I only have a green Mimic as a defender, is that sufficient survival for the little guy? Or do I need to look for a blue/purple companion, especially one with AoE attacks?

I would think that a green companion will get stomped pretty quickly in "new content". Find a cool tank that suits your playstyle (whether green/blue/epic) and just upgrade it yourself. I now wish I took the War Dog on my main HR coz I'd really like to use it with my current playstyle.

Yeah, I have the same problem. The dog is on my GWF where it doesn't get used or doesn't make sense. But it was my first toon, so I opened the pack there *sighs*

Hm right, thanks. Have to check for available tank companions then.

So far I have heard good things about the Yeti in Mod 6. Galeb Duhr probably still remains the best tank companion in the game, though, I reckon.

I love the archer setup, just sketchy on what to use for 'at will', lately it's been rapid and split or elec. depends if split is going to grab the friends near by or not heh, using thorn, cordon, & roa, going to see what the 23rd brings it may switch up.

I'm a trapper hr and i tried combat also. with these changes the giants in the third region of spin ward rise kill you almost every time. i do everything perfect and they almost always kill me. they cc chain me and murder me. i feel so frustrated Ive gone through 400 pots and over 60 major injury kits. im so close to quitting because of the frustration Ive been having with this new mod. im not trying to sound like the person that wants my class to be op. but i keep watching cw's gwfs gf's and tr's pass through this content with ease and im dieing all the time. and im very good with my trapper. lots of experience. and i have level 65 greens and blues on.41k hp.

    i'm not alone! yey

I have the War Dog on my main Archer HR. He's great. Survives really well (although I'm only in Drowned Shore as yet) and if you slot Aspect of the Pack he knocks mobs down pretty often. Not fantastic at holding agro against an Archers burst DPS mind you, but OK at splitting mobs off from a pack if they're chasing you.

I use Split the Sky (with +duration of 5/5 feat), cordon arrows, then RoA. Works pretty well. Though I see alot of you use Thorn Ward. As a Stormwarden Archer, would it be better to use Thorn Ward instead of StSky?

I'm archer build, and my favorite companion has always been the shield maiden. Had her from the start and upgraded her slowly and now she is Legendary. Has great survivability, actually does decent damage for a companion, and keeps most mobs away from me, most of the time.

Although Thorn Ward doesn't hit quite as hard as Split the Sky, the resistance debuff it applies makes your other powers hit harder than they would. It also casts much faster and hits more frequently. Additionally, without Split the Sky in my encounter tray, I don't accidentally ever hit Throw Caution while dropping a melee encounter. Can be a real bummer to shred your already miniscule defenses by mistake when you're surrounded. Those are the reasons I use Thorn Ward over Split the Sky.

So my encounter lineup consists of Rain of Arrows, Thorn Ward, and Cordon of Arrows. I use the melee counterpart to CoA very frequently as well.
