Without taking the topic off the rails completely. Ill try to offer a quick explanation. Companions can exist in three states, inactive, active, and summoned. For summoned companions, augments are the most popular. However, that completely ignores the benefits of active companions. You are allowed 5 active slots, all companions provide an active bonus. You get that bonus as long as the companion is in one of your active slots. In effect, they become another level of gear, with the added bonus that you can summon them from time to time.
In many ways they work similar to artifacts, all artifacts offer an clickable effect, but even if you have no desire to use the effect they are worth having for the stats they provide.

Diden't know they all had a Passive like that, that worked even if not summoned, Thanks for explaining
I went to go look - it does not. That's probably an oversight and hopefully that changes in the future, but right now, it's an iLevel 83, level 60 weapon.
Yeah, I'm leaning towards them being mistaken. I'm fairly sure it was always 1 character slot. I'm actually kinda glad people have the option of using zen to buy these now, even if I paid cash for all of them up to the Dragonborn Legend pack.
After some thought, and thanks to your feedback, I decided to go w/ the Feywild and Guardian packs instead of the Hero of the North one - both come out to 6000Z less than the Hero pack, and I get more options to work with. Thanks again!
