I'm a trapper hr and i tried combat also. with these changes the giants in the third region of spin ward rise kill you almost every time. i do everything perfect and they almost always kill me. they cc chain me and murder me. i feel so frustrated Ive gone through 400 pots and over 60 major injury kits. im so close to quitting because of the frustration Ive been having with this new mod. im not trying to sound like the person that wants my class to be op. but i keep watching cw's gwfs gf's and tr's pass through this content with ease and im dieing all the time. and im very good with my trapper. lots of experience. and i have level 65 greens and blues on.41k hp.

Um I'm a Trapper Hr myself and I don't seem to be having any problem with that place. I'm lvl 65 and doing great with a lil teamwork and solo play. You probably need to switch around some stats and get some def/deflection up. Also pets that's heal do help out too.
If you are struggling, then I would recommend wearing gear with HP. You'll have to give up your level 60 set but it will boost survivability by a bit.
I haven't reached this area on live but when I did it on preview, I didn't have many issues as trapper. The giants took longer to kill but I didn't suffer any issues as described. On preview I was wearing the blue pve set that could be purchased from the ToD campaign store. Forgot the name of the set.
Get eternal set in wod, and never look back... Thad added hp is beyond sick and the stats etc. blow every other piece of lvl 60 epic out of the Water.
Btw remember that it levels with you, so it will get better stats each level, currently it gives my CW 53k HP at lvl 69, without the set he have around 26k.
I hit this hump for a minute around L63-64. Use your roots. Basically I went to root-dodge-root some more dropping extra DPS when they were still and I was relatively safe. Kinda fun actually.....

He said he were fighting giants. Roots dont work against them.
I'm a trapper spec myself, and whilst I've had a few near misses, all in all I'm doing alright. Perhaps a healing companion might help as well, if you can't get into a party?

yeah i tried everywhere to get into a party. everyone basically said **** you. some literally said it. then others complained saying i shouldnt be asking for help and how i need to l2p and how badly i do and how i need to just quit. ive played a lot of games and this community is the worst.
Can I ask what your rotation is? On Preview, I ran my Trapper HR through here, and I didn't encounter much of any problems. Also, how is your life steal doing? I'm still running at around 15%, so the self-healing is quite nice. Where is yours at?

After more testing i have to say i agree with the OP. Hr playstyle is about waving in and out melee as the ture hr is meant.
EVERY time i go melee i m dead.
Hr is now the squishier class in game by far and its getting frustrating. Going back staring at the tree....nice tree.
1. destiny is rightI did not notice that it was CC immune mobs.
2. The quick fix for durability while leveling is to get a minor frost which prevents mobs from attacking you for a few seconds.
3. I'm still experimenting and I am putting 5 points into bloodletting. My math is that's 5% more LS when in melle and you are most likely to take damage. Given the new stat curves that's a decent boost for 5 points.
4. Use dodge. I suppose it comes a little easier to me as I play a tank almost as often as my HR so the attack animations are slow and obvious to me for most mobs. You can actually walk away from most of them.
5. I am using hindering, plant growth, and steel breeze all of which can be used without completely closing with mobs.
i never used a lot of lifesteal i use fox hindering and constricting. i never wanted to use a lot of lifesteal i always depended on my dodges to keep me alive and these mobs are ignoring my dodges half the time. i time everything perfectly and i still die. the giants hit me into the electricity and that one hits me on crit. the swing one hits me on crit. huge health pools and crazy damage and the electricity is a prone also.
If it's that bad try using a frost enchant. They physically cannot attack you when it proccs. They can move and follow you but cannot attack. it might give you the seconds needed to survive. Also check your latency. I've been hitting lag spikes in most of the new content and that's what kills me so far...
Sometimes, changing around the skills you're using can be a game-changer.
This.
Fox shift, I don't use this on my bar anymore but it's my go to if I have issues with something. Not only do you get Fox's Cunning immunity, and nearly up all the time as trapper, you get damage immunity when you use fox shift at the right time.

I'm currently lvl 68 on my main HR SW Archer and I am dying a alot (thanks lag) and chugging many potions along the way. I have zero regen atm (didn't need it in Mod 5) so I'm having to drink lots of healing pots in between fights.
I'm using Cordon of Arrows now and I like it. Nice to blow stuff up for a change with big crits. Good combo with Rain of Arrow as well, while I change up between Thorn Ward and Split the Sky although I hardly get the chance to cast StS more than once due to its slow animation and hard-hitting mobs during quests. I do tend to stay close to the mobs to get Combat Advantage from my Wild Hunt Rider companion with Aspect of the Pack. I foresee a few more changes once I am able to do dungeons at lvl 70.
Our pain is self chosen.

My guess is u are not equip with lvl70 armor set, which is important. If u are using them, its impossible the giant could 1 hit u. I can last more than 6 hit from the giant range power with the lvl70 pvp set. The swing and lightning power is HAMSTER. They got slow animation and u shouldnt got hit by those except if u are not paying attention. If u plan to rotate blindly, try use forest ghost before going in. If u are not lvl 70, i advice to avoid doing the giant quest except if u have more than 50k hp or have a team with u. Never played a trapper myself so cant give any advice on rotation but i m doing fine with my archer. Good luck.
Edit : Oh yea..try get 1 giant down asap. Ur life will be easier when there is only 1 giant left.

im 70 now but when this was posted i was 68. kinda hard ot use 70 armor set when im 68.
my HR is my secondary character - i was very happy to rez her after not having much fun as a combat HR in mod5 .. now she is trapper and i've been doing quite well with this rotation Fox:Constricting:Binding -- I generally start in archer stance, take the fox buff on approach, fire off the two roots at largest targets and then swap to melee and use fox shift to gap close, finishing with the oak skin heal before shifting out of range to start over. I am a high deflect halfling, and have only gotten to 3rd area in Drowned Shores - but i've taken on mobs of 10-12 and survived even if only barely in some cases. I'm pretty happy so far, as she has no artifact weapons, is wearing 2/2 (something) and royal guard and lathanders artifact belt. Whether or not she'll be able to get to 70 is a question I still have, as I'm not sure Cryptic really thought this out well for new players (Gear wise).

There is nothing wrong with the HR class. I have two (combat and archery) HR's myself. The archery at level 65 gets to become a bit easier with the new aoe root + damage encounter. Used in conjunction with Longshot (buffs damage temp), Hunter's Teamwork(with beefed up feats) and Hindering Shot, most things fall before they get within 30' of the character. Bare in mind that the build I run is a high power, high crit stat based. I am waiting to get the combat HR up and see how pretty he hits for.

Mind posting a more detailed explanation of the archery spec/style you run?
I am having a very hard time with my archery HR. I'm level 63 now and since I had very little gear back in mod 5 (GS of around 12k) mobs tend to eat me alive if I'm slipping up even with a guardian angel as companion. I got some level 61 rare gear which imporved my survivability, but my damage dropped a lot. At least I'm not constantly dead :P
And respeccing to Trapper/Combat is not an option to me. I am an archer and ranger and that's why I play archery

I'm levelling an Archer 60-70 right now. Only just started so just pinged 61 and still adapting. My old power loadout/rotation stank the place up in the new content so I'm now running Fox's Cunning/Hindering Shot/Constricting Arrow. I also have the War Dog companion who does a good job of agroing/distracting mobs.
I'm holding my free respec until I reach 65 so I can spec into Cordon of Arrows as I think that's going to be key to solo Archer play. I'm also thinking of dropping Stillness of the Forest as mob density now makes getting that bonus tricky.

Okay so I reached lvl 70 last night on my SW Archer and the last 5 lvls went a lot better than the first 5 after I acquired the set from the ToD campaign store. Those extra HP really helped the process although I still drank a shipload of healing pots (only discovered the higher lvl ones later...) and the gear scales with your lvl so it was nice not having to worry about gear along the way.
I settled on Rain of Arrows, Cordon of Arrows and Thorn Ward in the end. (Aspect of the Pack and Lone Wolf, Seismic Shot, Forest Ghost, Rapid and Split the rest) I used a Wild Hunt Rider as my companion. I open with TW and then cast CoA in front of me followed up by RoA and then another CoA, drink pot(s) and loot. Didn't dodge too much - lazy play from previous mods. I'd like to jump into some dungeons now to see how different things are. My guess is I'll be dodging a lot.
Our pain is self chosen.

I'm level 67 now, just got the Eternal set from WoD, have about 43K HP. I'm a Stormwarden Archer at the moment, though I'll probably switch to trapper when I get to level 70.
I use the same rotation as lirithiel, though in a different order. I try to avoid mobs getting to me, so I cast Cordon of Arrows on a mob group, then Thorn Ward, then Rain of Arrows in the middle of CoA. CoA has this slight delay before it attacks which lets me cast other stuff on mobs before they notice they're getting attacked. The CoA activates during RoA casting and the mobs are pulled nicely together under it. By then another CoA charge is up so I cast that to catch up anyone who's not dead yet and then just use rapid shot until they're all dead. If any escapes and runs to me, I'll switch to melee and use all my melee encounters and sometimes Forest Ghost to get away and wait until my ranged powers are off cooldown.
Seems like I have to power through till 65 and grab CoA right away... I run with TW, RoA and Hindering Shot at the moment, though I use the three charges of Hindering Shot mostly to quickly apply Prey to a new target once the old one is dead. RoA reliably kills of mobs too, problem is keeping them at one spot. And the lack of a tanking companion (I use the angel) means I have to tank them to my face for now.
I also only have the Eternal chest piece as I don't have enough reputation stuff to buy the rest of the set.
Thanks lirithiel, that helped me quite a bit and maybe I can make it work too! Seems I need to bully someone in my guild to help me cover until 65 then... :P

Granted it's not enthralling gameplay but it does the job on the way to 70. The Eternal gear is available from lvl 61 in case you weren't aware. Just wish I'd have gotten it from the start.
Also I'd consider running with a defender companion instead of a healer for questing. You get to facetank mobs slightly less.

I only have a green Mimic as a defender, is that sufficient survival for the little guy? Or do I need to look for a blue/purple companion, especially one with AoE attacks?
As for the Eternal set, I do have the chest piece already but not the rest. I lack campaign currency to buy it (I'm a rather new player and only have two boons per campaign before Mod 6 hit)

Oak skin needs a colossal buff and heal a % of your health. Upon reaching 70 it's going to only freakin heal 5% of my health!
