"Siege Defense Effort" profession bug, only me?

So I ran the introductory task, but my level in the event profession is stuck at 0. I discarded the event assets (which I am worried means I've now screwed it up beyond repair), but still stuck at level 0 and cannot re-run the task. Any ideas?

Hi.

Today when I treid to collect the assets for the new craft profession (Siege defense) I got the assets correctly but the task is stuck at level 0.

So now I can't do any tasks for this craft profession.

Can someone tell me how to unstuck this task ?

Changing characters and switching back will usually unstick a profession level that failed to flip over.

Failing that, you can also try gaining a level in any other profession if this is an option readily available to you.

Yeah, hiring is one-time. You've borked it permanently.

Changing character or leveling another profession didn't solve this issue.

Hello, on my main I had no issues creating my first Siege Master and then lvling the profession to lvl1, but for my 2 alts I had a problem where after finishing my Siege Master and obtaining it - the profession lvls up to 99% and doesnt pass to lvl 1 and I can't start doing the profession...

Is this happening only to me or somebody else got this issue too? Any workarounds?

In your screen, you don't even have that the profession unlocked. You need to first make the Siege Master with the accompanying Pushcart that will then also give you your first level of Siege Defense Effort, the 5 second task.

The problem is that the profession hasn't levelled after hiring the worker, like how sometimes alchemy doesn't level up after you complete a research step.

Other people have been reporting it but my posted workaround didn't help the one who replied again afterwards.

For that bug, try any or all of the following:

Switching instances
Travel to a new zone
Go to Character Select then log back in on that character
Load up Gateway and enter that character

Please report back so I can submit a report to my CM on this.

@zebular, none of the above worked. I think I found where the problem came from:

THIS WILL NOT WORK (this will cause the bug):
0. You have a free task slot
1. You click directly on the profession
2. Click on the task
3. Start the task
4. Get the reward for the Siege Master (5seconds) task
5. FAIL

On the other hand, THIS WILL WORK:
0. On the professions window, click on the new profession
1. Now click on the tasks window
2. On one of the free tasks click to start a new task
3. The new profession will open automatically (because it was the last selected)
4. Click on the task
5. Start the task
6. Get the reward for the Siege Master (5seconds) task
7. No bug, profession levels without problem

Interesting observations. I did all my hiring in Gateway, which behaves a bit differently from managing profession in-game (cannot select a specific profession slot as it autofills left to right and top to bottom), and had no issues with the profession on 12 characters.

I actually had this observation doing it through the gateway. Tested in-game too, now I have 3 alts instead of 2 with this bugged >.<

Same bug. I leveled up the profession via gateway on one particular character and it's stuck at 0 with no chance to re-run the initial task.
I've tried logging into the game several times and swapping characters to no avail. All other characters I've done in game and they've not seen the same bug.

Side note, wasn't he describing how to make the levelling process work (or not work) starting from completely undone? This is not where we who have the problem already are at. What we need now is someone to set our event profession level to 1 as that is all we need (well, some people might need their assets reimbursed if they tossed them trying to fix the problem...)

It has now been about 24 hours, and my character can still not use the event profession. That is approx 4 (minimum) tasks that can not be performed because of this bug. We are missing out on a limited time event and would really like it, if we could get a fix...

Have same issue on my CW. Nothing unsticks the task. I switched instances, changed zones and logged in and out. It also is borked in Gateway as well.

I have the person and pushcart but wont let it finish. Please get a ticket submitted for this asap. We are already two days into event and will be unable to get certain rewards as a result.

I submitted a ticket on this on day one when I couldn't get it to level up.

I have not heard anything back and I still can't do anything with the profession.

Are you able to Cancel the Siege Master task (top right corner of task in Overview, a Circle with a Line through it should appear when hovering over it) and then re-do it using the steps described before?

On the other hand, THIS WILL WORK:

The task does complete originally; it gives you the 1 xp and the worker/pushcart. It just doesn't level you. Thus there is nothing to cancel.

I have the same issue with 1 of my toons... the others all had no problem at all. I started/ended the hiring task through the gateway... I tried reloading the page, swapping characters, trying to get another task, trying to see if it persisted while logged in to that toon, etc.. Needless to say all failed.

I did submt a bug report in-game about it, but I figured I would add a "me too" to this thread.

If it helps, the way to solve this problem is to incorporate the following logic in proper code in a hotfix. Two items:

a. if exists asset:siegedefenseworker then set professionlevel:siegedefenseeffort = 1
b. if NOT exists asset:siegedefenseworker then set task:recruitsiegedefenseworker = available

In this regard a. fixes the problem for people who did not dump their worker trying to fix it (because there is only one level to the profession) and b. allows people who did to start over. I hope this can happen shortly

I would like to thank PWE/Cryptic for creating an event I was actually interested in, and then <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> me out of rewards by failing to respond to an issue that 100% prevents me from collecting on the rewards I am actually interested in. So, Thank you.
