This is just going to make items harder to find on the AH, isn't it? Personally, I never try to greedily gobble up other people's items, but I sort of appreciate the fact that other people do, just because it makes the AH so good. Selling purple items for gold doesn't help the economy at all! And make no mistake - people will still roll need on everything even if they can't sell in on AH. As someone said earlier, "a little gold is better than no gold".
A rich rogue nowadays is fit company for any gentleman; and the world, my dear, hath not such a contempt for roguery as you imagine. - John HAMSTER
When did the definition of "loot ninja" get changed from "the guy who grabs up loot before anyone else gets a chance to even see what it is" to "the guy who wins the loot fair and square with a random roll"? I mean, it's all well and good to arbitrarily decide one person's need is greater than another's based on their present ability to equip the item and that the person rolling for items they debatably don't need is a jerk, but they're hardly sneaking in quickly and stealing loot like a ninja when everyone can roll for it.
Why not run the game with friends or guild mates? Or build your own groups so that you are the leader.
I agree that the need/greed system is problematic, but on the other hand, it does benefit the game's economy and I don't necessarily mind being able to gear up an alt through the AH. But yes, it does cause community issues.
Yeah, why not cut out encounters with random players all together and cripple community growth.
If someone is making the argument that nothing needs to change, then they are defending the status quo, which is the current loot system.
Is anyone actually making that argument, though?
The closest I see are people who say what other people should do, assuming the current system stays in place. That includes the all-need-all people, the join-a-guild people, and (ironically) people like the guy I replied to, who seem to think the only problem is that people are somehow misinformed or uneducated about "proper" etiquette.
That's not so much defending the status quo as it is offering advice on dealing with the status quo, assuming it doesn't change.
You can for sure see those very one's the OP mentioned on here... always disclaiming the fact there a $hitbag and rob others over a madeup piece of graphic...I say BOP on a need roll...PWE will make their money, it all comes out in the wash for their betterment anyways. Won't be an economy if a large lump of players get sick of this HAMSTER and quit.

"Sir, were now surrounded"!
Thats great news son, now we can attack from ALL sides"!
It is working as intended. More loot into AH, more AD needed to buy, more Zen sold. I don't know why this is so hard for people to grasp. This game is designed so that PWE makes as much money as possible. You think Bind on Equip on everything was an accident?
False, it tends to be the opposite.
Less loot into AH = More AD needed to buy.
The amount of players who would really want the item isn't going to increase or decrease just because there be more or less of the items available.
But the price per item will decrease drastically if there's a ton of it available.
Me suggest you open up the AH and check it out for yourself.

Still, I like the OP's suggestion.
I've had players who I've immediately ignore listed because they flat out stated they "needed" a non class item to sell it so that they can buy their own gear when me was right there literally able and wanting to use the piece of gear on the spot. (Also they tend to be the players who play terribly.)
Derp.
I'll tell you something even if you make a need roll on a purple worth 1 copper, if the people you mention are ninjas indeed they will still roll for it just to make you nerdrage.
The need and greed system has never worked good in any mmo I played (that I can't remember) and I played quite a "few".
When the problem is people there is no system you can put in place that will ever work 100% , not even close to it.
So like suggested here if you want it not to happen just go with friends.
I would rather have them focus on the party leader "has all permissions" problem. You just go into a dungeon and they kick you if they don't want you without going through any kind of voting. That is way worse than the loot rolls.
Seriously man. Do you even think before you write. The current system is HAMSTER the system I posted is much better. Yes it can be exploited by the troll. But they are few and far between.
Just run with friends you say. very helpful thank you that's great +1 for putting your mind to the problem.
Just change the loot rule to "Leader Decides " and if you're the leader just give the drop to whoever you like , oh wait then you can just ninja everything yourself . Scratch that

So you're saying that Timeless set pieces are like 50k each ? Well not really , get your facts straight .
the main thing that bothers me about this "need" thing is having a DC in your group who clicks need on everything that drops daring you to kick the only cleric

I don't normaly feed the trolls but when I do. I give'em facts.
June 20th, the ninja looter will be stopped by the need button being greyed out if their class can't use it. (although I do admit that same class ninja'ing won't be stopped but no solution is perfect.)

**** system abused by greedy players. Not the first game with this issue. Zzzzzz.
i like this idea!
And where, kind sir, is the p2w you are talking about?

None of this will stop ninja looting. All of these things are in other games and it still goes on.
This is why I no longer care about "stuff" in mmos. I enjoy the game to level cap...then I'm out and on to another game.
