They're being removed on 5/30, Cryptic has been quite transparent on this, as well as everything else.

    No, they haven't.

Originally it was 4/30. Then it was 5/7. Then it was 5/30. (BTW, it used to clearly say 5/30 at the top of this forum, then that was taken down.)

This is the opposite of transparency.

But heck, you still think this is open beta. So in your world this probably passes as "transparency."
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev

I once made that mistake when trying to create a graphic for a client. Clearly i'm not a graphic designer :)

Client: this logo needs to be opaque!

Me: spends half an hour with gimp making it transparent...

OMG, So they did closed beta... and skipped the open beta? How sneaky! Yeah, I doubt they accidentally placed the Live sing instead of Open Beta one! And dammit, it sure bothers me that we spend money not by our own will, but they force us to pay or we won't get to play even a little bit! We all are weak willed people who when asked to buy something, will buy it! And what is taking them so long to fix bugs? They gone live 2 weeks ago, plenty of time to fix all the bugs, add new content and release new classes!

left that site immediately because cartoon <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> offends me. Find me an article that isn't on a site intended for 12 year old horn dogs and maybe I'll read it

i clicked on that link, i'm a member of that website from several years and never seen <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> in it!

Seems you got some nasty adds on, you might consider using: http://adblockplus.org/en/firefox

    Helps alot, either you're a kid or a grown-up adult ;)
You will never ever see adds on any part of the web.

The term "open beta" no longer means what it once did. Many companies use "open beta" as a soft launch of the game, allowing people to make permanent characters, buy at the cash shop, etc, while maintaining the "it's still beta" defense to fend off complaints of unfinished content, bugs, exploits, etc.

So yes, the game IS technically "open beta". But "beta" no longer means what it once did. The game is in a state of what's referred to as "soft launch". For all intents and purposes, the game is live. What will change between "open beta" and "official launch" is bug-fixes (which happen even after "live"), exploit fixing (same), and adding content (same). The difference between "open beta" and "officially launched" is virtually nil at this point.

ugh... tried reading it again, because I actually consider what beaghan1 says to be smart.... But I can't. I get too discouraged. I open the page, see the half-<font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>, and that site just loses all credibility to me. Sorry, I must be too old or something....

Hate to bust your bubble, but half the people you play the game with are secretly touching themselves whenever you chat in game. Maybe even now watching you squirm over it in the forums. Its sweaty in certain parts of the world, and the things you type go through many servers, encryption being irrelevant- someone IS eyeing a twinkie lovingly every time you type, I guarantee it.

Alot of the games you love are seeded with developers/support/artists who spend their nights getting ideas for armor from convention photographs, and some even go to those conventions just to accidentally brush up against the cosplayer's boobehs.

Youre over reacting or, not reacting enough because its been going on around you for as long as youve been on the internet.

    Half <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>...?

I see an ad for Ragnarok II showing banners and a flaming tower. A picture of Dr. Evil. And a cartoon pic of the writer Bill Murphy.

I can't see anything offensive. Are you sure this 'half <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>' isn't a targeted ad based on your previous browsing history?

Wait, what??? Since when was MMORPG.com "a site intended for 12-year old horndogs," & what "cartoon <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>" was there? I didn't see anything even half-clothed, let alone "pornographic." Methinks you clicked on the wrong link or something.

I think it would be unfair of me to enter that competition ;). Mine is pretty **** good, not that it's even a proper job. I've been retired from actual work for 5 years. now I do excellent stuff with awesome people on fantastic machines, then drink beer and talk about doing it all again the next day ;) ( the clue is in my avatar ;))

Definitely not me. I'm a billing/accounts receivable specialist for a medical clinic. Not bad, but not great. :) I DO get to log on and chat on forums from work, though, so it's not all bad!

The hentai <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> on the left. That **** makes me sick. And you're talking to someone who goes to piratebay and other torrent sites daily and sees the "Meet women from China" and "Better than Craigslist!" ads.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a disgusting human being in real life. I do **** to my wife that's probably illegal in some states. But that hentai BS just screams "amateur website here" and just makes them lose all credibility. To me, at least. But hey, to each their own. If you guys like cartoon <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>, so be it.

I, along with most adults, don't take any of the sites that host those kinds of things seriously.

A large majority of the bugs/exploits would be squashed.

The shards would be gone, and we would have the same 'mega-server' model as the rest of PWE games

I could even envision the addition of some kind of 'sub' model or maybe a one-time purchase for non-Ob players.

I love this, it's the cutest form of fanboism. It's where you imagine that the companies goals align with your fantasies. Show me where the developers have stated this or it means nothing.

You say it's beta on the sole evidence that the developers have labeled it that ignoring all other aspects such as the fact that transactions are final, real money is being exchanged and there will be no wipes. From a players perspective there will be no difference between the so-called "open beta" period and when the game is "live." These are just arbitrary titles that are applied by the developer and defending them can only be called fanboism.

The term beta has lost its meaning anyway. It used to refer to a phase of development that was usually done internally. Marketing departments got a hold of it and butchered it so it's basically a meaningless word now. You can call it what you want but it doesn't change the facts. There is no magical transition from beta to live that makes things better. "Open beta" is not a legitimate excuse for a sub-standard product and saying that all cash spent is "voluntary" purchases is meaningless as that's true of all forms of entertainment.

So, I don't know what you were trying to prove with this thread, but all you succeeded in proving is that you're an apologetic fanboy.

I'm a fan of Forgotten Realms lore. I'm a fan of Action RPGs.

I'm tired of hearing all of you say "This isn't an open beta!" When other games are in the exact same stage, and no one ever says that about those games.

I made a thread simply to point it out, that many games are doing the exact same thing, and don't get a fraction of the hate for it that PWE gets. In fact, GGG gets PRAISED daily for it. Its hypocritical, and it needs to stop.

If that makes me a fanboy, so be it! But I'm more like a fanman

I see a cartoon chick thats half naked and intended to give a hard-on to kids who probably can't get them in the first place.

Therefore, I close the browser and move on with my life.

I get it though, you people have been shown things like that so often that you are desensitized to it, I understand. In my opinion, it screams bad taste, and I wont take anything from that site seriously because of it.

What makes you think they don't get a fraction of the hate? Every video game community that I've been in that has pulled this stunt has exactly this kind of thread because as that article on the first page of this thread points out, it's just a stunt to try to shield themselves from being held accountable for problems with the game.

The fact that a bunch of other companies and games have done this doesn't make a case for you, it just shows that there are other offenders. And they pretty much all get hit with people calling them on this.

If you label Ragnarok 2 as <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>, you have failed at the internet. Please, go look at some Tera or Rift ad's. Or Tomb Raider ad's, for that matter.

Or, if you're feeling really brave, some actual <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>.

Last I checked we're in the 21st century, in a world where everyone who has access to the internet has instant access to the most depraved and nonsensical amounts of fetish ever available.

Oh, but you're just trolling right? I'm betting your desktop background is of a naked chick banging a lamp post.

Wait wait I'm sorry but you call that cartoon <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>?! You do realize that is the art/character style of ragnarok online(a game thats been around since before WOW) Just how ignorant are you?!
Maybe you need to goto disneyporn.com and then go back to mmorpg.com and ask yourself if they look similar.

You did not even bother to read the article that was actually very well written and makes some solid arguments. Way to judge a book by its cover because you have a cartoon character phobia.

I think the difference is the fact that no items in Path of Exile or Dota 2 give you an advantage making you better than other players.
