I'm new to the game in the past couple of days and enjoying it so far, however was sad to see a player who was quite happy to take advantage of my new status and to profit from it.
I had a deal with him, i was selling a rank 7 enchant for 200g (I didn't even check if that's the right amount, he just offered and the gold sounded good plus i found the enchant in a nightmare chest anyway).
I'm not sure what happened but the trade commenced and i realised that he hadn't put the gold there (though i had seen is previously) he said 'careless', left the party changed zone and didn't speak to me again (this after showing me the money once or twice more in trade).
This really sucked as something to happen 2 days into my neverwinter play, it's a stupid trick i shouldn't have fell for but it sucks...

Naming and Shaming isn't allowed on the Forums. You'll want to remove their name.
If you feel it merits it, you can always report the player.
I'm not sure if they'll do anything, since they always recommend trading using the AH though...

Nice game so far though
Chalk this up to another horrible design idea of cryptic.
All they needed to do was if the opposing trader changes their trade transaction it locks the accept button on your side. This "trick" has been used by quite a few who are taking advantage of trade deals. They drop in an item to trade, remove it and hope you will press accept.
An easy solution would be to check the status of the trade transaction and check if any "updates" have occurred. If the opposing side removes an item it should lock out the accept button until both parties agree to the terms and then accept the deal. It's called Tri-level management where you have two levels of security for safe trades. Why they didn't implement this with having so much MMO experience is just another failure on the part of cryptic.

I'm not one for using forums often, a forum ban is fine - i'd just rather people see this guys name.
and Krump - I did find the trade window to not be the most intuitive and really do see myself being told to 'be more careful' as a result of the report i sent in.
Unfortunately Cryptic/PWI will not lift a hand to help you out. They don't allow you to public name and shame their customers because it's bad for business.
The reasons naming and shaming are against the rules are all well and good - it just sucks that when you're the one with the name you know the reasons are irrelevant as they're all true. I removed the name anyway.
It just sucks because i can honestly say if i received the item i'd have stuck around to pay, whether it were my mistake or the other persons and to think that he seemed to do it on purpose... If it had been a play who has played less MMO's than I have it could have made them dc and not come back right there.
Sadly there's a lot of ******bags in this game because Cryptic/PWI keeps a hands off approach when dealing with it's player community. All petition are handled thru an impersonal query system that takes weeks for them to get answered.
What an absurd situation. This fellow gets scammed and is willing to brave a forum ban to save anyone else the malfeasance of a scammer and some tiny person wants to report him. If anyone wanted to shed a little faith in humanity this is certainly the place to do that.
And on a related note, this is why parents should really put some work into instilling some ethics in your children. It’s not as easy as you think and the internet is clearly not going to do it for you.
You won’t get banned for naming and shaming. The thread will get closed down and in general the mods are very polite about it. You will get banned for obviously pushing the mods or being confrontational, but it seems like that’s not what the OP is about.
Unfortunately the prohibition on naming and shaming has a valid basis. The bad guys can use it to grief and harm the innocent. So, while I wish you could list the scammers name here and save someone else the indignity of falling into the trap, that would feed a much larger furnace of malevolence.
Best to just join the chorus telling Cryptic to wake up and fix the system such that junior inmates cannot ply their trade on the legitimate players.
You are a pretty sad person to report someone who is reporting someone scamming them. I honestly could care less about naming/shaming.. its a stupid messed up rule. You know who need common sense.. you!
Saying you could care less means depending on the situation you have the ability to care less, meaning you care somewhat. When a person says that they couldn't care less, they are saying they dont have the capacity to care at all. Or in other words, theres no way possible for me to care less. One of my buttons is when people say this wrong. All it takes is a little thought to make sure you dont sound like a complete HAMSTER.
@nectarprime I have reported you for being a total HAMSTER and a pointless addition to the gaming community, players like you have no place in either the game or the forums, shame on you, shame "Learn some common sense!!!!"
Sorry to hear you got scammed Skankinpig and sadly had to put up with an idiot when on the forums while explaining your plight.
maybe besides all the useless stuf in replys, there`s an option to just mail pwe in private and name, that`s alowed ;p
i don`t know if they have the option to make the transaction undone.
tech side of this game is prety low, unfortunatly.
there won`t be much hold back to restore a 200g transaction if the other spots were just empty.
in common sense then, but i`m out again ;p lot of pussies crying about naming a real scammer. but ok, not alowed, so you should send it to pwe instead of public.
at least, this is giving nothing on forum, and then your chance would be slightly bigger.
but maybe also without result, but whatever. at least it`s done the right way then.
The fault lies heavily on the scammed. They did not do research on appropriate prices nor did they watch the trade window carefully. The scammer is a prick, but the scammed is also to blame.
And whatever the reason you have for posting someone's name does not matter. It is against the forum rules and is a reportable offense. Has OP provided any proof? No. So all of you people defending OP are harassing others with absolutely no evidence that OP is telling the truth. This is why naming and shaming are not allowed on the forum.
Be more careful next time, OP. This stuff happens, and it all boils down to you being aware.
It's not about how you feel, it's about how pw feels. I doubt the OP would be happy if say, he got banned or something for naming said person.
What if the op is lying about what happened? What if the op is actually the scammer? What is the op is just harassing this person?
Were you there? Do you know if this really happened?
That's why it's against the rules.
That pretty much sums it up.
This rule protects you and me better than it protects the scammers. Because if naming and shaming were to be allowed then there is nothing holding shady characters back from griefing anybody they want. The whole thing then spirals out of control.
I also think that we should let the mods do the policing, and not worry so much about reporting people who have seemingly broken ToS. It just puts a foul taste into everyones mouth. However, I am pretty sure that both, the op and the person who reported him, had noble intentions but are looking at the same picture from different angles.
Let's be nice, and cut each other some slack once in awhile.
Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of cheaters/scammers in the game. You here about something like this happening just about everyday in Protectors Enclave chat. Auction house is your best place to do business, because of the built-in safety, and because you can compare prices...just my two cents worth. Sorry you got swindled by some lowlife.

9/10 of the sellers in zone chat are serious scammers offering horrendous deals and/or lying outright about even having something to sell. I hate that you got scammed, but look at the bright side you learned early on?
This is the most predatory MMO community I've seen. First F2P game I've played so that could be part of it.

Thank you for being the only other person here with a brain.
The types of people in this thread are spawns of the WoW generation - blaming others for their oversights and mistakes.
The reason drunk driving is illegal is because the alcohol actively impedes your reaction and judgment and you could do serious harm to yourself and others.
Having a trade system where it is easy to scam is bad but made so much worse by the lack of any activity after the fact. There is no way to get any sort of recompense for being scammed so all scams are either 100% successful or 0% successful but there is no penalty for either.
Saying that trader is to blame rather than the scammer is like saying one should just get out of the way of a drunk driver and it’s your fault if you don’t. Silly arguments like that muddy the real focus.
Cryptic needs to see that this is a problem and put in some safeguards.
Trading should not involve ninja reactions, random pauses and/or lucky rabbit's foot. Both parties should be able to see what is being offered and agree to it without it changing before their eyes. If this was the case you could say the OP was careless, but that isn't the case.
While I am in total agreement with tang56’s assessment, I might point out that if this thread really was reported then it has already been observed and since it hasn’t been shut down the mods are choosing to leave it open and allow us this discussion.
Let’s make it worth the effort of pressing all these keys. The OP was on about getting scammed and talking about the nature of the trade system might be more useful than the naming and shaming debate which is an absolute dead end.

Naming and shaming isnt allowed, but trading and shaming sure is. When games protect scammers they will continue to show up and scam people. When they put in a trade window that completely favors trade scamming due to allowing the scammer to remove their item and click trade again quickly, they are indirectly assisting the scammers themselves.

This can also be done reporting it threw the PW website, so what is the difference?
The difference is that with the one, only PWE staff can see it.
Via the forums, anyone can, and some people will take it at face value instead of giving due process a chance.

Still ends in the same result. PW will decide if any wrongdoing had been done.

Ultimately yes, however players will generally see that person and decide they're a scammer and not trust them, or report_spam them when they try to sell legitimately. (Especially since on the forums, all they might see is the thread locked n closed, since PWE can't discuss / disclose account actions or lack thereof.)
Thank you for being the only other person here with a brain.

Wrong, the agreement prior to finalising takes precedence, L2Law. The scammer still owes the scam victim 200g. Only a HAMSTER would have your point of view. Why didnt the guy just pay the 200g......

I am sorry, but it is my choice to block someone who has been reporting for scamming/ninja'ing. PW cannot tell me I cannot do this, and this is my choice. I am pretty sure I can tell when something sounds fishy, and when something sounds legit.
I can just whisper the person in game, get the players handle, and block.

I see his post, and I also see the OP's Post. There is no name, I know this. What I am trying to say what is stopping me from finding it out. He reported a scam, and I will block the person from ever being able to talk to me in game. What's wrong with that.

Rule of thumb in trading : always wait for others to insert in the agreed upon trade products before accepting or finalizing any deals. Take to heart that a rank 7 gem can always be obtained again. I make it a point to myself no matter how friendly a player, always be careful in dealings outside the Auction house.
