wouldnt mind abit of xp from running it, bout 10-12 runs on 3 chars sofar no skin which is what i wanted, might do a couple more, but its not really that much fun outside of the skirmish hour for diamonds.
At the moment, the "randomness" of the Call-To-Arms reward system seems to be frustrating players. This is gathered from limited feedback from /zone chat, guild mates, and personal experience.
The following are likely the main contributing factors to that frustration:
- CTA events are only available during a short time-frame. Being busy during this time-frame means you'll likely lose out on the rare bind-on-pickup rewards.
- For those who lack friends/guild or the patience to form a group from the /lfg chat and choose to queue up for less hassle may be teamed up with lower levels that contribute less to the fight due to the lack of certain class spells/powers. (Try teaming up with a level 16 lone-cleric while you're level 60).
- Natural human emotions of envy/jealousy towards other lucky players flaunting their rewards only after a couple of runs as compared to your 100th run of nothingness.
Now, I understand the rare rewards are vanity/cosmetic ones (weapon skins, mounts). Aside from the companions and the enchantments, none of the rare rewards will give one player an advantage over another, nor do they add anything to the game experience aside from aesthetics. However, the importance of attaining these rare rewards MAY change with the new module introducing the "Collection system" where a player is given collection points for items they have collected, and those points may be used in other various ways. Although I'd like to point out that this system is still in the preview shard and subject to change.
Also, these rare rewards are desired by completionists or collectors that seek out every item. While I agree that rewards are what they are, something given for gratification or services performed and should be something that a player has to work to attain, at the moment there are unfortunate players getting absolutely no rewards for all the time invested in these events.
Suggestion to address the earlier mentioned factors: Have the Call-To-Arms chest give out a generic CTA token instead of random drops.
How it may work:
- CTA chest changed to rewarding a random enchantment rank + event specific dye + CTA token.
- This generic CTA token can be used to purchase CTA rewards across multiple CTA events.
- Each CTA event already has an NPC in town, should be easy to add in vendor functionality to it.
- The vendor NPC for each event only appears when a specific CTA is running (Pit fight CTA event = only Pit fight NPC vendor, and no vendors of other CTA events)
- The number of tokens required for each rare reward should match the current random drop rate. EG: 0.1% to get a mount = 1000 tokens.
Having a generic CTA token has a couple of advantages. Firstly, if you miss out on a current CTA event due to real life commitments, you can still acquire the rewards if you have any left over from a previous CTA event. Secondly, having one generic CTA token takes less space in the inventory as opposed to having one different CTA token for every specific CTA event (EG: Orc assault CTA giving one type of token, while the Pit fight CTA giving out another type will probably lead to having many unnecessary token types in the inventory).
With such a token based system, players enjoy 2 benefits: a simple way to track their own progress towards a reward (EG: got 350 tokens, only 650 more runs to go for that companion!), and guaranteed rewards for the time invested. Lastly, take note that CTA events are time-limited, and differ as compared to dungeon chests, boss drops, and opening lock-boxes, which are available for access all the time, and thus should have a different reward system.
Thank you for reading, I hope you consider and support this suggestion.
I disagree with all this anger when it comes to this event. I like random. I like random a lot. I got my mount early in my runs for the TR, while I can't get it on my CW. While I got the CW skin fairly soon and can't get my TR a skin. I want them, I want that skin at least very badly.
I think the problem with communities in general is they don't seem to understand that the vocal minority isn't the only minority. I'm happy with this event, very much so, yet I don't make a post about it. Yet everyone who is displeased is trying to change a system that is already good.
As for tokens, I'd hate that idea. "leftover tokens" can be used in a future event? Hell no, participate in the event. Time constraints for a week long event? That's a shame, maybe you should prioritize your life and not play an MMORPG at all if you can't hop on and get some game time in.
Events shouldn't reward everyone with the most rare item you can get at the event as a guarantee, that ruins the point. You should be given something semi-unique for participating and have a CHANCE at getting something super-rare.
I don't understand, would you apply this logic to a dungeon? Instead of drops, let them drop tokens and then you can just BUY the best gear once you have enough tokens? I doubt it.

You may not have played other MMO's if you think this system is not used for dungeons.

I 100% agree with turning it into a mark based system. So far on my TR I have run it 35 times, no weapon no mount (the mount is all I care about). this is a ridiculous amount of time to have to spend trying to get 1 item! Since its only a limited time I have had no time to do anything else but run the CTA for the mount.
I say turn it to a mark system - 1 mark for participation, 1 extra mark if you get any of the top board positions (only count once even if top of multiple boards).
Make the weapons 10 marks and the pet/mount 25 to 30 marks.
I have seen people who are getting the wolf in 1 run and then they don't participate for the rest of the event time because they don't need to, how is that fair to those of us running it 35+ times? At least with a mark system everyone would have to put in a few runs to get what they want!
I don't understand, would you apply this logic to a dungeon? Instead of drops, let them drop tokens and then you can just BUY the best gear once you have enough tokens? I doubt it.

Eh, don't really care much. Its a forum, everyone posts their ideas. Its pretty much known that forumer goers as a whole are a minority in the first place. And they are vocal by default. With being forum goers and all. As for RNG, its hated across many games. And many games use a token system for those cursed with bad luck. In everything from dungeon/raid drops to seasonal events. Personally I'd rather they just keep track of how many times we run it and increase the odds of getting the mount each time. To me a token system is not ideal, but its better than what we have now.

I disagree. Effort should be rewarded as well. Not everything should be left to 'CHANCE'. If someone does a hundred runs trying to get this mount, then I think they deserve it. Just as much, if not more, than the guy that got his on this third try. RNG shouldn't be the only determining factor.

While I'm not arguing for or against a token system (and at this point it's too late for it to be implemented for this event anway) something definitely needs to be done.... The hi-lighted portion of your post pretty much works to your disfavor if you're going to debate it either way. Sure some people get lucky, which you obviously have yourself, but the majority won't. You got your rewards early on through no real outstanding effort on your part, just luck, so you're not feeling the angst.
For those that have run the event over a 100+ times and still going without reward, it's turned into an incredibly stupid grind. An event should end on a positive note. If only a minority receives the rewards after the event is over, then the majority of the player-base isn't going to look forward to the next event. Especially when a long drawn out monotonous grind is the only method to participate.
Events should reward those who actively participate. Not just those who get lucky. If participation ends with no reward to a majority of the players... good luck generating excitement over the next event.

Both the RNG and a token-based system have their merits. The problem I have is when people who get lucky and have the RNG end up in their favor try to pass it off as "earning" said drop...

Somewhat agree, maybe a small increase of odds the more you play it. It's also very known that if people are satisfied they tend to keep their mouths shut, it's just the way of the world.

Way to nitpick, did I get the skin? Since the event started the spare time I have, I've been trying to get that rogue skin; did you not deduce that from my post? If you did, way to try to devalue my post. Good for me, I got the CW skin that I didn't want, or a wolf mount I wasn't looking for. Yeah, I can assure you I'm in a ton of runs as well with a buddy, he's just joining along for the enchantments like a nice guy, but I'm still going for that skin. I'm pretty confident if you understood my post, none of it works in my "disfavor".
As for those saying "a token based system for dungeons is how some mmo's work" - good for them, that's not why I'm here, and that's not why others are here I'm sure. That's a system I've stayed away from pretty easily because it's not as common as you are trying to make it seem.
All I'm saying is, I've had HAMSTER luck. I'm still running for my Rogue, even right now, probably will for the next 6~ hours. It happens, not everyone should get everything.

A BOP green mount you would have to pay $50 to upgrade to 110% at current diamond/zen value, dealing with RNG for whatever you get (hello, 100 dye packs of uselessness), what do you seriously expect from an event anymore? You can't expect the game to "give" you anything, because give doesn't make a profit.
I ran the last CTA 100 times before I got the ghost pet, was totally annoyed by then. i've done 10 runs of the new one and am already feeling that 100-run angst. Don't know if i'll try that hard this time, just for a BOP mount I'll never use or upgrade.
Other than building my ardent coin collection and doing leadership tasks for diamonds, i don't find i'm playing very much due to it all being so common and grindy. Maybe Shadowmantle will breathe some more life into the game, maybe not.

Well yeah systems like that are common , infact we have such a system in this game with Manticore , Unicorn and Drake seals that drop in dungeons and can be used to purchase epic gears
Totally agree that we need a new system , 98 runs till I got my mount and believe me by that point the event was simply no longer fun in any way .

Common you say, list some MMO's that have removed the best possible item drops from dungeons and replaced them with a token system where you can buy the best items for the tokens you get in those dungeons. If you do manage to find any, I'll easily double or triple the list with more successful MMO's.
As for "we have that system in this game" - are you even in the same thread? In no way can you buy the BEST equipment with Manticore, Unicorn and Drake seals. In no way.
As I stated in the post that was removed for no reason. The devs need to utilize one of the basic elements in programming "the counter". To apply this to CTA or any Event is simple. You have a base percentage to get an "epic" drop. You run it and don't get it, its now percentage Plus 1. Each time you run it without an epic drop, add 1. Now epic doesn't necessarily mean a mount, it could be any item that "PWE" deems as "epic". What this does is at least give you the opportunity to get something decent for effort put in. Check the zone chat in PE, folks are not too happy. I completely understand why. I mean the mount is not a deal breaker by any means, nor is it game breaking. I would think the events are to temporarily increase population, get folks talking and excited. The dye's are nice so I we have to give them credit for that. You just see folks that run it time and time again with no blues dropping (Runes) and no mount.

We aren't talking about ancient gear, we are talking about a limited time event that takes some players days to accomplish what lucky people are able to do in less than half the time. choosing to purchase a dye pack with a token is a lot better in my opinion than being stuck with 80+ that you get trying to get one mount/pet.
I know, the only people that won't benefit from this are the ones who get the pet right away. if it was fair to everyone, that would be horrible.
Oh, and there are seals to get armor equivalent to end-game armor, so if that's what you mean, yes, it's there.
I dont get it.Players who dont get the mount or the companion every time we have a new event will make a thread to tell us that rng system is not fair?I got the wolf with my TR in the 5th run i think but i have no luck at all with my DC(i dont even remember how many times i have done this cta).So what? Its just a game.

After 90 runs, here are my final thoughts on the CTA.
With the low droprate of the mount and it being BoP (so I couldn't buy it off someone instead of having to spend the majority of my game time this weekend on it), this event turned a fun skirmish until a mindless grind that I never want to see it again. After some fun events, this is the second event in a row that has been a negative experience for me. I hope this isn't going to be a trend going forward.
This skirmish also showed one of the flaws of companions, which is that companions hit with AoEs can trigger effects on enemies. In this case, the healing of several of the enemies including the final boss and second boss. Since there is no way to move companions out of the way for these attacks they shouldn't trigger these effects.
Lazy people, you blame the game for your rotten luck.
What speak against a additionally token/mark system? That avoid frustrating run after run only to be dependent on a lucky drop. They make the skeleton from liar charms dependent. That was a hard grind, but you see how close you are to it instead of hopping that it drop in your run.
I got one mount of needed 2. But it's really frustrating to run an event with only hope of dropluck. Combining drop + tokensystem would avoid useless participation.
I disagree with all this anger when it comes to this event. I like random. I like random a lot. I got my mount early in my runs for the TR, while I can't get it on my CW. While I got the CW skin fairly soon and can't get my TR a skin. I want them, I want that skin at least very badly.

You don't have a problem with it because you actually got a mount and weapon skin, while the rest of us, after over 100 runs, haven't gotten anything of the sort... grinding nearly 20 hours now to get something we really want, but to no avail. You don't know what that feels like because you actually got what you want, and in a relatively quick amount of time indicated in your nonsensical post. You haven't felt the disappointment, pain, and frustration because you aren't the one who is affected.
Please, think about what you are spewing before you actually post next time. Your logic is biased, half-baked, and it is dumb.

I don't see that companions get hurt from the group lifesteal heal. So what lifesteal power you mean?
But i have to agree with you. A nice event turned into a timesink event for getting the mount + skin, but without the first.

I saw it both from the Battle Wraith/Undead Boss's AoE cone attack and the Werewolf Fighter/Final boss's bite attack. Usually with the man-at-arms of some random pug, though occasionally my healer companion (mainly with the second boss). I move out of the way as soon as the animation starts and there were no players in the area of effect. The boss would get healed from the attack.

The Werewolf Fighter gain Life without any hitting. So it doesn't matter if they can do damage to nearby enemies. The undead Boss have 2 AoEs. The one is a lifestealer direct hit and the other soak up HP only from you. But his immunity at the circle lifesteal can be interrupted... The attacks don't heal nearby allies, so this doesn't matter for me. Only the bit idiocy of companion standing is... narrr i placed to gain CA, but she move so i don't get it... stand in CA and she move again... that's nearly with all companions that this happen. -.-***

What was your first negative one?
The werewolf fighters (and the final boss) only healed when he hit people with his bite attack. When I was able to fight the boss along without others showing up, I was able to avoid it and he wouldn't be healed until others started to show up and wouldn't move out of the way. Multiple people and companions in the area of effect for the bite would increase the amount he healed.
And for the undead boss and the battle wraiths I said the cone attack, as opposed to the PBAoE circle (which the battle wraiths don't have anyway). Again, I watched how it interacted in combat. If anyone was in the cone when the attack went off, the boss (or battle wraith) would be healed. The same was true if only companions were in the area of effect for the cone.
And I have no clue what you are talking about in that last line there....
If they were to ban the word 'Shadow' from names, 90% of the guilds in Neverwinter would have to come up with something new.

In no way.
I know, the only people that won't benefit from this are the ones who get the pet right away. if it was fair to everyone, that would be horrible.
Oh, and there are seals to get armor equivalent to end-game armor, so if that's what you mean, yes, it's there.
The drop rate is simply too low.
There needs to be an end in sight, for it to be rewarding enough to do 400 runs.
I will gladly trade in 150 Gray Wolf Tribe Dye Packs and 30 Cruel Enchantment, Rank 5s for a mount if at all possible with a vendor.
Fixed. Now it's correct.
100 runs in 20hrs. you are one lazy ***, LOL.
Why lazy? Other do idiot sport things instead of such a thing. The world is more as sport fanaticism, beer and s**.
"D*mn wizards," said Morik the Rogue.
