Mail Deletion Bug (deleting wrong mail)

While deleting an empty AH message, I received my Battlescarred Mercenary from Lord Neverember. Every message in my queue moved down.

This meant the normal "delete this message" notification for the empty message I deleted JUST as Neverember interrupted did not in fact point to an empty message. Instead a message with items attached was deleted instead. No red "warning items attached to this message!" safety notification popped up. The confirmation i entered for the empty message instead applied to the full one. My items were simply gone. On the bright side, it appears I still have the empty message in my mailbox....

Go to the Rewards Claims Agent. The mercenary will be there too. For some reason or another, it is mailed to you by Neverember and shows up in the Rewards Claims Agent as well.
Same issue like with the Sun Mask you get when your a new character. Its mailed to you and is available at the Rewards Claims Agent.

    ^This.

Whenever I roll a new character I get something like 9 or 10 emails all with attachments; "Congratulations!" Hero of the North, Guradian, Feywild, Hunter Ranger, and so on and so forth - and they all blast in at once the moment you claim your civilian garb. ALL of which are reclaimable at the Rewards agent. All except for the standard "Welcome to Neverwinter" message, which include the random-colored dye bottle and whatnot.

It's actually kind of funny, but annoying, but wonderful all at the same time. It's kind of like the Neverwinter Devs want to make abso-fekkingly-certain you cannot lose your goodies. So, though it's a (really, REALLY minor) annoyance, I'm still kind of happy it works this way.

Ahh! I see I've been somewhat less than precise with my bug report. Let me clarify. The issue is not with my new mercenary pet. As you point out, I can always reclaim it, along with the dozen or so other account unlocked pets I own, from the reward vendor. The issue is Neverwinter's message suddenly popping in my mailbox changed what message was deleted.

In the middle of my mailbox, I have a few auction house notifications. They are empty. I have already collected the attached AD from them. Above them are crafting tools mailed to myself since that's the only possible way to transfer people/tools between characters.

Normally, when deleting an empty message you press "delete", get a message asking if you want to discard this message, confirm, the selected message goes, and the message below moves up into the deleted message's position.

When deleting a message with items attached, you see a RED popup stating, "There are items attached to this message. Are you sure you want to delete." and you have the opportunity to abort.

When a new message arrives in your mailbox, every message in your queue moves down one step.

    The issue is this:

I selected an empty message for deletion. I pressed "delete", received the normal "delete this message" popup, and JUST as I pressed "yes" Lord Neverember's message arrived with my new Mercenary pet. The items in my queue IMMEDIATELY moved down one step, so the active message was no longer empty, but instead the message immediately above.

It so happens this message was loaded with 5 purple profession assets worth between 9 and 10 million AD. There was no red popup warning about attached items. The deletion confirmation received and confirmed for the empty message instead pointed to the loaded message.

Now this was clearly a case of bad timing all the way around, but it does highlight drastic errors in the mail system. Needless to say I have a ticket open.

When you try to delete a mail and click OK in the confirmation dialog, the mail that gets deleted is not necessarily the one that you selected, but the one in its position. In other words, if a new mail arrives a milisecond before you click OK, you'll actually delete the mail just above the one you wanted to. In case you're deleting the top mail in your inbox, you'll delete the just-arrived one instead.

Such timing is of course a rare occurrence but when it happens, it nearly always results in a loss of valuables since 999 out of thousand emails contain items from players or AD from AH.
So far it only cost me about 17k for a just-sold man-at-arms so no biggie, but now I'm gonna be super-paranoid whenever I need to delete a mail. I don't even want to imagine this happening when my friend decides to return a PVorp I lent them for a while so that they can farm their VT weps.

Get your friend to meet you to trade the enchant rather than entrust it to the dodgy mail system, for serious. If there is any way to avoid using the mail to transfer really valuable items, use that instead and breathe easier.

You can safeguard against deleting messages accidentally a lot of the time by keeping a blank buffer at the top of your mailbox, but I'd still avoid using it for valuable items as much as possible because accidents can still happen.

yeah I started employing the buffer mail technique right after this happened to me, but I still hope devs will look into this.. I mean you can avoid mailing items between friends if necessary but you can't stop AH from sending you AD at the least convenient time.. and the buffer mail only protects the new arrivals, you're still screwed if you're deleting a mail in the middle of your inbox

This has happened to me today as well, causing me to lose 2 greater mark of potency sent by a friend. I was mad not because it automatically selected and deleted the wrong message, but because it popped no confirmation warning for attached items.

. . . Please make sure to file a GM Ticket (not a bug report) about your lost items in the deleted mail just in case Support can retrieve or replace them. I cannot promise one way or the other though, but it cannot hurt to ask. You can file a GM Ticket either in-game (H > GM Help) or through the Support Site. Make sure you're VERY specific with things like dates and times as well as items lost, if possible.

. . . Keep in mind, Bug Reports do not get responses from GMs or Support - they go to the Developers instead. So if any of you made Bug Reports on this instead, please feel free to make a proper GM/Support Ticket. Thanks!

    Safe travels,
