I think there should be optional foundry content in the Zen store. Like special tilesets, i.e. Underdark w/ Drows, Myconnids, and Dwemer npcs/structures/placeables. That can ONLY be played by those whom also have that Zen Foundry Pack unlocked. Or make it playable by all, thus giving certain Authors better tilesets and an avenue to making more AD in tips from having the rare-er Foundry maps to play.
FYI. I am saying all of this because the Foundry receives no attention from Cryptic because PWE makes no money off of the Foundry and forces Cryptic to dev elsewhere, like new costume packs, pets and companions. If we have Foundry content in the Zen store, then money can actually be made from the Foundry and we might get our time of day from Developement and maybe our own customer service representative for the Foundry. Because as it stands, they clearly state there is NO SUPPORT for Foundry related issues with Customer Service.
This game is a business first and foremost. The Foundry needs to get itself into the business model and make profits.
I'd be the first to pay if they'd give us ALL the dragons in each Draconomicon, the Demonomicon, and the Monster Manuals, for the same price as those books. If it's going to be forty bucks for one boss, or some HAMSTER like that, they can forget it.
Foundry content in the Zen-store? Are you all out of your minds... We shouldn't have to pay Cryptic/PW to make awesome content for them... We do what the game designers do. We should GET Zen for our work in the foundry, not pay for it...

I would drop $50 bucks for Myconnids (new mushrooms tilesets/items/npcs), some more Drow stuff, and Duegar (sp?).
The foundry mission im trying to publish at the moment has my own take on an Underdark tileset using what was available. the Myconids look a bit strange, but its the best i could accomplish. LOL

Your missing the point. We currently get no love. They nerfed the Foundry's rewards to oblivion to stop exploiters, thus chasing away most players. We currently have no support from CSR for Foundry related issues.
The focus of PWE, the people who publishes Neverwinter, not makes its content (thats Cryptic) is to make a business out of the games they Publish. So they force the makers to do things that generate profits. Foundry generates none, its not a subscription game. The Foundry *may* bring more customers who *may* utilize the Zen store...but we all know PWE doesn't use that business model. They want direct profits for direct reasons. Add the Foundry to their profits, and they will push it.
PW is already a money-sucking machine and some of us just CAN'T afford paying for Foundry stuff. So if those who paid can even view the paid content, that's shutting out people just becuase they are too poor to pay.
And with Foundry being down every week for the past month, you REALLY want to give them more money so that they can keep ignoring you and treating you like a whining child?
Also, I can already see the ****load of comments from people: "OMG, yur quest is so ugly, that and that quest looked sooooo much better, do and die u nub."

It would be optional, as all content is in the game. But it would put the Foundry in the sights of PWE's Profit Monster.
PWE's focus has never really been player happieness, so praying for that outcome for the Foundry is probably gonna wind up in the same place as the other venues that don't make PWE money....the trash. If it could make them a dollar, they would invest in it. Simply put.
As it stands, NW is full of Paywalls because of PWE's involvement, and they focus a lot on them. If they tossed a paywall into the Foundry somewhere, they might focus on it.
If I ever am asked to pay for anything at all for Foundry, other than extra Quest/Campaign slots, then I'm out, for good.
I have paid nada so far, and would have no hesitation in walking away from that "investment".
I subbed WoW for 3 years, and left the day Panda-Patch went live.
I subbed LotRO on and off for a couple of years and left the day they introduced "Hobbit Slot-Machines".
The moment a company goes one step over my red-lines I walk.
And asking me to pay them for the "privilege" of doing their work for them is a HUGE red-line.

Farming Zen isn't that hard, but it would require authors to play the game more than merely sitting in the foundry. ( As I currently do.) I'm fairly certain they will do this, one way or another. And for those willing to adapt, it might be a good thing. But it will create a sort of elitist group of those who can afford/get all the packs than those who cannot. - Just my two cents.
Paying for the privilege to provide free work to a corporation is the the ugliest kind of crass exploitation, and I have nothing but pity for anyone that would willingly participate in, or even encourage that kind of manipulation.

I paid for Monster Manuals, the Draconomicons, the Demonomicon, and the Manual of the Planes in order to have more monsters to work with in my table-top campaign. That's a little over two hundred dollars. I have no problem with contributing to the game if I get enough bang for my buck.

Ok, I try not to get mixed up in controversial matters as I have a tendency to ride the fence when there are valid arguments on both sides, but this topic has good points on both sides.
I will make a comparison to illustrate my stance.
I use a program called iClone (primarily used for animated movie making) and I have spent a good amount of money on it over the past three years (content packs mostly). The big difference between that program and the Foundry is flexibility. iClone doesn’t live on a server and thus never goes down. I can download 3D objects and import them into my scenes and everything can be edited and scaled. It has a customer support department.
I agree that authors shouldn’t have to pay to create content and players shouldn’t be stuck paying to play quests either. I think a middle ground would be an option to purchase (at a fair price) an advanced Foundry program that the authors can download to their systems that have iClone type functionality and support, while maintaining a free version for those that are financially challenged. The same idea could be applied to content packs.
All in all, I’m happy with the Foundry (with what it is) and yes I do think that several things need to be improved and added (like support), but I don’t think feeding the machine is a catch all solution to the issues with the Foundry.

The moral of my original post was not to institute complete monitization of the foundry. It was to highlight the clear fact that the Foundry receives the scraps left over. PWE directs the flow of development, and the Devs are Cryptic. If we want to see a better Foundry, it has to appeal to PWE first and foremost. And what do they love? $$$$$
I don't agree about it at all. The Foundry was nerfed because it damaged sales of the Zen store. If we want it un-nerfed.....take a few guesses.

First point: expecting players to purchase packs to play foundry content is a gigantic step in the wrong direction. That will only serve to drive people away from the content. There is already a perceived risk of time wasted on poor quality or broken content whenever you try a new quest, so adding a financial investment won't go over well. Plus, I would never presume to ask my audience, friend or stranger, to pay real money for an item they'll possibly only use during my 15 - 60 minutes of content. So this part, at least, I am firmly against.
Would I buy additional tools or assets? It depends on their usefulness and, more to the point, pricing model - and based on their current Zen store inventory, I think it unlikely. Your mileage may vary, but I have yet to find a price tag in that shop that matches the value of the product. They have a business to run, the game is free, I don't have to buy... I know the counterpoints. I just can't see past the fact that the price of an entire game elsewhere gets me a single, tiny, and often very temporary, fraction of a game here. Pay to use foundry assets won't be different. And while I personally disagree with the notion that I am content building for cryptic - I am essentially playing game designer in a risk and pressure free setting - once I start putting money on the table, that game is over. Now there is pressure to make that investment worthwhile, and the risk that, even if I do my best, the content will sink into instant obscurity after publishing, and the money was wasted. I would have to strongly consider if my money would be better spent supplementing my creative fun more productively with Adobe products, or a night class in programming and modelling content that I actually own.
TL/DR version: I would be unwilling to support the game in this way, at least if the bang for my buck is comparable to the rest of their merchandise.
to your larger point, yes the foundry needs attention. But in a game that has only just gone officially live, and was pre-live "live" for just a little longer, let's give them enough time to show us what their longer term plans are before asking them to change them. We already have word of some improvements on the way, for free. So at least for now, we have evidence that the foundry is not being ignored.

NO! NO FOUNDRY STUFF IN THE ZEN STORE. This would only divide the author base, and skew the rating system even MORE.
First, let's consider the outrageous Zen prices. $30 for a mount? $20 for a companion? Just imagine how much a foundry bundle would cost. Are you really willing to drop $40-50 on a set of tools? I know I wouldn't. Consider the majority of the foundry player base. By the admission of the first post, most people don't play foundries because they were "nerfed." People just want 15-min dailies. They don't care about how brilliant your plot is, they don't care about how awesome your sense of design is. No amount of "foundry packs" would change that. The problem with the foundry player base is NOT the lack of author resources, it's the lack of reward for completing them.
Second, there would be an obvious gap between the quality of quests produced by F2P and P2W authors. Those who buy the "foundry packs" would have the resources to create undoubtedly better stories. Their stories would be played more and given better ratings on that fact alone. Consequently, those who don't buy "foundry packs" will suffer by comparison. Their quests would not be played as often, or ranked on a similar scale. Those who did not buy the "foundry packs" would have less of an incentive to continue making quests. This is bad.
Third, this is detrimental to PWE in the long run. Think about all the bugs in the foundry. All the times you had to redo your quest because of a roll back. Blah blah blah. Now imagine the outrage when this happens to people who PAID for "foundry packs." They will feel entitled to better support, etc, because they bought something. If PWE does nothing to remedy the foundry's mechanical issues (or complete lack of support)... no amount of Zen perks will remedy the foundry itself.
Fourth, the foundry is what ultimately makes Neverwinter what it is. Players CREATE content for PWE. We should not have to pay them to build their game for them.

We're already making maps for their game. We're making them money as it is. Why would I pay for stuff when they should give it to me free?
we aren't making them any money with the Foundry. And thats why its a side feature.
It's called "sustainable content", and it's what most MMOs to date have lacked. You keep players with fresh content, and they don't have enough devs to make new content. So, you sublet to a few great designers in your community. It's what kept NWN a well-played game for about, oh, 12 years. That wasn't monetized like this game is.
Problem is, it's a side-bar because most players won't play content that doesn't offer competitive rewards.
The Foundry, with a few patches, could place NWO into a "new model", where players themselves generate the content which is lacking, thus preventing the bleeding of players to other games. Sadly, they won't put the work into balancing the content so it can offer competitive rewards and not be able to be exploited.
That model, probably the one thing which might "revolutionize MMOs today", is pretty much gathering dust.
