Mod 4 crashes on Linux and Mac

theshadowbreakertheshadowbreaker Member Posts: 48
From the launch game run nicely with wine on Linux but after Mod 4 came to preview it crashes at start after clicking play on launcher (with live I don't have any problems). I know Linux and Mac aren't officially supported but so far devs made some effort that Neverwinter will run with wine. Will there be some work to make it work or I must just forget about it? Crash is reported in Error Ticket ID:32952705

My configuration:
C2D T9400 (2.53 GHz)
GF 9600m GT (512 MB)
4GB RAM
Arch Linux 64bit
Wine: I've checked 1.7.10 CSMT and vanilla 1.7.22

Same crash for me with Wine.

There have been a lot of module 4 Windows crash reports involving cores and shaders. Hopefully the Wine crashes are related and will get fixed at the same time.

I've tried various options like "-d3d11Enable 0", and have had no luck even discerning the cause of the crash.

Same problem for me as well.
Game run smoothly on live server but on preview getting a crash after clicling on launcher since mod 4 came out.
    Crash reported in ticket 33720101

I like this game and i'll be very disapointed if I have to quit in mod4. Please don't let us down !

Same crash, same new ticket number.
I must admit that I'm starting to worry with 19 days remaining.

Preview server crashed the same way for me during Mod3 testing but was fine once it went live. I suspect the preview client has some additional analytics/debugging code built into it that is part of the issue.

Yes, I get the same crash here as reported by others. Tried playing around with configs to see if I could get any further but without success. From previous experience I'd expect Mod4 to work once it hits live (hopefully without further performance issues), but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

Obviously, post if you've managed to get it to work.

I don't know, truth to be told it's the first time I have this kind of crash in neverwinter ever (I've got even less crashes overall on Linux than on Windows) and I was playing around with preview from the start. I've checked all rendering options there are in playonlinux, couple of wine versions with and without performance patches, tried many configs, installed several native windows libraries and set them accordingly, nothing changed, wine debug doesn't give any meaningful information. Well, we will see, it seems other crashes also don't get attention for now.

Sad to report that the live version now crashes at launch as per the preview ones. My optimism was clearly misplaced. :(

wine-1.7.18 here. I was running old live client just fine today before Mod4 launch.

Exactly the same problem. It'll be too bad if I can't play; this is one of the only games I can play with a bunch of my friends. As in, we all have it, like it, are willing to set time aside to play. Here's to hoping, I suppose.

I can confirm this, it was working fine before the update.
In console i don't get any relevant error massages, i also tried a fresh wine prefix.

The dev's have said they know about it, but wine is not supported so we'll have to handle everything ourselves. Does anyone use codeweavers?

This is a lazy answer. They do now the changes done on mod4 and they could at least give some clues.
Wine give very few information on that crash, finding the cause just by ourselves will be painfull.

Same crash on CrossOver Mac and the Porting Team wrapper. I've not tried my PlayOnMac install but I'm assuming it won't work either. All were working before Mod 4 launched.

This problem is happening to me as well. I hit play on the launcher and a split second later the game crashses. I have tried on 2 separate installs, one with the the PlayOnLinux script using and older version (1.5.29) od wine emulating XP, and one emulating Windows7 using 1.7.13.

I also attempted to install using Virtualbox. I did a fresh install, downloaded 12GB, only to have the same error with it.

Sadly, I am stuck on an 8 year old Desktop (The only machine I have that still has windows) with a whopping 2GB ram overall and an a whopping 256MB on the vid card.

    Same here (MAC OS X 10.9.4) :
Everything worked just fine till M4. I've tried everything since : Crossover (Wine), Steam (on both PD and VM), Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion. I'm confused with these last two; aren't they supposed to run Windows "normally"? I didn't try bootcamp yet though.

Isn't that why you choose not to use Windows in the first place - so you can d**k around with stuff? jk...sort of

But seriously, they changed a TON of stuff in Mod 4, and to expect them to know what 1 of those changes may have done to an OS that they have nothing to do with is kind of... ridiculous.
Be thankful Panderus found a guy who's willing to look a bit in his spare time.

Actually I don't find it ridiculous at all.
    All Mac users can't play.
    All Linux users can't play.
A good percentage of Windows users can't play (this one is a very big problem since is the "native" os of the game).

It feels like it's more than just a small detail to ignore.
At least for a company like Perfect World.

Managed to remove some minor errors (using dbghelp, d3dx11_42, d3dx11_43), but still, video card recognition seems to be the main problem.
Doesn't matter if I specify it manually on gameprefs, it still doesn't recognize it.

We got a response in this Linux/WINE thread:

    http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?729881-After-MOD4-update-NW-crashes-on-wine-linux/page2

It looks like your hypothesis may be correct. Hopefully a fix is on the way, but not until Monday at the earliest.
