Rise of Tiamat Preview Patch Notes NW.35.20141208a.1
This is going to Preview right now. There will be one more smaller build to address a couple more things for next week, including a surprise for PvPers!
If it's not something other than Drow armor it's not much of surprise. It's the only tangible thing for PvP in the known pipeline. Really anything else than a new map is disappointing.
he wrote something like "a build to set up things"
i dont know much about coding he cant talk about a single new tab at a vendor

Sorry to say that ( well not rly) but u will be dissappointed. Never put ur trust in devs, u will be healthier. Ofc its new drows set, they r doing like last time with profound, new pvp sets between mods.
Have the gear and skills, but lack the friends to play with? Come and apply for Essence of Aggression. We have been here and strong since beta. (Immature, rude, and arrogant people will not be accepted)
with the release of tenacity along with the grim and profound sets, they increased the glory cap from 25k to 50k, so they might change it again with the drow sets... 50k to 75k mabey
The one thing that it is all but guaranteed to not be is a new PvP map...
Especially since they said they are not and will not be desigining new PvP maps in the immediate future literally two weeks ago...
Why should they design new ones? They have maps ready to go all that is needed to be done is for them to release them. Designing and releasing are two very different things. So you can not guarantee that it will not be a new PVP map when they HAVE and HAD PVP maps ready to go since launch. Most likely you are correct but you wording on that matter is very wrong. As they do not have to design them as they already exist.

Why do you claim that they have maps that they just have not released? You may be right, however I've never seen anything saying that, so I'd like to know what your source is for it.

It was a behind the scenes video of them designing the PVP maps before the game was even released.
Id be MORE than surprised if pvp maps were on the way. I heard a rumor about different pvp maps, but could never find any videos of that. It may have been scrapped or it may have been for the Russian servers I dont know.
I think it would be safe to say if they had maps, it probably would have been released by now. Plus, whats not to say it wasnt GG or IWD PVP? Considering both those are new to the game from launch.
So they are rolling the Drow sets out as some big accomplishment, "man you guys should be grateful we are throwing you this bone".
Honestly I wish just once per week, the DEVs in their "meeting" would spend the first hour of each week as a group going through the top threads on the forums. Then they may actually release content we have begged for since launch.

Some people ask to play as dragons. Some people ask to have Bis gear and a level 60 character for free within five minutes because they only want to PvP. And some people ask for PvP maps.
You see there is a big difference between not seeing the requests and deciding the requests are not the right choice for the game. In this case I really don't agree with all the whining about more maps and I'll continue to point out how REAL PvP games like League of Legends only have a few options.
This is because the more options there are the more split the player base is and inheritently the worse the PvP experience is.
Even games which supply many options end up with only a few played options and the rest are dead.

Big difference is a MOBA versus an RPG. While Dota has only 1 real map. every game can be MASSIVELY different than before because you can change your character from game to game, play different roles from game to game, or even change what build you want to play game to game WITHOUT having to sink hundreds or thousands of dollars into a character.
If they want to go that route. They need to completely redo the entire model in how they do gear.
Alas, thats not how THIS game is though with the massive AD sink for each and every character. The game is NOT alt friendly, it is NOT even multi-build friendly because even swapping 1 artifact to another to change silly things like +300 ARP for +300 power costs millions.
Swapping 1 enchant rank 10 from defensive +1200 HP to +300 Lifesteal costs millions.
So you CANT swap classes/builds very easily at all.
Also, the entire purpose of PVP is different. In Dota its to run around and kill NPCs AND players. earn HAMSTER to upgrade your dude for that game. Each game has multiple "progression" where as here, its who can "stalemate" on a node the longest.
If you want to take the approach, "This is because the more options there are the more split the player base is and inherently the worse the PvP experience is." Well adding 1-2 new PVP maps within Domination does NOTHING close to splitting the player base.
What Splits the player base MORE is artifact gear that creates the "haves" and "have nots". talk about splitting the community......
Since they went this route, the HUGE investment per character. They need to allow multiple WAYS in which to use that ONE character, to give it the same appeal of the "multi-character" MOBA games.
What I mean is this:
In Domination you may play 1 role as a GF, The buff bot. In a game like CTF though, you might be the ideal flag runner. Or in a game like "slayer" or "deathmatch" you might excel at being a 2 shot king. Your playstyle/options/ and even effectiveness can change from scenario to scenario.
THIS is why they cant just take a game like DOTA and apply that logic to it. You need to address the core of what players are looking for: A Variety of experiences in which to play. With games like DOTA you swap characters/builds all the time. games like FPS your constantly playing different weapons/maps/objectives (look at CS). Games that are MMO focused. You either have a generic PVP system that does not have a huge gear factor - which then its easy to swap back and forth OR if you have a big gear investment, you HAVE to have multiple "scenarios" to play your character.

League of Legends only has one map because the roles of the champions are well-known, and the compositions rarely (or never) change. This cannot happen in an RPG with class balance.
Online RPGs with the class balance system need a last man standing team deathmatch arena; that's the single one map that you can pull out the equality of the classes to its best. Good MMORPGs like WoW and FFXIV have this match, and their concepts are so good that they're considered the most balanced PvP mod for this balancing system.

MOBA is a gaming style for eSports; RPG isn't.
This is why a similar arrangement here: Arena PVP, would actually work really well.
The entire premise on how classes are balanced around GROUP play lends itself to that type of game. Rock Paper Scissors type balance (what we see here in NW) makes it so diversity in a group is ideal.
There have been TONS of good suggestions such as death match, CTF, arena or even make modifications to Domination such as a ONE node domination (true KOTH type).
I mean ALL of those things would be massively played. Worried about splitting community? Thats SIMPLE:
1) Put it ALL into the SAME que system. So PVP Que could be domination or slayer etc, you never know.
2) Select a set TIME for that type of pvp.
- just like GG is its own time slot. You could also have other forms of pvp during other time slots.
A good example of #2 would be during FOUNDRY hour only , allow players to play FOUNDRY pvp maps for NO rewards.
- Cant be "exploited" for any gain.
- Immensely fun
- Creative outlet
- Easy for premade matchups
- Doesnt cannibalize on existing pvp.
- DEVs DONT have to create ANYTHING!

The lack of maps was initially a bummer for LoL but at least they were working on stuff. In addition to twisted treeline and summoners rift (which they remade both and had seasonal versions) they worked on another 5v5 map, though changed their mind and released another game mode, added ARAM, and added other quirks to make things interesting (such as URF mode that I'm gutted that I missed out on). Not only that but they do have over 100 characters to choose from, so there is a lot of diversity. When there isn't a separate queue for pvp, it hardly separates the community. They also have regular balance changes, while over here balance just got worse.

Tell me a Con..... I dont see one
I (and other Foundry authors) would LOVE to be able to create PvP maps.
The one major problem is -- how do PvP players choose among the HUNDREDS of PvP Foundry maps that would exist?
