You mentioned that you need the components for the orb to appear available for crafting. What are the components you need to make the orb? Excepting of course the tools for quality, just the components.

    Thanks.

You need Mabalog's Riser, Quillion and Stone fragments.

Hey guys, I was following your thread to read on how to build the Orb... I just built mine and slotted it, and there are a couple things you should know. That starts with, the **** thing has to be bugged. Check this out...

Same build except weapon change, and watch these stat changes between my prior weapon and the Fomorian Fabled Orb:
    Former Weapon Build:
    Orb of the Champion Mage:
    GS Overall: 12,291
    GS Power: 5,749
    GS Attack Power: 9,754
Slotted: +220 Power, Plague Fire Enchantment

    Fomorian Fabled Cra... err Orb:
    GS Overall: 12,371
    GS Power: 6,108
HERE IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTED, OR MESSED UP, DEPENDING IF YOU ARE A GLASS HALF FULL OR EMPTY KIND OF PERSON:
    GS Attack: 9,739
Slotted: +220 Power, Plague Fire Enchantment

IT ACTUALLY WENT DOWN... despite the Orb of the Champion Mage being max dmg at 802, and a power rating almost 400 less than the Fomorian Fabled Orb, which also has a max dmg rating of 838, my attack rating went down 15 points.

So, of course, WTF came right out of my head, as that is just ridiculous. So, I sent a bug request, because the parts cost me about 1.8million in AD to acquire, since I don't get that lucky to roll high enough to get purple items in any darn dungeons I ever go on, and I also had to unslot my Plague Fire Enchant and my +220 power enchant costing me another 350k in AD... and of course, finally, to ensure I got 100% on the building process, I spent another 400k on a Mithral file so I would not have even 1% chance of failing while building.

Oh, did I say "Finally" in that last sentence... but wait, there is more... yet another 73k to rush the build, since I didn't want to wait until tomorrow.

So, 2.x million AD for my friggen attack rating to actually drop, despite having a weapon that has 400 power more than the last one I equipped, and has two higher ratings in the damage, since the next dmg above 802 is actually the 820.

So, yes, it reads 838, and it looks really HAMSTER, but call me EXTREMELY PISSED that my attack rating actually dropped, and my GS overall went up a measily 80 points, but seriously, 36 more dmg than the Champion Orb, and 400 more power, but I have a 15 drop in my attack rating... as I said, WTF.

So, I sent a bitc... er, Bug report. I hope they fix that, and I still cannot figure out this **** GS scoring. It is as arbitrary as the flight pattern of a fly on the wall.

    Gosh darnit, as they say.

Basically the recovery you gain as part of the set bonus does not count towards your 'attack' GS. Additionally, you lost 279 crit when switching to the new orb. So because of this, your attack GS drops. I'm guessing that 'dmg' does not calculate into your attack GS, but, I am not certain of that.

If you want to raise your attack GS higher than it was before you got this new orb, the best thing to do is take advantage of the +450 recovery you get from the set bonus and replace a +recovery enchant on another piece of gear.

That is what I am planning to do when I obtain this wpn finally. Unfortunately, in 40 runs I have yet to see the off-hand drop once. Although, I know two people who have gotten it within their first 5 runs.

Basically, the orb doesn't truly shine until you match it with the off-hand. Even then, you will likely want to replace recovery gems elsewhere, unless your recovery is lacking and you needed the +450 set bonus boost.

I'm planning on using the +450 recovery to free up enchant slots on other gear so I can get back the +crit I'll lose when using this orb.

Hope that helps you to understand why the attack GS changed the way it did. It is still a superior orb to your old one though. Especially if damage is not calculated into the attack GS number. Even if damage is factored in, it is still better, you just need to pair it with the talisman and replace the crit you lost.

I was thinking it was for the AP drop.... but I am not sure it is due to the crit, since despite the power being 400 more than the Champion Orb, my Attack Rating dropped initially to 9500, it was when I slotted the 220 power again, it raised back up to 9739.

Should I unslot the 220 power and slot a 220 crit to the weapon? My recovery will pierce the 4000 mark once I have the second item of the set, the recovery is pretty high.

I would think that 400 power more would make up for a drop of 279 crit, and of course the 129 AP??

    I appreciate the help.

So to make Orb its needed to have 20 lv artificing, 3 fragments and 2 purple profession items and there is chance that this may fail, so new main hand+offhand can be 5% better than set from castle never which requires nothing?
    WoW GJ cryptic.

    Also this :

It's more for epeen and bragging rights, nothing more. The amount of time and money you spend on getting the formorian items can easily be spent on better enchantments/upgrades. The upgrade from Ancient to Formorial is so miniscule, you can barely quantify it.

I'm an experienced player but by no means an authority on this, but, to me your recovery seems higher than necessary.

I'm currently running a Thaum build and my Recovery is 3400 and I don't plan to increase it by much when I craft the main hand. For one thing you have to consider diminishing returns and how much benefit you get for that 600 recovery versus what benefit you might gain from placing those 600 points elsewhere. Try removing some gear with recovery and see what your encounter times are if you drop some of those recovery points.

You might find you don't need that much recovery or you may find that you do and it is essential to your play style.
