You now... DDO has a shop too - but I never felt its unfair.
In NWO it feels unfair.
DDO charges most of money ffrom
- xp buffs/faster leveling stuff
- comestic armors
- cosmetic pets
- 2 or so races and 2 or more classes.
Um. You're kind of missing the biggest expenditure in DDO... modules. That is, most of the core content in DDO requires a load of different payments, unlike NW, in which all play areas are free.
Campaign: The Fenwick Cycle NWS-DKR9GB7KH
Wicks and Things: NW-DI4FMZRR4 : The Fenwick merchant family has lost a caravan! Can you help?
Beggar's Hollow: NW-DR6YG4J2L : Someone, or something, has stolen away many of the Fenwicks' children! Can you find out what happened to them?
Into the Fen Wood: NW-DL89DRG7B : Enter the heart of the forest. Can you discover the secret of the Fen Wood?
worst arguement ever, all succesful F2P games offer only fashion items for cash and that's why they're still around since ages and never went bankrupt because ppl buy cosmethics
rule n 1: never affect gameplay
rule n 2: there's no rule 2
inb4 improved races with double bonus ability scores and passives
So a game like DDO where you have to buy Dungeons, or how about LOTRO where you have to buy quests. Neither of these are affecting gameplay? They have been around for a long time and have been F2P for a few years now.
Yeah but paying 30$ for big expansions with new races, tons of gear and new areas, iconic heroes and pets is quite better than paying 59$ for a mount and a race :P.
I understand they have to earn. But prices are insane.
In ddo I spend max 5$ each month. And I have everything I could want - all expansions, all races, all packs, almost every single tiny companion.
In NWO Id have to spend like 50$ a month to get everything.

Lol ages? how old are you? Just like my post points out, you don't care about cryptic, their employees, or anyone other than yourself which is why you could care less if they go bankrupt and are all unemployed as long as you get what you want for free.
Successful is a VERY subjective term. I would say neverwinter is successful, but that's my opinion, and I'm not going to force it on you and say things like "FACT." TBH the only other F2P game I've played is LoL and yes the vast majority of people pay money for skins/fashion. But you can buy champions without putting in time to unlock them right? trading money for time, the staple of F2P. Not to mention you can't even acquire skins with any amount of time, only money. This is the first F2P where everything (except for pre-order packs) are available with time alone. LoL also charges for things like name changes, rune pages, and champion packs, not ONLY fashion, and I would say LoL is one of the most successful F2P models.
Guild Master of <Enemy Team>
We are definitely dominating, and we are always about to win.

If their sales fail to produce their expected revenue, and they feel a reduction of prices will allow them to meet their target, prices will eventually go down over time. The game is still early. They are still in the process of feeling out what this particular market is willing to bear. They will use their sales data to determine that, rather than forum complaints.
You are getting a new part of the game world to explore, along with new systems to enjoy, for free, not the price many others charge. They are offering complimenting extras for those that wish that at a cost. They do have to make some money somewhere.
1. Hes comparing the pack not the module.
2. There is zero upgraded content, in other words, you will spend your days of doing the new stuff and have absolutely nothing to show for it except for some items to sell on the AH. There is no vertical gear upgrades its all side grades. All they did was add something to the game that probably should have been in it from the start. Keep pulling the covers over your face so you cant see the fact that PWE are just money hungry and would charge you to take a virtual **** if they could.

Never heard of a Class that requires you to purchase it to play it, because a class play an important role in the balancing of the game, and simply allowing only people with the money to spend to play it - Will make the game nothing but "Pay-to-Win".
Races however, as stated in previous posts. They are just a reskin of a race that will be available to all of us. And it is indeed cosmetic - perhaps the racials will vary, no sign of that yet though since the racials haven't been released for the vanilla drow, moon elves and sun elves.
Overall, it is just a reskin that will make RP:ers and other people who appreciate the fact that you can pay to fund the game development, and get something at the same time - even if it is mostly cosmetic.
And who ever mentioned Pay to play Classes or Paragon Paths, if that ever happens i am pretty sure most of the game community would leave Neverwinter - That just Isn't smart business, and i am pretty sure Cryptic Studios & PWE knows better than that.
Adding another tier of items to the end of the tread mill is just... boring and dumb. Oh, great, THIS armor is 2 gold star! Next expansion, 3 gold stars! Next expansion, I can trade in 3 gold stars for a platinum star! WOO!
Retch.
Just give us new stuff to DO. I'm more interested in going and having fun, than arbitrarily changing a few equipment numbers.

You have never heard of pay to play classes? Check out DDO I know of at least 2 classes that you have to purchase to be able to play.

1. You can't cherry pick in that way to get an accurate picture of the situation as a whole.
2. New content is new content. You can side or up all you want. That doesn't change it is so.
All for profit companies are money hungry. Stop expecting them to act like charities.
this is D&D you make up your own backstory . If my orcs want to go around telling everyone he is a rare tusked moon elf .... then that's is what he is .

It depends how well the pay classes are balanced with the free classes. If they are more powerful, they could be said to be pay to win. If they are reasonably similar in power it would be more pay for diversity.

sorry i play MMOs for character advancement, not to plateau after 1 week and do stale, copy and pasted content. If horizontal upgrades are good for you then more power to you. Have fun doing the same **** day in and day out with zero reward. You minus well go play minesweeper.

I love when people say things like this. Just because its a horizontal progression doesnt mean you cant get different gear. Look at GW2. At 80 most of what they have are side grades and not really upgrades. That doesnt mean I cant run through the newest dungeon to get new gear. And I dont see how playing an online game where I can play a character how I want equates to playing minesweeper.
Hey all, just chiming in here with some info from the Extended FAQ:
Our goal is ensure that all game content is available to all players without paying a dime. We do want to offer special, fun customization options like character races for players who have chosen to invest in a pack, but in the scope of the game mechanics these benefits are more cosmetic than mechanical, as everyone can still enjoy all the game content Fury of the Feywild offers without these perks.
You can also find the stats for the Sun and Moon Elf races there.

If you aren't happy with the game, then play something else until this game, if ever, meets your tastes. The last time I checked, there are plenty of games available that cover a wider diversity of customer wants.

Forum poster: "This is unacceptable because I don't want to have to pay for it!"
Normal person: "Why?"
Forum poster: "It's so overpriced, everything in zen shop is overpriced, omg cash grab! Greedy PWE!!!"
normal person: "So they didn't provide you with a completely free game including the ability to trade in game currency for zen so you can buy pretty much everything for no money?"
Forum poster: "Hell no I'm not putting in time to avoid paying for things! This game is so P2W anyway!"
Normal person: "Um isn't that the definition of F2P?"
Forum poster: "But I want all these new items and am certainly not paying $60 for them, are you crazy?!"
Normal person: "This game is F2P, that's the only way Cryptic gets paid and can continue paying their employees and releasing new content, not to mention the hundreds of thousands they've spent to provide you with a free game"
Forum poster: "I don't care, I want moon elves. Sun elves, new content, and everything else module 1 gives me for free is irrelevant!"
Normal person: "Looks like it's time to stop browsing the forums on the job, can't reason with anyone..."
Forum poster: "What's a job?"
So you think normal is throwing money away just because someone else wants/needs it? Time to stop browsing the forums from your mom's basement because that's not the way RL works. People expect a reasonable return for their money and time.

anyway except for name changes everything on LoL aswell as Dota is buyable in game, so i can safely say they charge ONLY fashion
you might say that it doesen't count since NWO is a MMORPG and not a MOBA, here's the first 2 oter successful mmorpgs that charge only fashion: Tera and Lineage II
DDO and LOTRO lost like 90% of the playerbase since f2p thx to their greed, now the're sitting at few hundreds playerbase
Tera and Lineage II are sitting at several thousands
you say i don't care about cryptic and his employees? how can NCsoft and other companies live with only fashion revenues?
how can riot games organize 4 days of worldwide esports per week and rent a famous wrestling/boxe arena in los angeles for his finals when the most gamebreaking thing you can pay with money is changing the color of your QWER spells? are they paying theyr employees with cookies?
edit: just noticed moon elves are almost a skin of sun elves (no big diff. in racials) , wich is weird for d&d but right for the non-p2w factor, now they 'only' need to fix that problem with mounts (stats, i don't care for riding a sabino horse as long as it does the same exatc things of an heavy inferno) and companions

So, the difference between the two is actually very minimal.
Is there any word to how different they'll be cosmetically? I.e, will they have different color palettes? Or different Tattoo's/Scars? Or will they be visually identical?
