i am not trolling... if you are color blind then not only this game is effected by that... Websites you visit, other games that dont have this feature( which i have never played one that had a color blind option.....) you would benefit from a color blind monitor in more ways then just this game... Its a good investment for your handicap.

your reading too much into it colour blindness dosnt effect me in any way shape just because I have a monitor dose not mean I can tell what the colour is I cant define colours I cant tell you this is this this is that because that's the way my brain works. so having a different tint mointer would mean I see things differently but would not be normal?? it honestly wouldn't help anyone in my situation dude seriously its that minor but all the games I have previous played have used colours perfectly so you are able to see everything your suppose to.

I'm really appalled that a community moderator could reply to this post comparing it to a car manufacturer physically changing the details of a car.

    Wow.

I really hope that is not how anyone actually involved with the development of this game thinks, that is so completely off-base and offensive it's not even funny. The manufacturing of a car is physical, and the changing of the pedals would impact how a car 'works' for everyone. Allowing a color change option would mean it only need impact the 1 person who changes it, and is a matter of some seriously minor programming. It is not the same as a physical pedal change, it's like adding something to a digital display on a GPS showing written directions instead of just voice directions for people with hearing impairments, if we're even putting this in the realm of vehicular issues.

It's like comparing a banana to a golf cart, the two don't even belong in the same paragraph.

It's so incredibly unprofessional and I'm extremely tolerant towards customer service folk, seeing as I deal with the public for a living - during that giant AD/AH fiasco I posted defending turtles 'eat hats' commentary among other things, so there is TONS I will brush off in regards to how public messages are phrased. Yikes though.

No one is saying that color blind people shouldn't have to take any steps on their end, but what about the previous gentlemen who outlined every step he had taken and still has issues regarding light spectrum? He did name specific areas, and was ignored completely by your response?

Where would one purchase a colorblind monitor? A google search is of no use. Amazon does not list them, the only thing I see is an article from 2007.

I didn't state anything stating players have to purchase something but merely suggested it would be beneficial to do so. Yes an option to change colors would only impact those who choose to change them but this is something that will take time to implement and in the mean time, to some extent, occurs in various instances on computers.

The developers will do what they can on their end but if there is hardware and software which people can use that would help them in all computer endeavors. I am not sure which areas you work in but I'm sure you have found people who refuse to accept that there are specialized companies who work to make everything to ease the life of every disability so my response has become to always direct them to the best solution: specialists.
There's no toxicity intended in that and if you find that offensive I am sorry.

Just understand I can't do anything past tell you the information required to make changes. Yes there was some specifics about Icespire Peak being an all-around issue but there were also comments saying all the lights in the game cause problems which is, while true, very non-descript.
The comments weren't ignored, I just can't respond past what would be helpful and what would solve the problem.

lol not to mention when the "industry" stopped selling new CRT monitors in retail stores, I myself have had problems finding new ones for less than $5,000, ones that have a max resolution size large enough to even play a game without a UI taking up over 150% of the screen (yes 150% the UI so packed in that it even covers itself)

I've been forced to use a LED monitor, though not as "photosensitive friendly" it at least shows a better screen at low gama then an LCD. (CRT showed a crisp image at very low gama, it gave me the feeling of being in the Twilight hours, of dusk and Dawn, witch is exactly what levels my eyes need to see the best)

I could imagine a "colorblind monitor also costing the equivalent of $5,000 or more, simply because it's a "medical grade" or "specialty" item.
    ___________

to be a bit "helpfull" and also this may work for my issues also... so I will look into it again.

maybe just maybe the colorblind can get a hand on a custom icc or "colorspace" file, a file that tells your graphics card what "ranges" of color to display. it marks where 100% value, 0% value, 100% red, 100% blue, and 100% green are located on the color wheel, so that it may display colors just a little or a lot difrent than other icc files.

those files are often used in image programs, graphics cards/monitor drivers, and printers/printer drivers.

(hopefully there is one that's sutable for me, and also one sutable for anyone here that is colorblind)
    ________

personally I would need to find one that shows the darker values in more detail, and higher in less detail.

    instead of----I would need
    0
    0
    10
    5
    20
    10
    30
    15
    40
    20
    50
    25
    60
    30
    70
    45
    80
    60
    90
    80
    100
    100

roughly on value scaling (previous searches, have only found an equal range from 0% to 100%, instead of a curve. but it has been a year or 2 since my last search on colorspace files)

It was only the comparison you made which I found offensive. No other portion of your post. The comparison I found offensive because it was both an unrealistic comparison, and because it was inapplicable in many ways. Comparing driving to a video game, comparing a paralyzed state to color blindness, and comparing physical modifications to virtual modifications, are the areas I found the comparison ineffective.

    Quotation -

People who are paralyzed don't demand car manufacturers to redesign cars to no longer have pedals to accommodate their disability. They buy a car from the manufacturer and bring it to a specialist to accommodate their needs.

The reason I find this doesn't apply is that the peripherals in a car required to make it work for paralyzed individuals are physical, and must be applied to each individual car. If they were applied to all cars, the changes to peripherals would change the driving experience for every car driver of that model/vehicle.

The peripherals for a video game however, to apply a color change mode or some other measure of accommodation even through the ability to edit the UI by using your own 'ring' graphic or custom UI's, would not impact people unless by choice, would be a reasonable accommodation, and would even be a beneficial 'feature' for many players - a lot of people would like to see more ability to change things like this. There are a vast amount of ways this could be accomplished, including allowing player UIs and allowing the community to build tools to assist these players ourselves, as well as many other tools wanted by the community in the process.

I find this issue much more comparable to something such as closed captioning on television programs then I do to the utilized example.

I do feel like a lot of stuff has been thrown around about color blind monitors, etc. These are not retail products, insurance will often not pay for these unless they pertain to employment functions. Color blindness does not usually make one eligible for disability or other forms of financial help, and outside of these options monitors for color blindness are EXTREMELY expensive and not feasible for most in this situation. If it is within reason, yes people should be trying to get a monitor for this disability, but it is also not an instant cure-all, especially not for video games. They are not designed with video games in mind. The price-tag of getting a monitor specially built for you is just insane.

What most color blind people do is utilize existing color blind 'modes' on regular monitors, which are helpful but again, not a band-aid for the problem. The best solution for color-blind gamers IS in fact to rely on the customization options within the game to make the experience smooth. I just have never played a game of this magnitude where there was no form of options available to change things in this manner.

    That is pretty horribly ignorant.

And yet here is a moderator suggesting that people buy products that don't exist to "help" themselves. Shameful.

I am partially sighted, I was relieved when I was able to play alright. In 2013, you would think they would have thought of that. So many countries are making it required for companies to address these issues - I hope they get it fixed for you soon.

to any having difficulty with the "colors/brightness"

this seems to ease my eyes even more "photosensitive" and a variation may help colorblind also.

I tweeked my graphics card settings, with it's normal color balance adjust... if you already have a card that can adjust just for 1 program, instead of all, then it may also work for you

my card allowed a seperate setting for red, blue , and green, in the catagories of "brightness", "contrast", "gamma", Digital Vibrance (satration)", and "image sharpening"

normaly I run all programs at 0.9 gamma and I'm fine, but for NW... maybe also for CO, but I have not gone in to test yet. I have it effected now by a 45% brightness, 55% contrast, 0.9 gamma, +14% vibrance, +14% sharpness.

not only can I see better with that setting in NW, but I actually think NW's lag is less.
    _______

note I'm photo-sensitive, so I had to make the "white" more different from, a single color, or mid-gray.

I'm assuming that adjusting just the red down, and other colors up, or red up and other colors down may help the red colorblind (not a medical person, so I'm just assuming it may help, if your video card has the capabilities, to separate the settings based on the red/blue/green, individually, then it may be worth a try... but don't go buying a card if you don't already have one)

the idea, and how I decided on my "semi-fix, is for me the reason I can't see "white" well, is in my eyes, a white light "shines" over into bordering colors/areas, and also "blends into them, so it's not a "white" any more it's simply a lighter area, that's blended so good, that it seems to be natural for that area (unless like in a different post, where I mentioned, I can normally spot those, by a camera tilt, and looking for "shadows" that vanish... because the shadow would "blend" into that white, if my view gets the 2 beside each other (like how some can't see a blue next to a green... they "blended")
    ___________

hope this is at least helpfull, I know my ability to see is better... not as good as most games/programs, still, but better than it was a day ago.

why couldn't they add a three dimensional option to the red circles so that they rise slightly..and emit some type of 3d particle that would show where the circles were as well.(like the prayer circle for example)

would that help?(not color blind here)

I am also Red/Green colour blind. I do see the red circles though. I do understand the problem though. In a game like Planeside 2 I could not determine the enemy from my team till they started a Colour Blind Mode, this was a choose your own colour thing. You choose your own colours for; same team, squad, Enemy team1, Enemy team 2 etc...

Choosing your own colours will be great for red circles, the long oblong area attack and maybe even party names (for gaunt), Guild and maybe even race for roleplaying.

It's not only the red circles that are a pain to see, the countdown meters at the bottom are a bit "shiny" too.

    Anyway, it's not Red/Green deficient, it's Blue enhanced :p

Adding a texture to the red danger zones would be the quickest fix I think until they can go in and add a real colorbind mode and fix some other things that need to go with it.

Like all the settings for choice of color for various text in this game, the red zones
should allow a few options. Some colors might show up better in different dungeons,
but that should be easy for people to learn and preset the next time they go in.
