the problem i had is the quests level cap (i m not talking about skirmish and queues), i reached lvl 49 during pirate skyhold doing dailies and suddenly characters stopped giving me quests. I know it s not over because my main already finished that. So is kind of annoying to make sure you don t level enough to finish the quests!

I would have to recommend at least 1 playtrough on D3 (if it ever goes on sale) for the story alone, but after that it gets repetitive quickly.

Token-on-topic-comment: *agree* solo is entirely feasible all the way through this game (though the boss fights can get a little hairy sometimes)

    1. How much of the content can I complete solo?
Almost all of it (minus the new GG zone thing)

    2. Is there a good queue system for instances?
    Debatable, but it's reasonable.

    3. Do parties need to be balanced ala the tank/healer/dps trinity?
Not absolutely required, but can be useful, depending on what you're running

    4. Is there large raid content where you need to spend time assembling 10, 20, however many people before you can start?
    None whatsoever

    5. Are there a lot of "unspoken rules" when pugging, like "We skip 90% of the mobs in the instance" and "We kick anyone who doesn't have a conservative playstyle"?
    No. not really.

    6. Is there an endgame gear treadmill?
No, not really, but consider that the game has only been 'released' for 2 weeks.

The quests exist, but there are no markers, so you have to talk to everyone to see if they have anything for you to do.

Also there are some quests that are only mentioned in in-game mails. Like there was one in-game mail that sent me to the sewers in protector's enclave. There was no marker on the main map, only found it by running around town talking to everyone standing near a sewer...

I don't try to dictate any player to do something they don't enjoy.

In fact I despise that some people have taken the original concept of MMO's and twisted it into "you must do things with other people." Originally the idea was to throw a bunch of people together simply so that you could find like-minded people. Those players could be the ones who love 40 man raids or people who enjoy solo/duoing content and players would happily enjoy the game the way they want to.

Bottom line is there is no reason to force group play on a player side except to dictate your playstyle on other people. Here's a secret, the only reason group mechanics became encouraged half as much as they are in MMO's is because, factually speaking, players with friends/guilds in the game are more vested in the game than solo players and are less likely to leave/quit. Certainly some players like large groups but that is not the reason why it is encouraged so much by MMO Content.

Sure people should try group content...I enjoy having at least one person with me much more than soloing...
But dictating group play (especially 5+ players) isn't something I'll ever tell Cryptic to do. You can. I won't.
And in the end Cryptic will decide. ;)

    Fantastic post!

I prefer to group with friends I know in real life. Therefore, I tend to solo a lot when my friends aren't online. I have never understood why so many mmo players have such a problem with this. "Massively Multi-player Online" simply refers to many players on the same server. It does not mean "many players forced to group".

I do understand how people who are more outgoing and extroverted might find soloing odd. But it is certainly no more odd than someone taking the position of: "What do you mean you don't wanna play with me??? Well, I'm gonna contact the makers of this game and have them make you play with me! SO THERE!"

Edit: Before I get myself in trouble here...chrono0812, that last bit was not directed at you. I would not characterize your earlier post as having that kind of attitude. But it is an attitude I have encountered over and over again during my many years of playing MMOs.

I can't even count how many times I've been told that I should not be playing MMOs, as if it were up to someone else to determine what I should or should not be playing. It just gets intensely frustrating sometimes. So when I saw ambisinisterr's post, I had to respond. I just didn't want you to think I was getting snarky with you. Apologies if I came off that way.

EDIT #2 (For relevance to the OP): OP, I have a Control Wizard who is, I think, 43 now, and I have found the solo leveling experience in this game to be really enjoyable. Zone chat can be a bit hairy sometimes (but I just bring popcorn and watch the show), but out in the world I find other players to be mostly respectful and friendly towards solo players. Often someone will jump in to help out if a solo player is having trouble with a mob, or a cleric will toss a heal at you as they run by.

I hope you find it enjoyable as well. :-)
