I remember it being said that Module 1 will include both a new class and new Paragon Paths.

any guesses/speculation as to what those Paragon Paths will be?

I've never played D&D so I'm not sure what those are. anyone wanna fill me in on possibilities?

There is a 99% chance they are going to add all the classes / paragon paths from the 4th edition players handbook. This game is pretty spot on for 4th ed. d&d. From what I understand they have the release schedule set for one new class and one new race every 2 months for the next ~3 years.

    Classes
    Battle cleric
    Devoted cleric
    Great weapon fighter
    Guardian Fighter
    Ardent paladin
    Avenging Paladin
    Two-blade ranger
    Archer Ranger
    Trickster Rogue
    Brute Rogue
    Scourge warlock
    Deceptive warlock
    Inspiring Warlord
    tactical warlord
    Control wizard
    War wizard

    Paragon Paths
Clerics: Angelic Avenger • Divine Oracle • Radiant Servant • Warpriest
Fighters: Iron Vanguard • Kensei • Pit Fighter • Swordmaster
Paladins: Astral Weapon • Champion of Order • Hospitaler • Justiciar
Rangers: Battlefield Archer • Beast Stalker • Pathfinder • Stormwarden
Rogues: Cat Burglar • Daggermaster • Master Infiltrator • Shadow Assassin
    Warlocks: Doomsayer • Feytouched • Life-Stealer
Warlords: Battle Captain • Combat Veteran • Knight Commander • Sword Marshal
Wizards: Battle Mage • Blood Mage • Spellstorm Mage • Wizard of the Spiral Tower

    Just google it.

google brings back a bunch of "homebrew" stuff that I'm not interested in, as I don't think it is relative to this game.

sorry. i edited my post w/ more info.

idk what paragon paths go with what class variant, I don't actually have the p&p rulebooks, have never seen them in person, and have never played 4th ed D&D before Neverwinter.

This is just what I found using google.

There are a ton of paragon paths for each class and new ones get added all the time.

That said I would dearly like to see atypical paragon paths instead of paragon paths that are more of the same of what the class already is. Unusual things like Leader paths ala Guildmaster Thief for Rogue. Problem is many paragon paths are restricted by things like race or weapon. So there are a lot of restraints on what Cryptic can use in the game.

The current paragon paths are all "More of the same". Which is fine for someone that wants to specialize in what the class already does. But I would love to see paragon paths that add depth or utility to the classes. There should be one path that enhances the classes existing specialization ( We already have those ), one path that is the opposite so to speak ( An offensive path for Guardians, a Defensive one for GWF, a dps one for Clerics, etc ) and one path that is a grab bag / wildcard utility path ( Guilldmaster Thief for example ).

I think adding paragon paths would be the easiest and cheapest route for them to take.

I mean they only add 1 at will, 1 encounter, and 1 daily that actually have graphics and animations that would need to be created. The rest are class features or feats that are just behind the scene numbers.

A new class is an entire new set of graphics and animations from top down.

That being said, the game won't really feel like a full ad&d game to me without iconic classes such as paladin and ranger

That is what the basic paragon paths in the phb do. The GWF ones for example, swordmaster is aeo dps and pitfighter is cc. Angelic Avenger is melee dps and Divine Oracle is ranged healer. Sword Marshal is single target dps, and Knight Commander is group buffs.

Totally off topic, but I much prefer the paragon mechanic to prestige classes.

    I see, thanks all.

need to see what the difference between a Fighter and a Warlord is. one would think that Warlord would be a subset of Fighter.

Warlord is kind of fighter-ish, but fighting is not its role. Warlord is the class that replaced bard in core rules. Bard used to be the primary buffer class, with bard songs providing massive attack and defense bonuses to everyone in group, off healing, wielding melee weapons like longswords, and wearing medium armor for protection.

Warlord takes that role. Pretty much everything about them except the names of their abilities and lore are the same.

Warlord will be the the primary buffer class, providing massive attack and defense bonuses to everyone in group with their inspirational abilities, while off healing and off tanking.

but..but...Bards are generally awesome. why would they replace them with a Concept that belongs under the Fighter category?

When the new paths kick in I just really do hope that dual-specs and/or some sort of cheaper/free respecw will come along with it. Right now being innovative and testing powers/feats is not really something anyone wants to do cause of the expensive respec costs, which is a shame.

Also, they killed Mystra, and performed character assassination on Siamorphe, Tymora, Tyr, and Helm.

They jumped 100 years into the future, thus killing off just about every non-elf mortal (except Mirt the Moneylender).

Some were lucky and got brought back as undead/ghosts (I'm looking at you Vangerdahast and Alusair Orbarskyr).

And that's before we start mentioning the changes to geography, societies, etc.

In other words, they demolished the setting quite thoroughly.

Wow, I really thought I'd got over this. >.<

Whispers along the grapevine would give me to believe that some of this might be fixed for DnD Next. I'm waiting and seeing.

Fighter is considered a defender. The Warlord is a leader, the leader role is that of the healing / buffing type. The warlord plays much like a battle cleric, wading into the thick of melee to heal. It is a very neat class.

The beauty of this game is it has a huge amount of ground work laid for it all ready.

They didn't replace Bard with Warlord, they created a new class. A Warlord is basically a martial leader - think of an army officer, or tactical commander archetype that offers things like bonus attacks, and inspiring shouts and commands to keep fighting (which translates into healing). Bards still exist and were re-introduced in PHB2.

I've posted this table elsewhere... but here's a repeat - it includes all base classes present in the PHB / PHB2 / PHB3 for D&D 4e. Please note that the roles I've listed are their primary role, but this role can shift based on class build (ie. some Fighters are more Strikers than Defenders, and some Druids are more Leaders than Controllers... but they almost always have elements of both).

    Defender
    Leader
    Striker
    Controller

    Arcane
    Swordmage
    Artificer, Bard
    Warlock, Sorcerer
    Wizard

    Divine
    Paladin
    Cleric, Runepriest
    Avenger
    Invoker

    Martial
    Fighter
    Warlord
    Assassin, Ranger, Rogue

    Primal
    Warden
    Shaman
    Barbarian
    Druid, Seeker

    Psionic
    Battlemind
    Ardent
    Monk
    Psion

I doubt they'll do all of the classes, as they would then also have to break each class down into the various builds (like GWF/GF for Fighters). Paragon Paths are too numerous to mention as they've added LOTS over the last few years. But I imagine they'll try and include at least three for each class build eventually.

And I too think the Paragon Path is a much more elegant form of specialisation design compared to third edition Prestige classes.

I would love to see new paragon paths soon but honestly they have not even hinted at new paragon paths with module 1.

The only thing they have hinted at was a "ranged" class. And basically that is probably only being added because it was so close to being ready when Open Beta went live.

I wouldn't hold my breath on new paragon paths just yet unless they start throwing out some teasers.

That's what worries me. The game desperately needs another Leader class. But far as we know, the next two additions ( Ranger and Warlock ) are more Strikers.

    We have atm:
    Defender / Controller
    Defender / Striker
    Striker / Controller
    Controller / Striker
    Leader / Controller

We need another Leader and another Controller. Preferably a Leader / Striker ( Battle Cleric? ) and a Controller / Leader ( Druid? ). DPS is a dime a dozen atm. So there's no pressing need to keep adding more Strikers after Ranger.

I doubt they will add phb2 classes before they finish with the phb 1 classes. Although there are several NPCS in game that are clearly marked as Druids and Barbarians.

From what I understand the 3rd class that has been datamined is paladin, and the order that they will be released in is not yet known, only that the ranger is coming first. For all we know they might release paladin before warlock.

My favorite class from old school P&P days... This class would be fun as all he11 in this game. Functional too.

Marketing is all that statement was.

They can't even deliver on some of the stuff that they put in patch notes, I wouldn't count on them delivering on something like this that they've already admitted to failling on (ranger won't be till later this year, 2 months will have passed from "official" release, nevermind the amount of time passed since soft launch)

I just come to the forums for the lulz after I stopped playing along with 50+ friends after I figured out that this "game" is P2W(among other obvious issues, p2w being the main reason).

Knowing that the new class will be Warlock and NOT Ranger or Bard (the ones the community wants!!!) makes me chuckle.

I really hope, (which they will probly really do anyway) that each paragon path will be 5-10$ per char. That will make for some great Forum luring entertainment. Really looking forward to this "Module 1" -........gooood times
