I expected account dodges but not character dodges.
You would prefer account penalties?
This would hurt the players that actually invested their money to have 1 account with 10 toons, whereas the other players that did not buy account upgrades and have 5 accounts with 2 toons each would not suffer.
I don't get that logic ... sorry.

makes sense, but how to control people so they only have 1 account.
maybe the logging out and relog into the game again with a different account isn`t worth the effort the time it takes and people just stay, do nothing and sit out the match so it gets over soon.
You made it per character and not per account, so I just leave when I like and queue up a different character.:(
The fact that you leave and queue up on a different character is what is wrong with this playerbase. It disgusts me. This playerbase is toxic, not with standard griefers and trolls but with poor attitudes that can't stand losing. I honestly don't know if this game can survive it's players.

This is prevalent in any MMO right now. If they do not leave they sit there and complain about how everyone other then them is doing sooo horrible. I have seen this in at least four other MMO's. It is all the same. Usually the person complaining is the cause of the loss.
So maybe this is what is killing all MMO's.

I would prefer people to never leave matches.
And before you try there is absolutely no justification for leaving a match. Ever.
A very strict opinion. The term "packet loss" means something to you?
Why is someone allowed to leave a dungeon but not a PvP event?
Afaik a ToS run can be done in 15 minutes, same time as a PvP match. Do you vote to crucify dungeon leavers as well?

So basically there are certain justifications for leaving a match? Such that they are even catered for in the new penalty system? Not "absolutely no justification for leaving a match. Ever."?
Cool.
Only once two people have griefed the team and left. Since those two people have no good reason to leave, there was no good reason to start the process, and no good reason for anyone to leave since for subsequent actions to have been good the first would have to be as well.
There is a limit to what you can achieve with penalties alone. People will balance 15 minutes of being roflstomped for no reward whatsoever against 30 minutes of grinding boons on multiple characters while the penalty times out and make a choice. So even account-wide penalties will not eliminate leavers completely.
Campers actually annoy me more than leavers. They have the exact same effect on the quality of the match and still get to pick up any rewards that might accumulate through the efforts of others.
The biggest impact on leavers will be if the ELO system produces well-balanced matches. I do PvP as much for enjoyment and a change of pace from grinding as for the rewards, so win or lose if the match is fun I won't be leaving.

If you disconnect log back in. That bug should've been resolved as well.
There is no justification to right-click your name and say I don't care about the rest of the party, I am out of here.
Disconnecting is a completely separate matter from leaving.
And punishments for people who are just sitting around the camp fire instead of fighting because they want to leave is the next thing that I will be poking the Devs to address. But even then those people should be kicked down to the bottom of the Elo system over time.
Which might be exactly the place where they want to go.
On the bttom of the Elo ladder they can, with their 16k PvE gear, welcome the fresh level 60 5.7k players and annihilate them into oblivion. Good plan! I like that!

Except they'll move up very quickly once they've done that once or twice. To game an Elo system takes quite a lot of effort and the sort of people that enjoy griefing are usually not the sort of people willing to put that effort in. Give the new system time to bed in.

If after playing 14 minutes you disco for 1 minute and the match ends during this minute you not only got no glory but you are sitting in penalty for that time as well, that's what I mean. You are hitting an innocent there.
Leaving is any action, be it voluntarily or not, that removes you as a resource from the team. Not only the "Leave party" button.

Collateral damage. There are many analogies that could be made, each that get a little farther afield philosophically, but what it comes down to is that you hit the innocent for the greater good.

Real life happens. Last time I discoed in PvP was because my son decided it was time to be born. So get down from you high horse, sir. Granted, usually I disco due to someone at the door, phone calls and other less dramatic things, but if you think I should keep playing and not open the door for my friends I do not think we can reach any agreement in this discussion...
To get rid of people who disco for faster farming the solution is simple: Stop giving rewards for PvP. Players who have fun playing PvP will play PvP regardless of rewards. Problem solved.

Take the message leavers: if you aren't going to play your hardest come hell or high-water for the whole match, DO NOT QUEUE. You are hurting 9 other people when you do this, and you are a donkey for being so thoughtless.
Also, your brain is a learning machine. Even in unfair conditions, or especially, you will learn to play better by pushing your boundries and getting out of your comfort zone. All giving up does is make you not get better.

The counter argument to that is, maybe you should only queue when you're reasonably certain of being able to complete a match. Of course Real Life has to take precedent and there are occasions when leaving is unavoidable, but in those situations, a cooldown leaver penalty isn't going to affect you is it? I don't see the problem here.

Insulting others is not a nice gesture as such. And your assumption, that "all 9 other people" are die hard PvP players seems to be rather high estimated, otherwise it could never ever have happened that there were, according to legend, 1 vs 5 matches.

This would be a valid argument if skill were the dominant factor, whereas in reality it's gear. There is zero to be learned from being instagibbed by players with twice your GS.
However, the new matchmaking system should alleviate this issue over time.

Sometimes you're going to have a bad match.
Everybody else shouldn't be punished for what boils down to your attitude.

My comment was a reply to the repeated message that there is NO justification for leaving a match. That is just stupid, and very easy to prove wrong, as my example illustrated.
In many of these cases a leaver penalty will not have any negative effect on the person leaving, nor will it deter said person from leaving, as you point out. Other times however, it can. For example, if you have a 10 min incoming phone call, and later want to join another match. You are now blocked from playing, and there is no way you could have predicted that you would have that incoming phone call when you did, unless you can foretell the future. I would probably just switch to another game at point.

Disagree 100% I'm married with Children real life calls sometimes you got to go. If my toddler gets into something sorry I'm out of the match just the way it is (on a side note I rarely play PvP as result well that and I don't like it but still my statement stands)
There is the carrot and then there is the stick. I don't understand why they refuse to go with the carrot approach. Let folks get more glory than they used to for losing, then people will stick it out.
The way it is now if you are on a losing team and getting annihilated, it's just like 5 people holding a kid down taking turns giving him a wedgie. Why would you expect anyone to just stand there and WANT to be abused?

This too. Is all I have to say.
Leavers are the shameful. Period.

Well, lowering the glory for losing certainly isn't going to make people want to stay more than they did before this patch.
