Riding animations

Normally a tweak like this wouldn't bother me so much, and I love the new movement that has been implemented for when you pull on the reigns to stop the horse as you stop moving, but when running at full speed my characters hands are...just.... well, out way to far, I mean it's like they're holding onto motorcycle handle bars, just looks really strange and I dislike it, which sucks because I love riding around my on Nightmare.

Does anyone else think/feel the same?

It does look a little silly with how far out your arms go... I don't get what was so bad about the arm distance before, frankly, as I thought the riding animation looked fine. The new reign-pull is a good bit, as well, but I think it's actually up a little too high to look good.

Feels so silly to ride a horse now. :/

I am against animal cruelty. My character whips the howler. Also my cat yawns like a howler. Please fix.

From an RP perspective, whipping the howler actually makes sense. It's a monster, not a tame animal.

The new riding position is pretty strange, but one thing I noticed is that my halfling character doesn't hold his arms way out to the sides like that, which leads me to suspect it's a scaling issue.

It's hilariously bad. I'm tempted to redye my CW in red and blue and pretend she's supergirl.

It looks like... *kitten*. Quite honestly. It's less realistic than Warcraft's mounting. A pure piece of *kitten*.

Let me start by saying that I love Neverwinter. I've been playing since open beta started, and I think you've done a fantastic job on almost everything, from background vistas to customer service.

One of the things I loved immediately about this game was the animations of horse and rider. Your horses were (and still are) the best-looking mounts I've seen in any game I've played. They are well proportioned. They are a bit heavy-set, but they are carrying armored riders, so that makes sense. The movements are natural and it is truly a joy to watch the horses, both standing and running. Very nicely done! The accompanying sounds are also excellent. And I was impressed with the original riding animations because the rider moved naturally with the mount, and it looked like you were using your legs to urge the animal forward, as you would in real life. True, there was a bit of elbow-flapping going on, which you might see with an inexperienced rider trying to urge their mount, but these are adventurers, not equestrians, right? I could live with that. And when you came to a halt, you still maintained a forward lean, which would be hard on your back eventually. Most riders would straighten up or even lean back very slightly in the saddle, a more relaxed position while standing idle; plus the shift of the weight backwards discourages the horse from moving forward. But again, that was a minor issue, and I could live with it.

Unfortunately, you took something that wasn't broke and tried to fix it.

I understand that the new riding animations introduced with Fury of the Feywild are intended to be more "natural." I hate to have to say this, but the new animations that I have seen are horrible compared to the old ones. Your arms stick out and it looks like you're riding a motorcycle, not a horse. I've seen this on three mounts so far (the ones I own and ride, which include a normal riding horse, the Stormraider Clydesdale, and the new unicorn). It's less noticeable on passing riders, but when you're watching yourself ride, ugh.

Think about it. On a motorbike you can get away with holding your arms out because you have handlebars to rest your hands on, which supports the weight of your arms. On a horse, you don't have that. You want your arms close to your body and your hands low, so you have better control of the horse and less wind resistance, in that order. Plus, your arms are much more comfortable and don't get tired if they fall naturally next to your body. It takes effort to hold them out and up, and trust me, they *will* get sore after a while.

The new animations still maintain the leg movement (thankfully) but the upper body just looks awkward. There's still some movement there but it seems less fluid. I do like the pulling back of the reins as you transition from moving to standing, but I just can't deal with the arms sticking out like that. Please, when you are able, revert the animations or replace these with ones that are truly more natural. It's painful watching myself ride now.

+1 to everything you just said. My halfling CW looks okay on a horse (I guess because of different scaling for her size), but my half-elf DC looks like she's holding invisible handlebars. It just looks wrong. D:

I have a tiger mount and they changed the animation where one hand is flapping to the side almost like my character is slapping the tiger's @ss. I think it looks terrible and am not sure why the decision was made to change it. Animation looked fine before. <SIGH>

No, just no. Perfect World(the game) has motorcycles in a fantasy Medieval enviroment and that's enough for me...

Yanno, I think magic-punk motorcycles can work, but not in Forgotten Realms. Maybe not even in Eberron (though now I'm imagining the most wicked-awesome Lightning-Rail Bike ever).

Sigh. Integrity demands me say no bikes. :|

I'm playing the game on maximized window and I haven't really noticed if the horse had a reign? The shifting animation when you're riding at full speed adds a good touch, now if only it gets polished...

The horses don't have reins. That's why the handlebar position of the arms looks weird.

Didn't expect that many responses to this issue .__. Was starting to think I might be the only one who has a problem with the new riding animation, glad to see that I'm not... lol

Cryptic, please change the ridiculous riding position back to how it was, keep the other new animations for riding (pulling on the reigns to slow the horse etc.) But just tuck those arms back in for the love of.... which ever deity you follow~ .__.

Since the update, the position on my characters' arms while riding the T3 horse seems to be wider than before. It looks awkward as there are no reigns...

I think when your chr. is just sitting still on the tiger mounts it looks ok - at least there's less empty space between hands and saddle. But yeah...when actually riding, that hand-slapping motion is just hilariously bad. No offense to the artists, but it's just ... bad. It's almost to the point I don't want to ride my tiger for a while. Maybe I'll go back to my giant spider.

Edit: Also, I sorta preferred the washing-face motion of the tiger/panthers. Or to be more precise, I don't like the final yawn stretch pose, with the face high up in the air. The open mouth looks funny. :)

When a rogue sits still on an armored bear they sit upright grasping at invisible reigns. They used to hunch over and hold on to the saddle. For some reason it is only my rogue characters that have this problem.

All my characters ride around flailing their arms with invisible reigns though, it looks not good.:(

Idk what they did, but I wish they would change it back.

I'm not a fan on the new riding animations, and truly hate the needless stupid stretching groaning noise they added to Tigers. They even did that to cat companions, which is bizarre and wish I could just turn it all off and revert back to the old animations. I hate using my purchased mount or companion at this point, which btw I choose because they didn't make a lot of racket before. Really bummed and discouraged.
