I have the exact issue. And it has seemed to have gotten worse over time. This isn't an issue on your end, its a combination of the client and the server/hardware on Cryptic's end. The client itself just isn't very well put together plain and simple.

For solo play GF is really fun. For group play though, it can be extremely frustrating. The tanking mechanics in NW are extremely fun. It's great that it works for you, so you probably haven't bothered to look in the technical issues, bug reports forums. There are a ton of customers who have basically lost the ability to login and play.
Ive had this issue since beta ended, some days it's worse than others. Today it's really bad. When I start the client the character avatars aren't even loading, I can see the circular loading animation instead. During beta I didn't experience any of this.

They need to re-think the AD costs of changing the appearance of armor pieces. Customization shouldn't have such a high expensive behind it. We are talking about quality of life which translates into player retention.
