I powerleveled artificer to 20 and made my Orb a few days ago. It is worth noting that even with both epic Files you only have an 80% chance of success. It isn't guaranteed.

I still need to silly OH to drop before I can start using the new set. In retrospect I should have been more patient but I figured I would get the OH by now.

Could you elaborate on the powerleveling? I'm considering the profession slot which needs to be unlocked by three level 20 professions and wonder if leveling Leadership as one of them worth the time or not.

Isn't the ancient orb also required to craft this?

    Ancient Orb is not required.

For powerleveling Artificer I found the cheapest time to XP action and I paid to complete it with AD to get it done instantly. After way way too much time clicking and way too much AD I was able to get to level 20. It was very expensive in terms of AD. I don't know the exact number but it well over a million.

You don't have to buy anything. If your in a guild you can share your purple assets with each other.

Ouch. Total cost of the three fragments are above 2 million AD in the auction house now. Looks like I'm not going to grab my hands around that orb anytime soon...

I was lucky enough to win with a roll on the OH but now it sounds like I'm never gonna get the MH as it is totally absurd with what you have to spend.

Wait, you can actually fail on crafting that Orb? No way!

You certainly can, however you have 3 optional slots which can be filled by more tools (not just file) to bump it up. You could infact use 5 blue tools to get the job done at 100%, however, 2 purples 1 blue is most efficient to give yourself room to add more people to speed it up.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, the pieces for the orb only drop on the second boss of MC. If you really, really want that orb, just farm MC first two bosses until you get your pieces.

Malabog is also a terrific place to test out the efficacy of your spec since there are no cliffs or other shenanigans. Just straight up fomor gankin.

Are the three fragments lost if I fail on crafting the orb...?

It is a lot less of that, and more that if you want the awesomeness of the orb, then you put in the time and effort to do the artificing profession, rather then simply whip out your AD card. That's why it is BoP, its the reward for having completed the profession.

Sure it is reward ...but for cryptic purse, when you need somebody open boxes with real-currecny keys to get the weapon.

i have to say that moderator have some balls. to enter forum and say on that bop is our reword for being exp players take some guts. dont think any one is fooled by that as bop is basically zen cash machine for cryptic but i respect a moderator that actually answered this topic. im so overwhelm that this answer actually made my day. we need more moderators who confront our questions and not answer only the easy and non relevant questions like when events begin and other stuff like that.
and for the fragment i farmed mc 25 times - i saw 1-2 fragment ( maybe i missed once so i say 2) - better farm other areas and buy it.

Member of my guild went to great lengths to get all the pieces and formed the orb + offhand.

His response: "I see no difference in damage."

Did he see any difference in damage, when swapped his t2 orb on ancient one? There is the same damage increase, like t2 -> ancient.

They changed the boss drop chance? or yesterday was my lucky day? I ran MC 4 times, and got 3 fragments from second boss, I was lucky and got 1 of them, but before I did this dungeon like 20 times and only saw 1 fragment...

Not sure. The main difference between a T2 Orb and the Ancient set is the Recovery bonus, of course. I'm not against crafting the new orb, but I'm definitely going to borrow tools and farm for parts.

darthpotater its just luck , i saw some framgments very quick on my first runs , then nothing and after like 10 runs they start droping again.
my suggestion like some one said before : just farm CN sell the stuff and buy the fragment if you really want this silly orb.
for me , ill stick with my ancients and wait for new weapon tier before upgrade my weapons.

You don't get the Fomorian Orb to increase your damage. You get it because you can.

I am curious, the task has 5 asset slots (6 in total) so can you do it with 3 blue assets and 2 green assets? (104% in total), and the assets can be all the same type? (files for example) I am not experienced with crafting professions.

Yes. I believe you need at least 2 files, but then you could any Artificing tool, even grey ones, as long as the bonus = 100%

Speaking from a different point of view:

I just did my first run of Malabog today, and I was lucky enough to get the Fomorian Talisman drop from the first boss. So I am motivated to craft the Fomorian Orb to complete the set.

I don't have a true T2 set of gear, I have the Champion Mage set (Gauntylgrym PVP set). Our team wasn't able to defeat the final boss, we are all similarly geared and hence didn't have enough DPS to thwart Valindra and her life-sucking teleports.

So I see the Fomorian Orb as a way to get a T2-quality orb without first needing a full HV or SW set of gear in order to defeat the final boss in a T2.5-level dungeon like Malabog's Castle or Castle Never. I don't see it as merely some vanity project.

Because it IS a bit of a catch-22: How do you complete a T2 dungeon without T2 gear? The T2 gear drops from the final boss of a T2 dungeon.

    Just my 0.02 AD.

I don't mind that the item is BOP but tools don't drop so there is really quite a lot of that time and effort you reference as one works to find the tools necessary to have a chance at success.

Has anyone confirmed that the crafting materials drop from the second boss even if it's not DD time?

Hey man, If you need the tools / assets, let me (Desidus) know. I am currently lending mine out to Synergy from FFoZ, and dont mind letting them jump around the ship.

As once you hit 20, the profession is essentially useless.

Epic DV drops interesting t2 mainhands. Did anyone test if their better offensive stats overcome their lack of 450 stat bonus and lower base dmg?

I've only ever seen the Shadow Weaver Orb. Not much different than GG T2. Not sure they would be worth the effort. CN or MC mainhand/offhand set would be better.
