Man they need a like button on these forums. I for one will power through this and learn to adapt, already have a build in mind. I'm also interested to see what Mewbrey is cooking up, as their build was my fav pre-update.
LOL
Good for you i guess. You seem to care a lot about those quitting...
I'm not the kind who loves being screwed over and over by devs who willingly choose to ignore their community. I'm not gonna play a game when the class I like is badly designed and not fun at all.
I'll probably keep an eye on this game tho... that is if it gets properly fixed before a new and better mmo appears.

I want this class in NW.

I've learned from my mistakes playing a Paladin in WoW vanilla. I can already see the writing on the wall with this class now.
I'm outta here.

LOL back at you, DC is the most fun "healer class" I've seen in an MMO in years.

Then i'm sorry for you dear fanboy, you seem to have seen very little.
There's at least 3 games that I know of that don't have the "typical mmo healer" as a healer class, more like a battle/support/whatever class and it's like a thousand times more fun than the devoted cleric (a.k.a.deadweight).
I mean, it's alright to like the devoted cleric, but it is not (by far) the most fun healer class i've seen in years, that's for sure.
I've deliberately avoided leveling my DC up to 60 because of this upcoming change, just so I wouldn't get totally reliant on AS in Epic dungeons. I did, however, get into the mid-50s, so at least I got to enjoy the OP version while soloing for a while
I'll at least try to adapt to the new system before bailing out. We do get a free respec, so hopefully that'll help some. Wouldn't mind seeing them boost some of our weaker abilities a little though - seems like all DCs got in this update is nerf after nerf after nerf, even taking reduced add aggro into account.

we're not being screwed over they are fixing something that should have never been in the game. Sadly did people exploit this bug like no tomorrow and make it a crutch because the tank classes were broken? Yes, yes they did.. however the Tanks aren't broken anymore, and that 5 seconds does not make or break you. Between CW CC, and GF abilities you can survive fine.. oh wow group play has become important.. oh noes this is so terribull...

Honestly some well timed(instead of asap on cooldown usage) CC from the CW's, some TR's slotting smoke bomb, etc etc I'm not too worried. Wish I could have tested some but that's ok. Won't be long now.

This wasn't a bug no matter what they say. It was intended for AS to scale in length with rank just like a myriad of other skills do. It's extremely common in any MMO to make spells more powerful, and longer lasting with rank. This is a straight up old school nerf, with them saying it was an unintented bug to do damage mitigation. Whatever, it's their game they can do what they see fit.
Either way people that roll dungeons now will roll dungeons afterwards. It's only the clerics that enjoy PvP that are hamburger.
What I'm surprised about is the number of clerics that have no idea this is coming. This is just going to show up and sideswipe people. Should be fun to break out the popcorn after patch day and just hang out in protectors.

teamwork? who was even discussing that?
So all this means that you're okay with your crappy healing, not even average damage, nerfed survivability and reduced damage mitigation? Because... tell me at least ONE of your encounters (except for astral shield) that's almost as powerful and useful as any of the other classes' encounters. And don't even get me started with our crappy at wills.
Sure, daunting light is omfgpwnage IF in divinity mode, just not enough at end game, yeah FF is our best HoT IF in divinity mode. Evey skill we have is crappy out of divinity and becomes decent in divinity, but good skills? Astral Shield. And that's it.
You must be a HAMSTER. That's my conclussion.
A thing that cannot heal properly nor deal proper damage. That's what you are as a cleric in this game... and I see you enjoying your crappyness =/
Well I don't and until they fix that I deffinitely won't.

That is youre option only. DC is the most frustrating class i ever played, period. And for me it is about to become even more frustrating. I like Neverwinter enough to try and play CW or GF but i wont touch my cleric with a six foot poll after update goes life, unless i absolutely have to.

Using powers as they are designed is not exploiting a bug. The power was simply poorly designed, making it more powerful than it should have been. They are now trying to fix it, along with many other issues.
I look forward to seeing how all the changes to all the classes sort out, and expect a few more changes before the dust finally settles. I also expect the game to be better for it, once the process is done.
So basically there will be no DC's left and all the pugs will have to cry and scream and hope they're GF is a god? Man my buddies are gonna love having me around. I don't see any reason to believe that we won't continue to steamroll PVE content

That's the thing with value judgments. Everyone judges things to have a different value. If you didn't enjoy playing a DC, you should have moved on long before now. As such, the changes to DC are quite beneficial to you, as they will help you to do just that.
Well I guess the end is near for all you Clerics that think the 5 second cool down is going to completely bone our class :-)
Because clerics are the only healer in Neverwinter and healers are required for end game content "The End" is not going to happen... If Cryptic added another healer class to the game then maybe it would be but until then all these doom and gloom comments are pointless.

I agree. While being a "heal bot" in general might not be the most appealing of choices, other games at least give you potential to react to a changing situation. They give you the power to make decisions. And they give you clutch potential. All of this is missing with the current iteration of the Devoted Cleric, making him pretty feel dull and unimpactful to play outside of "Oh ****, bugged threat got me a billion of adds, better kite now and mash Healing Potion button, hoping someone rescues me". Yep, these situations every cleric faces sooner or later - twenty or something zombies chase you, you're running for your life, hoping someone will kill them, and this is probably the most excitement you'll have throughout this dungeon.
We aren't reactive (for example, to a huge spike of unavoidable damage coming up) - Damage Reduction (AS, HG, Foresight, Feat'ed Bastion) is always proactive, HoTs (Healing Word, AS) are always proactive, residual healing (Astral Seal, Repurpose Soul) is always proactive - Bastion of Health, Divine Armor and Divine Healing Word are our only reactive options, all of which are useless and/or outclassed by our other abilities in relative potential.
We don't make many decisions - most of our main healing tools (AS, SB, HG - BoH, DA) are medium-to-large AoE effects with little actual decision-making involved. Sure, you can count Divinity management here, but it's pretty obvious which powers require Divinity and which are best used to create some. The only targeted options are HW and FF (don't get me started on targeting HW properly in low-level groups where companions swarm everywhere).
We don't really have clutch potential. This, for me, made healing in games like WoW far more enjoyable - keeping someone who would die within the next seconds alive, simply due to your contribution. If someone is about to die in NW (low hp + big incoming hit), what does a DC contribute? AS is already placed, our heals are either pretty low compared to expected damage (SB, BoH) or work over time (HW, D-FF). Divine Armor might work - but in most cases, we've probably spent our AP on far-superior HS instead. We just stand there, helpless, pondering whether wasting some Divinity on Soothing Light might save the poor fool (hint: it won't). With the upcoming duration "fix" to AS, clutch potential becomes more important, as we face that five-second hole during which the biggest part of our residual healing plus damage prevention doesn't work. Time will tell how we will cope with this issue, which will hit low-geared groups the hardest.
Some of our powers have hints of a more active style of play - Forgemaster's Flame is a fun spell, and with the Patch, Divine Glow becomes a handy party buff that requires proper aim for best results. However, most of the Cleric's powers don't come close to this.
its gonna be a game of survival than face-tanking and dps'ing without thinking; rogues will now have to learn how to back off a fight when needed and get healed.

I actually think the DC is one of the most interesting classes Ive played in any MMO. I like the DMG converted to healing aspect and making decisions when to use dmode for XYZ skill.
The changeto ashield is definately going to suck. I really liked the idea of casting ashield as soon as it was off cooldown/dissappeared. It was FUN to do that. Now, that 5 seconds is going to be an eternity. Hold on for dear life.
Could they have at least buffed some of our other stuff, or make the radious of ashield larger?
Comments
I've been too lazy to throw an AS every 15 seconds anyway :P
