What I saw from reading most threads in forums about CW I see that most of them are negative comments which I dont understand why
Do you think CWs got screwed up or buffed in the recent patch?
I decided to play my lvl 50 SS chem CW and leveled it up to 57 all purely by PvP, it seems to be alot of fun sniping from distance a change from hulk smashes routine (gwf) and CW goodness is purely depended on the team, if the team ganna distract the enemy you as CW ganna rain hell on them in matter of seconds..atleast thats how my build works (450 def lol)
I know 50-59 pvp is alot different from lvl 60 I just wish that I can stay in that bracket lol
At the end of the day, a good player will always beat a lesser player.
With that said, CW is one of the weakest class in PVP. Dies easily and the teleports are a joke in comparison to GWF's tankiness, immune to CC and regen and to permastealth TR's stealth ability.
There's not a lot of room for a happy medium in the CW experience.
-If you outgear and outplay your opponents, you absolutely destroy them.
-If your opponents work together and play well, you are at a severe disadvantage, especially if your team doesn't have your back.
I've been on both ends of the spectrum, and I've watched it happen to CWs I know to be good players on opposing teams. A lot of the OP-seeming goodness that CWs bring to team fights, like bowling everyone over with Shards, require a supporting team to make effective. What usually happens in PUG matches is that the enemy CW decides to roll out his potato while the rest of his team takes off after a GWF or a GF, leaving him to be CCed and mowed down before he can accomplish anything. By the time anyone wonders what happened to their CW, he's waiting to respawn.
CWs are extremely powerful - probably the most powerful class in pvp. BUT. The downside is that you're depending on your team. If they're doing well, a good CW will slaughter the red team. If they're not doing well, the wizard will be a kill score piñata. It's definitely not a 1 vs 1 character. If your team is allowing you to remain mostly quiet, casting your spells with horribly long animations, you'll likely be top score/top kills/top whatever, but as soon as your team gets on solo HAMSTER mode, zerging newb style in the stairs and not playing aggressively enough (= not moving forwards to push back opponents as close as your can from their home flag), the CW is doomed and useless.
Of course there are unsatisfied people who will complain they can't 1 vs 1 but it's not possible to please everyone. Right now, the CW is an ambiguous killing machine, with a huge potential but also a huge drawback, and there's no way the devs patch the huge drawbacks (like the super long animations taking forever) without toning down damage or it will just make the CW a bigger problem than the dps sentinel gwfs in pvp. Give or take. I kinda like it but sometimes it's frustrating. But in gauntlgrym, it's a real pleasure and every time it's 30 minutes of fun and joy.

Bad team? You're a punchbag. Good team and bad opponents. Steamroller. Evenly matched teams? You'd better hide carefully behind your meatshield because you can't contest a node solo. At all.

Actually, got to deny this one. Played with an hr buddy the day after the pvp update, got quite annoyed that a cw w/o tenacity can't cc jack(tried with only minimal tenacity, to see difference), but had 1 hilarious match. Our team had 2 cw's, hr, 2 gf's. Other team was 2 cw's, 2 gf's, gwf. A few times, I'd solo contest a node, while staring down 2 gf's(they were by each other whole match), and end up face tanking them, dashing/throwing cc after breaking their guard. Granted, it took forever to kill even 1 of them, but THEY never killed me once. Not happy with the changes, but they did exactly what they proposed... Made fights last longer. Every class, if they chose, can be quite tanky now. The gf and gwf will still tank the most, but a full tenacity armored player, no matter the class, can and will be a node contester now...
I hear "learn to play" all the time, but it seems to me that it should be defined as "my class is balanced, except when others beat it, then THAT class is OP"...

It's fairly obvious in this example that the other team just wasn't operating on your level. With that much CC among them, they should have been able to prevent you from killing anyone 2v1 if they were playing correctly and weren't severely undergeared even if they couldn't manage to kill you quickly.
I feel extremely powerful on my CW much of the time as well; sometimes to the point where I get people raging at me in zone chat even though I say absolutely nothing and don't act disrespectfully. However, strong, coordinated players are capable of reminding CWs exactly how conditional their success really is.

I'm not denying this. In fact, thought it was understood that both their team AND ourselves weren't premade, but pug teams(me and hr were partied, didn't know anyone else in match). Just pointing out that this tenacity change did a number on playstyles/strategies. That scenario would NOT have gone so well pre-pvp patch. But with them stunning me not so often, a cw with almost no tenacity just 2v1'ed gf's, who were flingin' bulls' charges and frontline surges left and right at me. I'm not saying that premades wouldn't be able to stomp pugs, just that a pug vs pug game can be made tougher, due to who's got more tenacity.
I hear "learn to play" all the time, but it seems to me that it should be defined as "my class is balanced, except when others beat it, then THAT class is OP"...

Seems to hit it right on the head, although I wouldn't say that CWs are the most powerful in PvP. Then again, perhaps I am not skilled or geared enough to see how they fair in very high level PvP.
From what I have seen CWs can be extremely good in PvP, but you are more dependent on good teamwork (and also team composition) than any other class. Also the skill cap for CW in PvP is really high compared to other classes.
For CW to be good as far as I seen in many many matches your team need to have atleast one tank gwf/gf and 2 would be even better with that setup a CW can be really deadly only problem would be if other team has TRs
I have played a CW for a long time as my Main PvP toon. Most pug CWs I see don't have the skill required to play the class effectively. The class is VERY good when played correctly, and it horrible when played even a little wrong. My best suggestion, get better or go play a button masher like a GWF
iliveforpvp, how do you counter threatening rush spamming GWFs and perma TRs. These are the two builds i cannot solo. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
As the OP said, I know 50-59 PVP is not the same as L 60 PVP, but with the advent of Mulhorand gear you can still run into people with 2k more gear score than you pretty easily. I have both a L 60 SS CW that I've had forever and a newer L 51 MOF CW that I actually recorded two matches with last night and I've been having a lot of fun PVP with this char.
It seems to me, more than any other class I PVP with, its definitely either wrecking house or getting rolled.
@bugbullyboy - Icy Terrain and Steal Time are helpful against TR and Repel keeps GWF away from you...for a second anyway

That's my experience as well. With a solid team, the CW does incredible damage. The fact that CW's control spells ignore ~60% of tenacity means that they can still control and their shard provides them with some of the highest burst damage for an encounter. Definitely a great class to have on your team if they're experienced.
My CW seems to be doing very well in PVP now, but I just pug and wasn't doing bad before and the sample size is pretty small. I think most of the complaints are from people who were relying on the duration of entangle to get there shard off, since I don't use shard in PVP it doesn't bother me. Any decrease in my control is more than made up for by the decrease in other peoples damage and prone duration, and since I don't have to worry about being one shotted I can stay still and spend more time casting and less time dodging for my life.
Kind of an ironic statement, but not completely.
Is your goal to be above average and be able to handily beat noobs and other average players? CW can do that.
Against the top premades, CW is a liability. You are pretty much a DC, except extremely fragile. You can provide great support and debuffs, until a permastealth TR or a GWF decides you can't live anymore. Then you have zero counters and you die.
This means that a CW can NEVER control a point. You depend on your team. If your team's GWF and permastealth TR are better than the opposing GWF and permastealth TR, then you will feel like you are providing great support to help your team through your debuffs, prones etc.
If the opposing GWF and permastealth TR are better than your team's, then you feel useless because they decide to take you out in 10 seconds and its now 5 vs 4 to their advantage.

Don't forget about good HRs though, they can perma CC you to death. I only have lvl 22 HR and take great pleasure in rooting and constricting the hell outta people - especially CWs - and I only have greens. Can't wait for my full skill setup.
And let's not forget about great GFs either. They can kill CWs quite easily as well.
Most of the times i play PvP on pugs and 80% of the times i see my team mates focus on GF or GWF while CW's nuke our ***'s down. In this case CW's can rly make a big diference.
On premades that doesnt happen much and CW's have very dificulty to stay alive even those wtih +35k HP.
I believe its always depend of the teams u play with but in overall i think CW's and ranged classes are weaker than melees, mostly in PvP match where staying in nodes matter to get points and lead ur team to victory. Although i must agree PvP is more balance now than before... at least until now

TRs and GWFs make up the majority of every PvP match I've seen.
As Persephone said, "don't forget HRs and GFs." A decent one sees you, you die. Period.
CWs are great until a decent player wants you dead. Same with TRs.
Any group who focuses on GF/GWF while there are CW/HR/TR/DC around, is going to lose. Whichever team has the most GFs or IV/Sent GWFs win.
CW are extremely good in PVP........until you meet a good perma stealth rogue or GWF.
Then you have no chance of winning.
Meh. When i can cast my 3 encounters (not counting shard), even on a 15k sent/GWF, anyone will start running around in panic mode, just becuase it does so much damage. But you kinda need to be quiet for 3s, which doesn't happen often in pvp admittedly.
In 50-59 I kill all GWFs in 2 rotations I just hope thats possible at 60...doubt tho because never seen a CW that could do it on my gwf lol
Definitely possible. One rotation is almost a death sentence for most classes but tanks (equally geared). But you better go unnoticed, because when they test people and see "oh that thing teleports" then they start going crazy unless you have good team mates able to retain some attention.
When you play against inexperienced opponents - I've seen a lot of 15k pvp ignorant people -, shard is a great terror tool, you may just cast it, hide inside it, and no one will get too close to you. That's funny, and it helps when your team sucks *** and can't help you at all.

Just wondering, what do you do to a permastealth TR killing you slowly, and when he pops out for a few milliseconds, is dodging/immune to CC

P.S. Any buffs would make us gods in top end pvp
1- spec with A LOT of HP and regen
2- get epic raven skull and Sharandar boon for a lot of dodges.
3- kite, shard rotation
4- repeat
Best idea, by far, don't get into that situation in the first place. 90% of playing a CW is choosing where to be, when.
Hope this helps brother
