a battleground... get a new DM. Well i guess maybe not so much if you're a necromancer archetype that's roflstoping everything into the ground. Ever since the 70s, "pvp" pretty much meant this: dead fighter, victorious wizard with full HP. We are talking about how this…
  • This guy is okay. Halfling guardian coming on april 30th! :P
  • THac0 is wack0. friends don't let friends consult tables!
  • We aren't underestimating them. We are simply saying that those players will probably not be happy with this game, as it's a dnd game, and in dnd "pvp" = The wizard wins. The games not made for it. Go play a game that is made for pvp, like EvE.
  • i got in towards the end of 2nd edition advanced. When 3rd edition let me play a halfling paladin, i was happy. 4th.. ehh i'm glad to see it in video game format, but at the table i'm not pleased.
  • From my experiance with how thought-deficient people in online games are? 45% of the playerbase will be drow or that special drow type that you get with the founder pack. 40% will be teifling. 10% will be elves. 5% will be people i enjoy being around. special note: probably all named some re purposing of Drizz't or Legolas…
