what a crock of BS. As a solo player I am more inclined to purchase zen and buy the items I want. If I was in a guild I don't really need to because I can obtain everything I need from in game methods such as running dungeons and doing the daily quest faster with guildmates. Doing that enough times I'd have plenty of diamonds to just buy whatever else I needed from the AH without ever having to support the game with my wallet. Flawed research is flawed.
Where do you think those cash shop items in the AH came from? Whether you buy them or player x buys them someone still spends cash.
I really wish more MMO players had an IQ higher than a chihuahua

Get over it, seriously, some things are made to be multiplayer.

weapons and armour can be placed on the AH, but those items don't come from the cash shop. Someone has to either do a dungeon for the gear or use the extra glory points to try and sell after getting all the glory gear.

I don't think they are looking to make money by getting players to join guilds. It is more like a way to encourage socialization.
I'm all for socialization, but the party system is still not great and the loot system doesn't help.
A guild doesn't guarantee that you have a good experience. I have been playing MMO for a long time and guild have given me BAD experience. I don't mind grouping with random people and deal with mechanics, but guild tend to add DRAMA into the mix which make me quit many games before.
Trust me ,the flavor today is that any new pug you join someone appoints themselves guild leader in a pug group and proceeds to tell you were to stand..where to cast your spells..when to cast them...what to tab..how to play..I tell those pug "leaders" to f*** off and i leave group..making Frienemies is soo much fun.
You people are truly self centered and greedy. You're reasoning for not joining any guild and the way you refute studies of MMO retention based on your ability to get loot solo shows it. Players do not stay with a guild simply because it gets them loot faster. There is camaraderie and a sense of obligation that develops to help those that consistently help you. You people are extremely narrow minded and ignorant children with daddy's wallet, or grown *** men that suck at everything they do and love the idea of throwing cash at a game to make yourself seem better then you are. You people are pathetic, sad excuses for individuals.
To those angry about guild requirements to do Gaunt, get over it. The game gave us a reason for guilds to be there beyond a friend list with a chat channel, enjoy it, join a guild, and make some friends, or continue your lonely sad existence from the real world into the virtual one as well, and remember, its down the road, not across the street.

Suggested fixes for Gauntlegerm:
1. Lose the lockout timer, good god, a lockout? Really? What is so awesome you want us to play something else rather than get/experience it?
2. Lose the Guild requirement! Bad idea, you should feel bad! Let us each choose an alignment and group up or solo queue for the content just like anything else.
Let people have fun with it if they like it. Why do you have to add obstacles, annoyances, and tedium?
People used to use the excuse that they want to extend subscriptions, so what are Cryptic doing gating the limited content and putting pre-requisits to enjoy it?
I'm pretty sure i've seen a strikingly similar topic when STO added Fleet only content and projects. When they did the star base additions. Folks raged, and folks loved it.
Guess you cant please everyone, no matter what you do.

true, but the difference is that in STO, you can be in a 1 person guild (after getting people to help you form it which still need 5 people), you can participate in the event.
In NW, you CAN'T unless you have at least 20 members and give allegiance. (that is how I understand it)

yea, cause grouping with weed smokers a$$hats and megalomaniacs is my idea of fun.
If being boring means I don't wanna sling sh** at each other like monkeys in a cage and roll around in your own self importance with you while kissing some pimply face kids a$$ to get a group invite..then yes!..I'm boring!
Everquest requires you to be in a guild if you ever want to do end game raids (which fit up to 72 people for Planes of Power raids).
Nope. Used to PUG those quite often. That game had one of the better raid group mechanics when they finally came up with one (which they did in the velious era) - which did not require people to be in a guild. If I am the raid leader, I need to know who the group leaders are, and when I invite them, each of their groups gets added to the raid chart. No guilds needed.

If it require a guild, it should benefit the guild in some way. It should give Guild XP, guild reward, guild titles.... something.
Just being a guild and you can still group with random people (who are also guilded) to run a dungeon is just silly gated mechanics.

So you essentially hate the type of people that play MMOs yet play MMOs yourself. You also sound rather self important and holier then thou in your comments. Good to know you're nothing like the things you apparently can't stand to group with.
What some are confusing here is group versus guild. No one is disputing that there are or needs to be GROUP only runs. What is being disputed whether or not making it so players absolutely must be in a guild in order to play that specific content is a reasonable game mechanic.

It's common knowledge that guilds are comprised of a hierarchy. If you aren't part of that guild when its founded..you are an outsider. You are treated that way and you wind up paying back triple fold in time and usually free crafted armor to all those who deem themselves worthy just to get a chance at a looted purple.
Adding any new person to a guild results in you falling into a clique of players (not of your choice) and if you're not part of the "A" team (most experienced players) you are left to fend for yourself in the shortbus squad.
Those chosen for the A team are not those who play the game well..they are those who laugh at the bad jokes and create the most teamspeak memes that are spammed the most and get the biggest laughs. It's all very "highschool" if you ask me.
P.S. I didn't join a sorority in College either.

The thread is why do we have to be in a guild to run content. I agree that a group is needed but i think the guild requirement needs to be removed. Some of us dont join a guild because we have busy lives and dont have the time or the schedule to meet the requirements a guild might have.
This is where people show ignorance.
Massivly Multiplayer simply means lots of people online doing the same content at the same time
rather then a single player counsole game.
It has nothing to do with grouping forced or otherwise.
For those saying being guilded means you stay longer because you got help... thats BS as well force people to
play a certian way through poor design and game mechanics will force peole to leave for a game that lets them play thier way.
Bad design is bad design no matter how you spin it.
How about forcing the people who enjoy group play into playing solo content all the time as the developers pander to the cassual solo player crowd. where is the group content that encourages social interaction, and no I'm not talking about the queueu for a dungeon to play with 4 other people who don't say a word the entire run.
What about having areas in the open world require cooperative group play or you are smashed into oblivion? What about having classes that tie together so intricately that you NEED to have specific classes playing together to maximize each class (coercer, dirge, berzerker, inquisitor from eq2 anyone?)
What about the group oriented ppl who are forced to solo to max because the solo players cried all the group content out of game because "It isn't fare!"
I am also sick to death of seeing ppl scream that argument when saying that MMO doesnt mean you have to play with other people. WHAT THE F*CK is the point of playing a game online at all if you do not want to play or if the intent wasn't to play with other people? They have a bazillion consoles out for those players.

If you don't have a guild, why not just create a 1-person guild? And as an extra bonus, you can get bank storage a lot cheaper than at the Zen store (for the first couple of pages, anyway.)

Yes but often the dungeon and glory gear are being sold to generate funds to purchase CS items, or other in game gear, most often its for CS items, I personally will run dungeons repetitively to gain drops for the AH to sale and in turn buy CS items I want.
Often guilds will run dungeons to sale items for items like hp/mp runes etc. Especially in games that have guild vs guild PvP or territory battles or they're turning over unwanted gear to buy needed gear.

Clearly, guild achievements and possibly guild housing is planned. They are (Guild or GTFO™) guilds on people so they can later add (probably) ladders, guild buffs, etc. All the HAMSTER that gets ignored by almost everyone in MMOs.
How this will tie into the store is anyone's guess, but we know it most assuredly will. Maybe guild xp potions, furniture, tabards, etc.

...this is a completely unrelated comment. The issue is not playing solo vs grouping, it's only being able to do the new content if you're guilded.
Raid content = group
New Raid = guilded
I know that they both start with a G but they are actually two different words with two different meanings.
