Hello
After fresh "Fortress" update on Preview I encountered minor problem: game won't launch, it just closes launcher GameClient.exe stays active in process tab in task manager (though it uses ~5MB and that number neither grows or descends)..
Tried verifying many times, safe mode, windowed mode, etc. but it doesn't cooperate .
PS gonna remove all files from playtest folder and see if that works
edit: removing files and redownloading didn't work
edit2: verifyied files after redownload also didn't work
edit3: restarted PC, now GameClient.exe uses 44MB. Still not working
edit4: out of ideas... after reinstalling everything that has Neverwinter in name I think it may be in fact OS problem (same as dheffernan's, XP)
I'm also using Windows XP and having the same issues. Can't launch the Preview Client. I'm hoping there's a possible workaround for this, or better if there's a resolution.
I have:
Windows XP 32bit SP 3
3 GB RAM
Intel Quad Core 4*2,4 GHz
NVidia GeForce 9600 GT driververison 6.14.13.1422
AV: Avast Antivirus(turning it off/create exceptions for NW don't help)
as OS and not more than 5MB/44MB RAM usage for the GameClient.
ok since nightsgrace has this problem on win7 it may not be OS problem and we might resolve this so I would like to see specs, programs running in the background, AV, graph drivers version... anything that can be useful.
My specs:
E8400 2x3GHz
2GB RAM
9800GT 512MB (drivers v. 331.65)
Win XP SP3
AV: Avast (turning it off doesn't help starting preview)
dude u understand it has nothing with ur or mine or others pc, its crytpics problem and they have to fix it, just wait or it will begin like: clap 2 times, turn around left 3 times, close eyes for 4 seconds and boom it works .
its not the 1st time that launcher is bugged like that .
Same thing here... can load and run live but preview just hangs after hitting the play button in the task manager...
Windows XP also
tried everything I can think of short of unistall and re-install which includes
proxy settings
on demand patching
firewall
anti-virus
forced verify
created new clean user profile and tried to run it
compatibility modes
full screen and normal modes
defraged machine
updated drivers
and more I am sure I have forgotten LOL

Its a known bug, i got a reply from support about it.
Hello,
We have checked with the developers and it appears to be a known issue that is currently under investigation. We don't have an ETA as to when it will be resolved but it is high priority for the NW devs.
Still no resolution on this eh? Anyone figure out a work around yet? As has been stated, the usual methods have been tried... Anyone hear directly from a developer on this, or have they posted anywhere that I can't find?
well I made this thread after 2 things after all:
1) Couldn't launch Preview
2) While searching for solution I found that some people had similar problems (unsolved) with live game
It seems some builds affect certain PCs for (yet) unknown reasons but:
-It may not be graph drivers (I have 331.65 while friarjon has 310.70)
-Directx also shouldn't be a reason since it would affect more ppl
-Problem affects people despite their OS
-Could be RAM malfunction on client side (highly doubtful though since live works fine)
-Game (preview) doesn't launch despite AV being on/off
-May be patcher fault (but then again redownloading doesn't help either and would affect more people)
edit: new build doesn't work either

yup can confirm a no-go. Launcher crashes on hitting Play and Gameclient.exe freezes at around 5mb.
Still doesn't work with the 289mb patch I got this morning. Really want to try out the new cleric changes before they hit the live server... I guess we'll just have to hope this doesn't happen when the patch goes live.

Guys..sory i post here but..its Preview related so..
Whats the diference Betwhen Neverwinter Preview (it seems the bugged test server that says game is lunched (but is not)
And OwlBear : works 2 enter game but server down.
I had this problem and reported it in Preview Bugs thread the morning Shadowmantle patch was released. It is a PATCH issue, not an OS issue because the Live Server lunches and plays just fine, but the Preview mode does not.
Here's how I fixed it: I rebuild my machine - FDisk the thing and reinstall Windows from scratch (which I usually do every three months or so and it was overdue). I can now get into Preview (though I haven;t tried since last night's patch.
I *know* this is not a feasible option for 99.9% of players.
The reason I'm mentioning this is: the problem, though it's technically at Cryptic's end and something specific to the Shadowmantle patch, apparently does conflict with something on the system itself. Though I don;t have a clue what or how.

got that issue since the last patch (NW.10.20131018a.9) is installed...
On th other machine (win7, auto updated) its running fine.
Check back on this thread after the maintenance - We may have another highlight for you!
Plus patch notes that do not include a fix, but maybe...
Thank you terramak, would really like to check out the changes in the new module, loving the game by the way.
