Okay some of the senseless PvP map demands have been removed.

Come on guys, Jeff is saying hello and looking for a welcome, not an angry mob of players asking for something that is not up to him to decide. He is an Environmental Artist which means he designs the visual appearance of the maps.

If you have suggestions for our new environmental artist it would be best to keep it general such as mutantdemocracy's post suggesting less reliance on invisible walls. If you want feel free to suggest aesthetics (not layouts or strategic positions) that could be used if his boss tells him to work on a PvP map but please be respectful.

If you see a developer is an artist then don't write the same thing they have no control over and over again. I left some of the lighthearted responses but seriously try to keep this thread either fun or within the realm of an artist's position.

Oh, by the way Hi Jeff! Welcome to the NW Team and thank you for stopping by to say hello.

I can't wait to see what you bring to NW. Be sure to let us know when it comes out. We'll be patiently waiting....by religiously staring at a countdown timer. :D

    hey Jeff, welcome!!
    - Dont forget to give us spoiler pics from next mod environments :) Ohh and show us more of the concept art, cause that is always amazing and worth seeing!
    - tell us more about the pipeline/tools that are used by you guys to make a concept end up in the game.(i have in mind WiP pics of the models/textures and such)

PS: Congrats to all team for making such nice environments, imo is the strongest point of this game next to the combat system!!

Hello Jeff, hope you enjoy your time here and dont get to regret creating a forum thread ;) cause you know, we can be a bit overwhelming sometimes.

Neverwinter is indeed a beautiful looking game with some things like the detail of the Dread Ring background castle needing a bit of love. Many folks consider Sharandar the most tedious zone/content but imo its the most beautiful too. That goes for both visuals and ambient sounds. Now if only Champions Online also gets some much needed enviroment improvements..

    Hey Jeff, welcome to NW!

For all that we players scream about the game's many flaws, the quality of environmental art is usually incredibly good. The environments look great. Your predecessors have set a high standard- I hope you have fun building on this and exceeding it.

I might be grumpy, but I do like shiny things- so go go go.. May your textures tile and your geometry never leak :D

    Welcome Jeff.

I'm looking forward to seeing your work online. The art in this game is amazing although most people just run thru to the loot. Castle Never is a great example of the great artwork. I'm sure you'll be adding some beautiful artwork to the canvas.

As for the PVP stuff - they are the most vocal on this forum so that's why you'll probably be getting hounded for new maps :)

Let us know what you do.
    I aim to misbehave

    Hello and welcome!
It's great to see new people in charge of the environment art, it's one of the things that NW does really good, and I'm sure it'll keep getting better! :)

Oh welcome to boundeverythingawinter ummm neverwinter.

    Indeed! :)

And I also would like to see player housing added - maybe since you are now on the NW team this might be a viable option for the future.

    Greetings, Jeff!

Regarding map design, I'd like to see more areas like Dwarven Valley. I don't like areas styled in a single concept - Dread Ring is an excavation, Well of Dragons is a desert, Icewind Pass is a winter forest in the mountains, but the Dwarven Valley has different areas combined together, like the village, a forest, ore mining complex, snowy area, area covered with grass etc. It feels like a real world, something whole and big rather then a random piece of environment cut out of the world (Icewind Pass).

To sum it up, I'd like to see new areas to consist of different locations - a lake plus some forest plus a small town - this is cool. A desert with bones here and there - is not.
M6 almost drains your soul given how boring it is. (c) joocycuzzzzzz

I agree with mehguy, it's much more fun to see areas with different subareas, it makes a map much more varied. (of course it can have a general theme)

This might not be your area of expertise, but there are abilities that cause people to lag out badly that lower the performance of the game when you are fighting HEs or against dragons.
I love when Im in GG PvP and a thousand flashing shields start whipping across my screen and making the game unplayable.
Not sure what power it is since I dont play GF, but I think it is Knight's Valor.

If it is not your area of expertise, could you please pass it along that flashy and unneccesary graphics do nothing for immersion and only cause performance problems like the devs had when they did the Tiamat livestream. If you get a bunch of people together in one instance these flashy powers only cause the area to lag out.

Might want to address some of the issues that come when running the game in low to medium graphics. Sometimes the rendering doesn't catch up quickly enough and you can see straight through the floor! Makes for one trippy Protector's Enclave for about 10 minutes.

Oh gee, would an environmental artist be the right person to poke and pester about the horrific lag people get from the shadows in Malabog's Castle? (Turning them off improves performance, but then you're not looking at the game in all its magnificence.)

Oh also, I doubt it'll happen but worth a shot, see what you can do about opening up the areas a bit more. Protector's seems a bit old after a year. Another suggestion would be to incorporate Night and Day in all zones. If they were able to make it night during the siege and halloween events, why not at proper times for folks? You could base it off either the user's local time, PST, or even GMT! Just something to show some progression of time rather than "Today's forecast at 12:00PM is Sunny!"

I'd like to see more variation in indoor/dungeon areas, especially if it's possible to improve intangibles like "creepiness". For instance, I solo some of the older dungeons a lot for fun, and it seems that some of them could use some freshening up and/or more variation (something I tried to do in the final map of my Foundry, for better or worse).
