I had the same issue, possible work around: start in safe mode.
On the launcher, press options, and under "game" you should find the safe mode option.
This seems to work, although I still can't delete characters.

One of my friends found that when she tried to repair ARC it started placing things on her desktop but she didn't realize this until she found the launcher was running from her desktop every time she crashed. Can you all make sure for some ODD reason, preview isn't installed to your desktop?

Try running Neverwinter.exe without starting ARC at all. It's usually at c:\Program Files (x86)\Perfect World Entertainment\Neverwinter_en

Again, be sure ARC is completely off, not just minimized.

Another thing to try is disabling any graphics card overclocks. Most, if not all, modern cards have built in overclocks / speed boosts. For example my AMD 290x is factory set to run at a max of 1350MHz. However, if you look at the GPU specs on AMD's website the 290x is only rated for 1000MHz. To fix this error I would enter Catalyst Control Center and find the AMD OverDrive Settings. Check the box to Enable Grraphics OverDrive if its not already set. Then look for the High Performance memory clock settings: slider bar. In my case it's set to 1350MHz so I would lower it to 1000MHz. This forces the card to never try and go faster than it's factory rated speed. So find whatever speed your particular graphic chip is supposed to run at and set your card to stay at or below this speed.

I don't have an Nvidia control panel handy but I'm sure they have something similar.

Note, if this fixes your issue then it's almost impossible to tell who is at fault. It could be Cryptic's program being too picky, DirectX / Direct3D drivers not working right, graphics card drivers have a bug, graphics card just can't handle the boosted speed, power supply is fluctuating just enough to throw the graphics card off, or probably even more reasons that I can't remember right now.

I too am having this issue except I am not even getting past the Cryptic loading screen. Here is the error I am getting.

I have tried Force Verify and to load in safe mode. No joy.

Just adding my voice to the Din, it is kinda weird, I can get on the Main Server and Owlbear no problem but like others here I get that same error on Neverwinter Preview.

Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP2
    3 GB RAM
    Nvidia GeForce GT610 2GB
    Core 2 Quad Q6600

Update on my issue. I had shut down Arc and launched directly from Neverwinter's Launcher application (I had downloaded Neverwinter prior to Arc coming around) and it worked just fine. Seems there is some kind of conflict between Arc and the Preview shard though I do not know how.

Anything else you changed? I tried running from the launcher in the folder, then going directly to the playtest folder and the hitting the gameclient and it still crashes on the second loading screen

Nope. Everything else was normal. No force verify nor safe mode.

EDIT: Actually, I did recopy my main character to Mimic (which gave me two copies of him on there). Once I got on, I deleted my other characters that I had on there.

I'm getting the same error. Im not using ARC launcher.

Has anyone found a workaround for this directx error? Would be nice to actually be able to test this mod/OP.
