Salvage a chest piece = 10k AD: less if is any other piece. To upgrade your companion to Epic from Rare is 750k?? what???

So???? Not feeling so good about this. How about you guys?

What? Cryptic making changes to push people to purchase Zen? No! It cannot be!

Anyway, a pet upgrade for 750k is lame. But guess what? It's completely unnecessary. Just don't buy it. With my silly cat I have 4500 recovery... that's about 1500 over the soft cap. So, save your AD. It's no big deal. From what I hear Malabog is easier than CN.

at least for the Ioun Stone of allure, and Cat, (not sure about any of those other useless companions) the upgrade to epic gives very little benefit. Less then a rank 5 enchantment. 750k for around 100 stat points. A total waste of AD.

Atm the salvage pricews are better than about 80% of the prices you can make on the AH *shrug*

The companion prices are high, but nobody is forcing you to upgrade.

Its not a better price you can't use the AD's you get from the salvage npc until you refine them. with a 24k refining cap all that will happen is ppl will end up with a s*** load of useless rough AD's

Part of why I wanted the salvager in the game was because he would dictate a bare minimum on items. A lot of Tier 1 pieces were selling for less than 3K AD and a lot of Tier 2 Items are selling for less than 6K.

It amazes me that, even now, I can go on the Auction House and find items being sold for less than what they will salvage for in two days. Haha!

The thing is...if you already have maxed out your armor - gotten reinforced bracers, and, say, rank 8 enchants, upgrading the stone (or cat) is cheaper than going to a rank 9 enchant. But yeah, unless you are in that situation, it is not worth it
    Hoping for improvements...

You are forgetting one aspect. Now don't quote me on this, I heard it second hand but there is going to be a timer on the salvager which if that is true is going to make the salvager worthless in my opinion. Now what I heard was that you can only salvage 1 item every 24 hours. This makes it worthless because you can pick up 5 or 6 pieces a day depending on how active you play and how you go about collecting gear you don't need such as during DDs and running full runs and getting lucky on boss drops. So on average lets say 4 pieces a day. If the salvager has this timer then you will constantly be backed up and not able to salvage your purples rendering the whole thing useless. Who wants to wait years just to catch up to their stock pile of HAMSTER epic loot for 10k? All this will end up being is a buffer before players realize that BoP items are worthless because you have to wait an entire day before you can crunch another item. The game's death throws will become louder.. mark my words..

Um, on the preview shard, you can salvage to your heart desire. There isn't a 24 hour timer there, and I haven't heard it mentioned anywhere else.

    EDIT:

In fact, here's from the FAQ about it:
If you have any level 60 purple items you don’t need you can bring them here, right click them, and select the Salvage option to destroy them and gain Rough Astral Diamonds.

That really doesn't sound like that have any plans to limit it to one item a day.

I haven't heard of any timer either but I have not extensively tested anything on the preview shard myself.

Has anybody else encountered any limit on salvaging?
Other than giving Rough Astral Diamonds and will limit players to 24K AD Refined per day, of course.

You can refine 24k ad max a day. This means to make 1 million AD through refining takes around 44 days. Only other way to get more AD than refine is by idols through Zen Keys.

No, I just salvaged twelve items over there with no problem. Gotta go re-import my character now, though. She's nekkid. :P

Indeed. I realize that. But the post I was responding to was claiming you could only salvage one purple a day. We weren't talking about refining the AD.

So what? 10k is more than they sell for on the AH anyway, and if it isn't then sell it on the AH. The price of companion upgrade is stupid, but nothing to do with how much you can salvage items for, which is an option.

You'd think, but then how many epics do most people aquire every day? 1 to 3 maybe? Which isn't likely to hit the cap. And you can send them to alts. Dry your eyes.

How they don't know is beyond me, but I'm sure there will be hordes of people who don't even know there's an update coming, then the people that do know but don't know what's in it.

Oops, I've quoted you when you asked me not to :p Don't quote me on this, but I heard you can only use the salvager if you stand on one leg and sing Scotland the Brave.

what is the cost to take a pet from green to blue though? I was hoping the cheap green ioun stones + upgrade was less than blue stone. green to blue unlocks the final gear slot on them, so one more item worth of stats...

There is no green Ioun Stone? There is a rare one for AD, a rare one for Tarmalune (sp?) trade bars and an epic one as a Foundry Reward. Am I missing one?
In any case, currently, upgrading from common to rare would cost 500K AD.

    550k for green to blue.

The stone of allure gives power, crit and recovery, while the stone of might gives power, recovery, arp and deflection. I don't know if the latter would suit any classes better, probably not.

The trade bar ioun stone pet (might) is green quality. The third gear slot is locked until upgraded so it gives you 3 offense rune slots, its base stats, and 2 pieces of gear. Upgrade would give it more innate stats & another piece of gear. Upgrade again would be foolish, of course.

Sounds pretty steep. I may not bother to upgrade it. TY for the price.

I'd say it's intended, they're for looks. I'd guess that only items with stats can be salvaged.

Well it depends on the item, obviously. But all the purples that people complained were "worthless" and unsellable anyway are now worth something.

Honestly, nobody is ever happy with anything.

Which part of "if it isn't then sell it on the AH" confused you? Also, if you want to be cute, you'd only get 8k ad for those booties.

I am very happy with the salvage but I do think that the ad prices on the companions upgrades is prohibitive and the benifits underwhelming it is not a good deal in price vs reward imo.

It's possible the price will be reduced in time, if only by 10-15% like the other recent price reductions. But you never know.

Companion upgrading looks to me like an expense to be evaluated with careful cost-benefit analysis before committing to anything.
