ok. i hope cryptic are going to pay me a consultancy fee as I seem to have managed more progress on this in the last 36 hours.

im in the uk and am a virgin media customer. i have a superhub which acts as a modem and router in one. so far my superhub has worked fine with neverwinter. 36 hours ago i started getting the error "too many attempts....". All other internet activity is fine.

I have just learned that I am able to change my hub from being a modem/router to just a modem. The benefit of this is that I get a new ip address. the downfall is that I can only have 1 wired connection in my house. http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Internet-security/someones-using-my-ip-address/m-p/1487056/highlight/true#M12887

i am now fully able to access neverwinter with my new ip address. clearly there is a specific problem between my old ip and neverwinter.

whilst i have a workaround, its not the most convenient and i trust that the devs will identify a solution in the very near future

Glad it worked for you, I would also have tried that but the big issue for me is that i got a static IP and i got no router, modem, hub or switch . I got a wire straight from my fiber in the wall to my computer and im not really willing to use a VPN or proxy because that slows down my 100 mbits. So i guess i am pretty ****ed till Cryptic fixes this :/

I had this issue during closed beta with a friend of mine..... http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?156131-Too-many-log-in-attempts

It took a LOT of work on our part to fix. He has a static IP as well. You will have to google change IP go into your computer...it has nothing to do with your IP with your provider, more the IP registered to your computer. I'm not a technical person at all and I'm sure someone who is will be able to explain it better but you essentially have two IPs...one for your computer and one from your provider. My friend was able to reset his /ipconfig .... which disconnected him from internet, then renewed it....had to wait like 24 hours. It was a mess. Just good luck to all who encounter it, the support from cryptic/perfectworld did not help as my thread explains. This was completely something we had to figure out on our own, not being technical in the least.

It's a IP problem. Using my mobile I can log in, using my friend's pc I can log in.

I can't change my Ip because is static. I have called to my ISP to ask if it is possible to change my IP and they tell me that it's impossible because all my other services works fine.

I can login now again since my ISP was kind enough to change my IP adress but really Cryptic you have to look in to this becasue its a pain to call/email my ISP everytime this happens..

its not your internal ip that causes the problem. your internal ip does not connect to the server

I switched my modem/router off for 7 hours. came back to find my ip address (from provider) has changed. my internal 192.168.0.2 ip remains the same. I can now connect normally.

any official response? I do believe it would be appropriate considering the amount of money I have paid to play. 1 ticket created, several forum comments added and 1 pm sent to an admin. Patch update was very vague regarding loading error they were fixing.

Anyhows, modem being switched off tonight. Hopefully able to login tomorrow.

    Easy solution...

If you are still having this issue then download expat shield vpn (free) and doesn't effect ms outlook or your connection/network etc. You can turn it on and off as you please.

    http://www.expatshield.com/

Run it, open NW and play as you are assigned a new IP every time you connect.

You can also watch all of the BBC channels with this from overseas... :)

I am in no way affiliated with expat shield; just an Englishman living abroad.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly Neverwinter is unable to connect through expatshield (for me anyway)

    official response

    Hello,

You may just need to wait and try again later.

The following may help resolve the issue, but if not, you may just need to wait for maintenance and updates on the beta for the issue to be resolved.

If you are still experiencing the issue, try the following:

    First restart your system.

    Try flushing your DNS:

    https://support.perfectworld.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4185/kw/flush%20dns

Try changing your IP address with this method (It does not really change your personal IP, just your web IP)

    http://whatismyipaddress.com/change-ip

You can try adding the game folder/files to your exceptions list in your antivirus and firewall software. Please see the help menu or support website for the software that you use if you aren't sure how to do it.

At your own risk, you may have to disable your antivirus, firewall, and other security software temporarily while you download, install, update, login to, and play the game. Sometimes the security software will block it or throttle it, no matter what you try or even if you try to add exceptions for the game files in your security software.

    http://download.perfectworld.com/nw/launcher/Neverwinter.exe

Please be sure to put the file into your Cryptic Launcher folder; which is typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios; overwriting the existing file of the same name that is in there. This will be the same folder that also has CrypticError.exe.

    Sincerely,

The Perfect World Tech Support Team

This problem plagued me for the evening, because changing my IP wasn't so easy. My solution was to connect to the http of my primary router, and release the DHCP. Then in the setup of the router, I changed the last few digits of its MAC address through cloning.. which may be unnecessary in this configuration because I've tried this fix which changed IP's for other router-modem combos.

Anyway, disconnect power from the modem & router, remove all cables except power from modem and then reconnect power to all devices. Reset modem, while powered on, via small hole like those that eject dvd trays (hold button 11 seconds on my model), and give it a minute to reset. Then disconnect power from the modem, and reconnect network cables and coaxial cable, and power it back on.

You might need to wait another minute for the dhcp to get a proper set of addresses but it finally gave me a new external IP address, and I can reconnect to the servers.

Hours later im still waiting. what causes this???? I know sto has its moments of failing and the makers seam more interested in money from us than customer service but that aside im still waiting. Ive spent a lot of money of that game and I demand some sort of explaination from them or some idea from good people such as yourselfs? help me XD

AT&T U-verse, IP doesn't change. It's a blocked IP from my home PC. I CAN log in through proxy, but not my own (proxy slows down game to make it unplayable). Please Fix This Issue. Been out of commission for 3-4 days now

Just wanted to write to those who have this problem since I managed to fix it. It is Cryptic's account guard system. The best fix is to log into Cryptic's account guard. I don't know how to get into it from the NW site, but you can find it on the account section of their Star Trek game. It's the same account guard over all their games. You have to log in twice, as the account guard is a separate log in. Once you get in, disable account guard, just turn it off. Worked for me. Hope it does for you.

Either servers just went offline or this is happening to me too. I don't see anything in patch notes and there is no **** server status link anywhere! ARG!

You guys are going to force me to go back to EQ2 unless you start listening to your community. Oh and why cant I post a new thread on these forums? I'm logged in and all that stuff.

I've had an issue similar to this since beta ended, although it's not with the login, it's with the loading screen. After logging in it starts to load and stops and disconnects after a few seconds. It's odd that you are all getting this message though because I have had nights where I was surfing and though I would try to get into the game, so I would repeat the login and click enter, do this somethings for hours just to see if i could enter the game while doing something else. I've had some 60+ attempts in a row where i just couldn't get it to load but never saw a to many attempts message.

I had opened tickets for this because I created a new account to see if it was an account bug, got the same thing eventually with the new account. My first ticket was eventually answered by Customer Support, after a month, which shocked me that they even answered, and they basically said there is no fix for this issue at this time and closed the issue.
