I was looking at the Feywild pack a few weeks ago and it included 600k AD. This week, the AD are gone from the pack, as are the AD from the other packs. When and why were these removed? Or maybe this just a bug? This is making me seriously reconsidering buying any of the packs.

That's interesting - I just checked the various pack's pages myself, and the ADs are indeed gone.

Bummer!
I was just telling a D&D friend that the "Guardian of the North" pack was a great way to get into the game, but this development seriously detracts (subtracts!) from the value.
That pack certainly made it a lot more enjoyable much more quickly for me when I started out, as I'm not able to play very many hours per week -- I'm lucky to get Invoke and Professions done most days (and I'm only up to 5 characters now).
Having a nice chunk of AD on day one to get some basic gear, jewelry, supplies, etc. made a huge difference and probably cemented my decision to stick with the game in the short haul ... and I'm still here two years later.
I don't remember if it was 600k AD that came with this pack but it sounds about right. That would take an additional 600k AD / 500 AD per Zen = 1200 Zen = $12 US to purchase, essentially a 12 dollar hike in the price of the pack.
Ouch.
Not quite the same value. But still worth considering, as having that purple companion and top-speed mount for each character is still very attractive -- just more expensive now.

They'll drop in value even more with Mod 6.
Currently a purple companion is the "best" you can get. But once the mod goes live and orange companions are the best you can get, the packs don't even offer that anymore.

Actually, from the preview server, it looks like they didn't add a new 'level' to companion quality, just gave them five extra levels per rank. So white goes to level 20 now, green goes to level 25, blue goes to level 30, purple goes to level 35. Of course, that could still change.
Regardless. I definitely agree that removing the AD from the packs was a terrible move. If they're going to remove the AD, they need to lower the price by the equivalent amount, or about 40 bucks for the Hero of the North.

Hmmm, I could've sworn I saw someone post a screenshot of a level 40 companion on SCA, and that the final upgrade will cost 1 million AD.

You are correct. You can get legendary companions which all supposedly give 15% (iirc) of the companions stats. Well it says it does... A shame the packs aren't in the zen store. Me wants the sylph ):

They have always intended on removing the AD from the founder packs over time. The AD and other Founder-related Perks were meant only as a stimulus of sorts, a bonus to those who invested in the game. This was stated back in Alpha and Beta. We've already seen them finally get around to it with the Founder packs, it was only a matter of time before the Feywild pack was updated too. I am not sure when or if they mentioned the same would happen with the Feywild pack but seeing how it was with the Founder packs, this should have been expected. Nothing shady folks, it was meant to happen from the get-go.

The problem, from a player feeling viewpoint, is the timeframe. If they had been removed at the launch, I doubt anyone would have thought anything of it. However to pull the AD at two years in, feels wrong. You'll be hard pressed to find a person that it does not rub wrong, because when you leave a limited time offer there for two years it feels permanent. Then when it gets yanked away, people feel like something was stolen from them. This maybe what they said they were going to do from the start, but the timeframe in which they did it is a huge PR mistake that does nothing but anger players. I really don't get this company in things like this. I swear that no one thinks about how it's going to look PR wise before they do something.
Another issue is that they never actually SAID it was temporary. It was just part of the packs. If they'd had "For a limited time only!" on it, I don't think anyone would have complained, but removing it quietly, without even letting anyone know, and without having ever mentioned it was a temporary thing? That is a little shady.

I don't think anyone is trying to say it's criminal, just another example of things that are poorly communicated.
There may or may not have been statements in history about the AD on the packs being temporary, but the simple fact is that the packs themselves did not say that, nor was there warning about when the AD would get removed.
I agree completely that this reduces the value of those packs to something far below the prices asked. at this point, the only one that seems even mildly worth it imo is the dragonborn legend pack, mostly due to the account-wide bag, or was there some obscure post in history stating that those are temporary, too?
either way, I think that it if removing the AD was inevitable, then it would have been a FAR smarter move by cryptic/pwe to announce the AD removal ahead of time and use that as a way to convince people to buy the packs sooner rather than later. people would still grumble about it, but it would be a great deal more fair and would probably have made the company a few more bucks.

100x this. Anyone who was considering buying a pack will probably pass on it now, especially if the price never goes down. The sales of Hero of the North will drop even further than they already had and will have no chance of recovering. This was a baaaaaad move.

oh, and just to clarify, I mean that they should have announced the details of who/what/WHEN/where/why/how/huh, not just the supposed "we'll get to this eventually." deadlines have a way of inspiring people to do things far more than just a "we'll do it when we get around to it."
I'm fairly certain that the packs giving too much value wasn't really something going through many peoples minds. I don't really know what the deal is with them doing lots of things to put people off from spending. Usually they try and get you to try and buy more, which some people do in order to get such and such from low rng, but there's so much that has deterred me. The high cost is the initial hurdle you have to go against.
