Anyone else excited by this? I been using windows 10 for a bit now and its making my performance better with Neverwinter already and Directx 12 isn't even out. I wonder what PW's plan with directx 12 is gonna be and how much more capable older machines with more cores will be able to run on games especially this one ^.^ I hope for major improvements. Whats your guys thoughts and opinions on Directx 12?

Honestly, my thought is that right away it'll be buggier and cause more crashes. If you look at a lot of games, every single one has some issues where you have to toss it back to dx9 still for compatibility with certain (non obsolete) hardware. I expect dx12 will cause more crashes and bugs for the first 2 or 3 years.

Nice, I'll be upgrading to windows 10 too, despite any game impacting issues. The more that use it, the faster games will conform. Is the free upgrade for win8.1 users out already?

You could upgrade right now if you wanted to the beta of windows 10 which I am currently running, but the upgrade for free will be out when the OS is released and I will be upgrading every computer I have to windows 10. The design and better performance is just amazing. They cleaned up quiet a bit of memory bugs in the OS making it run faster for me at the very least.

P.S sorry I didn't know which thread to put this under ty zebular lol

It's all good. Either one is good or even both as that comment is on topic for either. If the OP wants, I'll merge the threads but I think he wants specific feedback in relation to Neverwinter performance, when mine was more of a show of my love for Majel Barrett and Voice Recognition & PC control.

Thanks! Is that beta only for 8.1 users? If I upgrade now, will it still count for me to get the free upgrade since I would have replaced my 8.1 pro with 10beta? Or will they make me reinstall 8.1 pro first?

The beta is for anybody, I think as long as you have your windows 7 or 8 key you will be fine. I wouldn't expect them to force you to downgrade just to upgrade they just recently pushed out the full beta of windows 10 from technical preview so my best bet would be that once betas over they will push the full product to everybody whos already in the beta. And if not the upgrade should just run the same it should just ask for your windows 7/8/8.1 key. It appears they also just updated the site http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso But my suggestion is either dual boot it -I did that in the beginning- Or just replace your current windows because you want to get in on the feedback the more feedback they get on what you want changed the more likely they are to improve things for you. I have been using the windows feedback and only 11 ppl complained about the auto hide not working properly a small number and they still fixed it before the actual release which is good :3.

On the DX 12 note, The major difference in DX 12 is it is going to use its multicore technology on all games weather or not they are coded to because its just in the background sharing more information to each core. I have a i7 in this laptop which has 4 cores 8 virtual so I expect things to run smoothely and I also think once PW upgrades neverwinter to DX12 which should be soon because of the Xbone The game will get a whole lot better for me. When I was on neverwinter on 8 I got super lag in PE on gaming asus laptop which had a 860m so no reason to be getting sub 30 frames in PE but sense windows 10 I have been getting well over 60 in the intensive areas.

P.S Zebular if you do upgrade and you like to use flashdrives the quickest way and simplest to put it on the flashdrive for me was http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/ you would just choose the windows xp/7/8 in the options

That is bizzare with you getting pe fps drops. I have pretty much the same asus rog with the 860m and I don't have any problems in pe.

I'd rather wait for the results that listen to marketing and be let down if it flops like dx 11, maybe flop is too strong but you know what I mean.

As for win 10, I do wonder why it is free for win 7/8 users and how they intend to monetise it. I know they've been struggling to get people to upgrade from xp for a long time and again from win 7. Not sure if we should be worried or not, but it's potentially a good thing if they're not after our data.

I think it's to try to get people to upgrade and keep using their os. 8 flopped hard. If enough people aren't using their newest os they would start having market control issues.

I don't understand either everything self overclocks and I would get such weird bad lag and thats sense buying the darn thing but sense I upgraded to tech preview and 10 they cleaned up alot of code that must of been lagging my computer down.

They are giving it for free because of the disappointment of windows 8 and another reason I shall explain. After windows 8 launch disappointed so many people they are trying to win there consumer base back the second reason we can infer is that there is still a large base of people on windows 7 if everyone on windows 7 came during the free upgrade they would have access the microsoft store and you know how alot of people are with micro transactions. So they are hoping to win us back and make money from us on the microsoft store.

atm i dont see any real problems with win10 as main OS, no need for dual, running win10 since they launched technical preview,

    few things to note
1)some antivirus might not work yet, though win defender can be enough, AVG seems to work
2)had some problems with virtualbox if u need it, newest version didnt run, used one a bit older - that worked, but that was about a month ago, might be fixed now
3)check how much space it uses for recovery - my win10 install decided to use 55% of my 120gb ssd for recovery :D

It's only going to be free for the first year for Windows 8.1, Windows 7, and Windows Phone 8.1 users. After that, if you don't upgrade in that time, you'll need to buy it.

I don't know if this is just me but sense the upgrade to win 10 from the preview neverwinter seems to have better detail but it could just be my eyes playing with me xD

Also side note, Tabing out is so much better on windows 10 I can instantly tab out from neverwinter and multiple things without it being clunky.

That's what I meant from struggling to get market share away from xp and then onto 7. Though they're not google who only has a mobile os that monetises from adverts as well as their store. Well they do have a lightweight desktop OS, but that's not exactly popular. I'm just hoping there isn't something to bite us whether it's paying for an over-abundance of extra features moving onto a sub fee in future or data harvesting. On the other hand, if more things did get supported by linux, which things are starting to for gaming, then they do want to continue to appeal to people.

Sure but that's a huge market to hand out a free OS too. I thought the £20 to upgrade to windows 8 pro was pretty reasonable when it was on offer if it wasn't for the whole mobile optimised interfaces that you had to use I'd certainly consider it more. The full price of the OS is a bummer though.

The Cloud has changed the way Microsoft and all other companies do business. They can easily give away software for free while charging everyone a small monthly fee to use their Cloud. Microsoft hopes Windows 10 will drive many more to their services and drown out 100's of smaller Cloud providers. It's EVILLY Genious!!!
