The new Damaran Rapiers from Call to Arms: Storming the Keep are poorly distinguished. I'm not sure this constitutes a bug, but it seems like they should have distinct names and more informative tooltips. They have different icons, and damage ranges, but little to help the purchaser choose.

I believe you are thinking too deep into the 'choices' and making it more complicated than it really is.
The items are meant to be a transmute item. You can completely ignore any stats on them because they are not meant to be used as a weapon but merely as an appearance item.
Each class only has one appearance set consisting of a mainhand or a mainhand and an offhand depending on the visibility of the offhands. For instance a GWF only has one option (2H Axe) while a Hunter Ranger has two options (Bow and Axes).
So when you hover over the item it should clearly say what class it is for, the rapiers are only for Trickster Rogues, and clearly say this item is meant to be a transmutation item and point out how the stats are bad intentionally.
Furthermore you can see a preview of all of the items at the CtA vendor. The rapier is the weapon with the hand guard. If you know that the rest should be self explanatory.

Would be nice if Rogues actually had 2 different weapons in cases like these, a main hand and a different looking off handing. So like in this case a rapier and a main gauche that was styled to matched. I can understand while it won't happen, but a guy can still dream.
As it is it is a bit pointless to have 2 transmutation weapons for the same class that look exactly the same and will only lead to confusion for some people like in the case of this thread.

The easy answer to that is options.
You want a different offhand than mainhand. I personally dislike that. Vehemently.
I prefer my main hand and my offhand to match unless I have a shorter offhand than a mainhand.
For instance a shortsword and a dagger or a longsword and a shortsword.
With this system if you want to have a different offhand you can.
If you want to have a matching mainhand you can.
I am truly surprised anybody could state having the same weapon appearance for both the offhand and the mainhand is 'pointless' as, even though every person is different, due to human nature symmetrical matching weapons is preferred by the majority of people.

And if they had a TR transmutation weapon for the off hand that was different from the main hand, you can still make them both the same.
As it is, having 2 items that do the exact same function (make TR weapons use that particular style) is pointless since the same thing could be accomplished by having 1 item in the vendor. It is not like 1 transmute weapon only works for TR main hand and one only works for off hand. They both work on all TR weapons and there is no difference in their looks.
So what I am asking for is more options...

You get options just not all at once. You could, for instance, use the rapier transmutation for your main hand, and use another transmutation from yet another CTA event to transmute your off hand into another.

I think the only problem I see here is that you can't actually tell which one's the main hand and which one's the offhand due to the same name and nothing in the description giving more details.
This actually is significant as (outside of transmutation) you cannot actually equip the Damaran offhand in the main hand slot.

I don't think you'd want to. Transmute items don't exactly bring the damage.
What bugs me about the two different rogue items is they say it allows you to customize which way the blades face when you're holding them, but good luck guessing which one faces the correct way for the look you want.

It doesn't allow you to customize which way the blades are facing. If it is in the main hand, the rogue weapon will face forward. If it is in the off hand it will face backwards. That is the way TRs hold their weapons and what the animations are designed around.

So even better, the only difference is the inventory icon. Which just seems silly.
You're right. They might as well just have one item if it makes no difference which hand uses it.

Mismatching in general is always what bugged me in the artistic changes between 2.0 and 3.0 DnD back in the day. I personally disliked having say, a spiked shoulder pad and a smooth shoulder pad or an armoured gauntlet on one had and a fingerless glove on the other. Unless we are in the Capital Wasteland and then the design is fine as it seems to be an expected stylistic choice for post-apocalyptic environs.
I also try to keep them the same or at least keep ascetic designs that match. My preference is always blades over axes over blunt weapons.
The Turmian dagger and the winter event dagger are the same way. Two transmutation items where only 1 is needed.
Two...for half the price each.
Any class which needs to transmute both the mainhand and the offhand have two transmutes for half the price.
So the daggers cost 150, the Greataxe costs 300.
You need to purchase two because it gives you the option to mismatch.
If one did both you would lose the option to mismatch and the price would be doubled.
I really don't see any real reason to dislike the system as it is.

I agree with ambisinisterr on this one - on my TR, I have a Midsummer dagger in my primary, and a Winter dagger in my offhand. Not having a choice would kinda stink. The HR, since their daggers are only 1 item, don't have a choice... which some may like.

I'm not argueing against the system that exists currently other than that fact that having 2 items that do the exact same function is pointless when the vendor could easily just sell 1 item. This is at the same price currently. If one of the rapiers at vendors was to be removed it would have no effect on rogues because they can still buy 2 of the rapier that is left, which would look exactly the same as the that would be removed.

Hmmm, that is new.
Strange they chose to change it. Looks like they just wanted to not have a blank spot in the shop.

Probably, as there was no indication on either as to which was for the main or off hand. What I fee is more of a bug though is the length of the rapier's blade, as when shown in the small video like when asking the vendor questions, you see a full sized rapier, where as the ones you buy have a lot shorter blade

They might have done it that way to avoid confusion. A HR only needs one skin to cover 2 blades, but a TR needs one for each. If a new TR saw only one blade skin, they may think it covers both, when it doesn't.
