I know most people probably don't care, and this has been pointed out before, but I just wanted to remind everyone that this game is NOT called "NWO" or "NeverWinter Online" -- It is simply called Neverwinter.
Here is a quote from Community Team Manager Dezstavus confirming this:
PWE has done some excellent SEO in the last week since that's NOT how it was prior to this game being launched

I think the biggest reason I have been calling it NWO is because until recently Neverwinter google search brought up to many wrong links when Neverwinter Online returned pretty much the links I was looking for. But thats just me.
I always call it neverwinter online when I talk to people about it simply because if I just say neverwinter they ALWAYS think I am talking about neverwinter nights.
Yep, first page of results for that search concern this game. At least it does on my PC, which really isn't a surprise.
However, google individualises searches on the basis of previous searches (and probably other things as well) from the same PC.
So if someone is more often searching for NWN than they are Neverwinter (the 2013 MMO), they're more likely to get NWN results. But since I've mostly been searching for Neverwinter (the 2013 MMO), I get mostly Neverwinter (the 2013 MMO) results.
This game is Neverwinter. NWO is New World Order, NWN is Neverwinter Nights.

Most people link Neverwinter with NWN, and it would be a travesty to mistake a game as good as that for one as mediocre as this. The qualifier of "online" makes you assume reasonably that the MMO is being discussed.
Cryptic and PWE call the game Neverwinter or NW. Many players, perhaps even most, call it Neverwinter or NW. But the OP is incorrect in stating that it is only called Neverwinter or NW because some people do call it Neverwinter Online or NWO.
What someone calls something is only tied loosely to its official name. There are plenty of Davids out there called Dave regardless of what their birth certificate says.

Yeah but will you walk into Dave's house and start calling him David Online? He might get kinda weirded out about that.

Is David actually online ? Is he a gamer perhaps. Do people who know him end up calling him "Gamin' Dave" ? Is that what his parents named him ?
The point is that the OP is somewhat mistaken. Anything is called what people call it. In this case that includes, "Neverwinter Online, Neverwinter, NWO, NW, and many more."

Why would you call it Neverwinter? That would just make it associated with the offline PC version of the game. The game is online, so it is call Neverwinter Online, yes?

So you add 'Offline' to all offline games when you mention them?
Just going by your logic.
*facepalm*
Edit: and to make your statement even more ludicrous: the well-known game Neverwinter Nights can also be played online, so what do we call it? And did you know that there is also an old MMO named Neverwinter Nighs?

May I suggest some more appropriate names? "Have Nothing To Do With D&D Online" for instance. "Forget About Balance And Play DC/CW/TR Online". "Bugs And Glitches And Cryptic Don't Care Online? But I have to admit that last one is a little bit vague as well as "Broken PvP Online" and "Zero Customer Support" or "Support is Offline".
So you add 'Offline' to all offline games when you mention them?
If I were talking about a game with a similar name to a series of online games, maybe. Depends on how it flowed, language-wise.... "Neverwinter Online" has a familiar cadence to it (probably due to all the games with "_____ Online" names), so it feels very familiar.
Seriously, this silly thread arguing about picky little details of casual speech, ranks up there with the arguments about "It's not 'pst me' for whispering, pst stands for Please Send Tell.... Please Send Tell Me is bad grammar!" that happen between old-era EQ players and players in more modern games. (you know, the ones who weren't a part of Old MMO culture, but are from the modern era, where the command is frequently 'whisper', so 'pst' (which sounds like the noise you'd make getting someone's attention so you could whisper something to them) makes total sense.
Or complaints about "toon".
Gamer jargon & terminology rises out of the various shorthands & slang that just come up as people chat away in online places (in-game channels, forums, twitter, etc). It has little to do with "official", and - as with all slang - stuff that "just works" tends to get picked up and used by others.
So, yeah - NWO isn't going away just because a few nitpickers stamp their feet and say "But it's WRONG!" /shrug
Is there another game in existence or development that is actually officially called neverwinter online? If not then it really shouldn't matter if people call this game that even if it doesn't have the word online in its real title.

Just because it doesn't matter doesn't make it right, and there's simply no need to call it Anything but Neverwinter.
See the thing is I am not refuting the name is neverwinter, I am refuting that it is a big deal that people add on the descriptive 'online' so that it works better.

You're exactly right. If you just remember to keep the emphasis on "Never", you'll have a 'Winter. Thats how I remember.

If you find it hard to differentiate between NW and NWN then I don't see how NWO makes it any easier. At least NW is accurate.

'Neverwinter' is right and works just fine.
Refute that.

I'll get back to my NWO...
