This has been a known glitch since closed Beta and probably even earlier. Just keep filling out those bug reports and hoping that they will get around to fixing it... soon (tm)

I am assuming it doesn't matter if they are alive or dead in the time frame so here goes. Nathyrra, Catti-brie, Mazzy, and Aribeth for a lot of reasons but mainly because they are easy on the eyes and good in a fight.
