I have done Spellplague a couple of times since mod 3 launched. On each occasion, the end boss loot has been lootable directly by everyone- that is to say, no-one has to roll, and everyone gets their own "copy" of both the purple drop and shard.
Although this was a nice surprise, I can't help thinking that it wasn't intentional.
Intentional or not, it might solve the issue of 'boss-kicks' from dungeons. I'm really not all the sure why every dungeon does't work this way, to be truthful about it. If you run the dungeon, you should get a fair cut of the price. As for mob-drops, I dunno about that part of it (I'm referring to super-chest rewards).

I may be totally wrong here, but I saw another post where someone thought the delve keys were making the boss drop individual loot rather than actually unlocking the chest. Is that possibly what happened here?

I don't think so, BICBW. We were doing it during a timed DD, where the key isn't consumed anyway, though people may well have had keys in the bag. However, note that this was that the BoE boss loot was available to all players- the non-DD loot. It's odd.

It is intentional. I've run few dungeons, and each one, at least for epic, had its own loot from the final boss everyone was able to get.
Saw the same happen in a non-epic run of Dread Vault. We all got blue loot and a shard from the final boss drop.
. . . Yes, this also happened to my group that recently ran Heroic Dread Vault (outside of Delve Hour) using delve keys. We all got the boss' dropped loot but we all also got to loot the gold chest. We all figured this was a very awesome change and happily looted!

Ok, seems kind of clear now. My guess is that they are doing this so that it is easier to get this gear so that people can make the grade to do IWD? (I'll keep my own AD generation-governing conspiracy theories to myself.. hahaha.. did I type that out loud?)

Is it a bug or just changed to that way? i hope will be resolved as soon as possible. Helmets in AH **** cheap at the moment
It is obvious bug, and it also happens to whole area from which spellplague is.
If you are leveling and play with party you will notice it .. eventually
Defeating the Elder Brain or the Aboleth no longer requires a crystal to spawn that drops the appropriate rewards in a safe location.
From the Mod 3 patch notes. Looks like it's just a mistake with the removal of the casket and how they made the item drops work now. People wouldn't run SP on Preview, and if a dev went through to check, they probably just had one client on and saw the drops 'working'.
No longer playing Neverwinter.
