Always liked rust monsters since AD&D first came out, so
I have to get one.
Question is, do I buy around 40 keys while they're 15% off, and
pray for the best... Or should I wait for people who don't like the monsters
to dump a lot of them on the Exchange and convert my Zen to AD?
I have 3600 Zen.
Also, if anyone knows the level/stats/companion bonus I'd be grateful.
(Mostly so I have an idea of what they'll cost in AD.)
Thanks!
Did you really think anyone could steal the power of the god of thieves?

40 keys might not get you the desired drop, and depending what else is in the boxes, might be a net loss. Assuming an equivalent rarity and price to the pseudodragon and aranea, your Zen converted to AD should be sufficient to buy one outright (unless the exchange rate tanks for unforeseen reasons).
I've gotten the impression that companion drop rates in lockboxes post-Nightmare have been roughly equivalent to mount drops (judging by in-game admin spam and number of active auctions). Phoeras were and are much more common, even taking into account that people who open lockboxes in bulk for profit favour the Nightmare boxes. You used to be able to get a phoera for 60-80k, but later lockbox companions are not infrequently seen only in the 1m+ range.
If you want a lockbox mount or companion, you are invariably better off saving up so you can purchase it directly unless you're really ok with taking your chances with the RNG... meaning you're also ok with NOT getting it.

yeah i stupidly spent 70 keys trying for owlbear mount got nothing heh no dragon either, buying diamonds is the way to go if you 100% want something, which i guess is what pwe wants.

i think i used arround 80 keys and didnt get any mount/companion or a higher enchant then rank 5...... just had luck if u can consider it luck when u open arround 80 boxes for a lesser tenebrous enchant that doesnt realy worth much
Most folks agree, the odds of the pet or mount are about 1 to 3%
40 keys is about 20 keys more then you need to spend to be upset with yourself for not winning anything of value beyond a few boxes of trade bars.

Thank you for the stats and the advice. Definitely going to save up the AD and
wait a bit! Wait's gunna kill me.
Can I assume by the wording that Hyper-corrosion reduces a foes defense (or armor?)
rating by 8%, and that all attack debuffs are permanent and and cumulative?
I know only the programmer knows atm, but given your past experience with
interpreting descriptions, what would be your best guess?
It's okay if you want to wait til the monster gets tested out by players.
Just curious if the monster is as good as I think it is.

I didn't buy diamonds and I didn't buy keys to get a pseudodragon. I saved up my earnings and stalked the AH until I found one at a price I could live with.

actually I got a question for the rust monster, the 1st skill says it would be 5% damage debuff and stack up 3 times, that would be 15%, corrosive touch has another 5%, so that's 20% dmg increase?

15% is a reduction on the damage the enemy deals to you or others
5% is an increase on the damage the enemy takes from you and others

(/tongue in cheek) Personally I think all those brown "***** has won an Owlbear/Pseusodragon/*** are mostly fake, just spam done by PWE to make you buy more keys! I swear I've opened 100's of lockboxes and the only "Purple" item I've received (and they even try to make it sound really exciting) is one of those "Elven Lockboxes" that usually contain 2 x lvl 5 enchants!
I did get a carpton of 'Bars' though, so I bought a Nightmare mount with them and sold it on the AH for about half a mil AD

Irrelevant, OP said he has/had zen and wanted to know if keys or diamonds was the best option to get what he wanted

If you look at the AH, you can see the mounts and companions posted by the people who've just won them. What you don't know is whether they're opening in bulk, which they likely are. I already see one seller with multiple Rusted Iron epics posted. I saw another admin announcement about the new mount won by somebody that I know opens tons of boxes because they're rich from dungeon runs and can afford it.
I just looked up this thread to tell the OP that people are going crazy with the boxes and the undercutting, and to keep an eye on the rust monsters to buy when they reach an agreeable price.
