I see so many complaining over the queue system, that makes me wonder what happend to the time where you actually made friends to bring along to a dungeon or use the chat to look for group.
To me the queue system is a great future but it feels like it downgrades the socialism in this kind of games, i find it very boring to get put into a group where nobody bother to reply to a "hello" and if the group goes to hell they will take the time to write rude remarks.
I'm just trying to make a point that it's perfectly possible to play the game without relying on the queue!
Let's face it, and excuse me pwe employee's but it has to be said, the current queue system is comparable to the time it takes to get a reply on a ticket, TO DARN LONG.

The automatic queue system for PvE requires a balanced group which ideally includes one of each class tank, healer, dps, dps and dps. However there are far more dps than tanks and healers even with the ratio being 3:2. The simplest solution for you would be to create a cleric healer and get instant queued for dungeons...

People spent 1+ hours spamming the chat channels looking for groups, and sometimes even getting one for their entire evening of play. (Yes, this is from experience. Vanilla WoW was like that. As were other games.)
Make friends? Pfft... No. You spammed chat channels. In our day we were lucky if we had 3 different ones: Global, zone, local, and trade... And players could not use global... People would get tired of waiting after an hour or so and would soon spam every channel they had access to... It was supremely rare to find other players who were friendly and I can recall many a flame war started on chat which caused the hand of the game moderators to swat people on chat...
I don't really miss the crudely drawn ascii phallus 'chat' though... Then again the first thing I did in NWO was turn off zone... Maybe they still do happen?
Anyways... Next came the 'lfg' flags, you could set yourself as looking for group and players could scan through everyone so listed. That lead to tons of tells to find out people were not generally looking for groups or not your group or not for that quest/challenge... Barely helped at all...
Then came queuing... And people were still not happy because these random groups often sucked... So... yeah...
Lol, Anyone remember vanilla EQ1 waiting to get into a treant group in South Karana?? I remember killing centaurs for 6 hours one day waiting to get into one.
I think I remember way back when you would have to ask if anyone was camping a NPC that dropped an item that people wanted and you would have to get into a party queue... Man that's going WAY back
This is so true. If only the MMO community was still like EQ1 days. They were by far my favorite MMO days of all time. I would give anything to be able to play in that community again. BTW, i played on Tallon Zek since day one heh.
Edit: Spelling
Wasnt that Fires of Heaven or whatever? i was in the only Dark only guild left on Tallon just before X'teaming was rampant. We were also the only single faction guild to ever drop post buff Innoruuk and Cazic Thule, Exordium.
Now? Assuming you waited 45 minutes to get in a dungeon or skirmish queue, you kill a bunch of stuff silently. Once it's over everyone immediately leaves the group without a word to enter another 45 minute queue.
Instant adventure has its perks, but it really has gotten rid of the need to socialize and maybe make friends. The best thing to do if you want to avoid queues and silent strangers is to join an active, friendly guild.
I do miss the old days of camping Blackburrow, Guk, or the Estate of Unrest. CHOOO CHOOOO TRAAAAAAAAAAAAIIINNNNNNN!!!
Average gamer age has grown a lot, when played first multiplayer games i was at school and playing games was natural past time. But after you grow older people change and not many of those same people still play games, not to mention MMO's that are time sinks. I think its logical step for companys to cater to adult players that cant dedicate so much time or lack of (friends). Also this game is a bit in weird spot atm as biggest content is 5 player, while theres guilds. I always associate guilds to a bit bigger communitys and if this game has actual raiding, i would gladly look for guild.
If you are too lazy to /zone Hey guys wanna form a group? , then you deserve to wait 45 mins i'm sorry.
Like Bungie says: 'We make games we want to play'
You joined a guild. A good guild would run guild groups often and you'd hop in with voice chat and shoot the bull while killing bad guys.
Sure, you advertise for PuGs, but generally if you really wanted a PuG, you needed to put it together yourself and often times you'd meet good players that you would group with regularly. But the big thing is, you'd know what dungeon you were going into and could organize the group appropriately.
With the queue system, it's hit or miss. I can't tell you how many chests I've missed out on because we sat in the dungeon, waiting for a healer with the leader just dropping people without a word to make room. And how many times I've been dropped without fan fare.
The queue system is evil. Let's kill it! What does Sgt Knox say?
Oh, and god beware you werent the right class, then youre effectively screwed for good.
For example, playing a Stealther in Dark Age of Camelot effectively ruled you out for any kind of PvE.
No no, queues are actually a vast improvement to the old times. And thats coming form soneone with a 15 year history in onlinegaming.
