Why can't I hide my shirt/pants?

Seriously. All this armor seems to be designed to give a bit of eye candy (not quite bikini armor, but some skin is showing), yet it's all hidden by ugly chain mail. We can hide helms and capes, why not shirts/pants?

No. If you want to run around like a 12 year old naked HAMSTER Rift is the game you're looking for.

Um, 12 year old kids aren't the only ones who like to see some skin.

I agree with him, the shirt and pants are more social clothes than anything. We should have the option to hide them. They are ugly.

Because it reinforces the male power fantasy/sexual fantasy dichotomy without offering the reverse.

If you want to take it off, you can. You'll only lose a -little- defense.

There are outfits i'd prefer to hide it on, mostly because if i don't dye them they can clash pretty badly. For me it's not that i'm wanting to show skin, but having options with how i want to make my character look. I'd also like shirts and pants that look different too, seems that no matter which i've gotten, they all look the same, and i might like a shirt that covers my belly to get a different look.

You mean run around like an adventurer from many of the official D&D artwork over the past several decades.

(Also, honestly, except for the lack of pants on the lower level armor, and perhaps that orc suit from Tower District, nothing I've seen comes close to Aion/TERA/etc when you take off the shirt & pants.)

edit: and I don't mind giving up a handful of stats for appearance' sake. The only thing that annoys me is that the outfits don't look right/don't look the same as on the NPCs. A female guard with the low-cut plate armor doesn't show the standard bra, while a PC does. And apparently this also carries over to everything, including the Courtesan Outfit ($$$ fashion item), which kind of ruins the look entirely. Sucks for people who paid cash for that. (Also means that if they, for instance, gave us Alias' chainmail from Azure Bonds, it wouldn't look correct either.)

I love that this game don't show off so much skin, im honestly tired of all these moos being "sexual" about appearance.
This game is so far decent in my opinion!

If you want to see skin, go to scarlet blade that has advertisements such as "she has no safe word" etc.
That mmo is for you guys, in there you can play your female character and have fun, or back to rift or your cartoon wow and undress your little midgets.
    *sarcasm*

    But BACK OFF from NW.

Please NW don't fall in to this ugly trend, it's just sad and out-dated by now.

Honestly, shirts and pants give very small stat increases, you could probably remove them and never notice. Some armors look nicer without the shirt for instance. The sleeves are awkward until you get gloves imo.

But I too am glad this game went with more conservative armor designs. I played Scarlet Blade and Tera and liked both (though SB ruins it for me with mandatory PVP). But its nice to see women wearing the same cool armor men get.

This might sound harsh, but if all of the character models didn't look like generic HAMSTER (males especially) I wouldn't feel the need to pick a female character. I should be able to look how I WANT, not how you think I should be able to look. There is nothing wrong with wanting to enjoy your character, and to be honest it isn't hurting anyone else even if I choose to run around in absolutely nothing but the forced bra+panties. Get over yourselves.

Again, for people that seem to dislike more options in mmos. All I am asking is for the option to hide them, much like cloaks or helms.

Why in god's name would you be against this when you CAN RUN AROUND NAKED AND GET FULL STATS FROM ARMOR.

Ugly is the underwear being bigger than the armor. :p At least make the cutout armors have a bra smaller than the bikini section so the bra doesn't hang out under the top. A shirt under cups looks better than the ace bandage bra hanging out around it. NPCs don't have that so it's not about showing skin. It's an oversight or something and your underwear doesn't hide. About the shirt? If you want skin IRL, you take it off. Why not here? Stats or skin sounds like a good trade to me... but your bra will still be hanging out.

SB is top perversion i think, and the characters look to be under age from pictures (not played it), makes it even more creepy to see how those trends are developing.
    I'm scared for MMO's

How did we get to naked female character from playing RPG board games at home with our fan-made outfits ;/
Where did the devs lost it all and caved in to sex rather then content? aww this poor world.

But yea content before stupid sex appeal for minors to abuse.
And this game still have much more important work to finish then adding sex appeal into the game.
And once they do it more then what it currently is, I'm out.
Sorry but I'm not gonna waste time in a game with horny teenage males looking for free items, just not fun. and in my mind makes a game scream for attention as at last cry to keep people playing their games.

*pours salt on his tongue* URK!

-"look how sexy i am" says the female boy to the to the other boy "ola la la"..... just a heads up, if your new in the mmo world.

nice nice, but I rather see you 2 date in real life then play pretend among adults wanting to play games and relax from real life, we are spammed enough with sex appeal all day long believe it or not.

Because people just like to disagree with any post that is even remotely related to some pet peeve they have, rational thought has little to do with it.

At any rate, I agree that the shirts and pants should be able to be hidden.

I'm all for more customization options, but I have to admit, I'm also for letting others endure the inverse of what I've had to put up with in MMOs for nearly a decade now, with most games offering double-standard armor that's sexed up on females whilst considerably more sensible on males.

Stats are forcing you to have a frumpy-looking character rather than getting your "eye candy"? Sucks, doesn't it? Some of us didn't much care for ten years of stats forcing our characters to look like battle strippers. Turnabout is fair play and all that. ;)

We maybe have no desire to watch naked pixel graphics on a screen? simple enough answer or should i expand a bit.

its not about being against options in the game either, just tired of the nudity in all mass produced asian mmos, so we don't need a hyped up game like this one to convert to it either, its just said.

and no i don't need to get over my self, RPG's are meant to be a world be imaginable and fun and take you out of real life and experience a fun world and exiting adventure, not about looking at nude characters, there are plenty porno games and the game SB for you that can do that, please use Google and stop try destroy old decent old school players fun in games, just cause some asian mmo devs noticed if they show more, people open wallets and pays to play their games even if there is no content and younger generation more then often buys into those stuff.

i mean its a fact, just look at wow, players in there say all time "i play female cause i want something nice to look at while i play"
referring to often a draenis behind.

    Sad.

    There I'm done.

Um..... how does somewhat revealing armor (in the completely Western Fantasy/D&D style) have anything to do with a rant about Asian MMO, nudity, and porno?

    Oh, and....
RPG's are meant to be a world be imaginable and fun and take you out of real life and experience a fun world and exiting adventure,

Yep, that's exactly what some of the people here are talking about. Out of real life, fun world, exciting adventure.... you know, like (for example) Xena! Omg, she had bare shoulders & thighs, and you could see some cleavage. Clearly we are looking at nude character porno. (yes, sarcasm)

I'm female and I would actually like to have a hide option because the shirts and pants clash. What we really need is diverse options to make both sides happy. Although there will always be someone complaining. But in general everything looks the same; we need more options. For now I'm hiding everything under the courtesan outfit.

If you havent noticed it, but tons more western games are now over doing the nudity parts after all asian mmos that are being mas produced have come out.
Prono and the game SB just goes together pretty good, or maybe your one of the lucky once that haven't seen their advertisements.
    *giggles*

And yes Xena is a childhood favourite of mine as well, but I never seen her wearing a thong and micro-bikini, now did we?
well she had armor on her and yes her HAMSTER was part of her sex appeal, but she was covert up most of the time and not in a thong or string trying to hump another pixelated character.

The first thing I do when I make a character in this game, is take either the shirt or pants off, or maybe both
It just looks better most of the time, although I admit the plate shirt/pants does look good sometimes

On my defender, I have the shirt off and pants on, and I just keep them in my inventory if I want to change the look

As for games like Tera, I really like the armor designs, even though everyone says they're too revealing,
I think they look nice ascetically speaking
For the magician classes, you can actually get a 40s style dress,
and make your character have a bob and heavier makeup, so she looks like she's from that time,
and that's just an example, it's actually rather interesting what you can do with the basic armors

I wish the leather and some of the cloth armors in NWO had the same kind of ascetically appealing look,
    but the scale and plate do look somewhat better here in NWO, than they do in Tera, though;
as in the plate actually looks like plate, shiny and all

That's the thing though, YOU are the one that chooses to take offense to how other people enjoy their game. Your opinion matters just as much as the next person's opinion. If the "We" in your first sentence were an actual reflection of the majority opinion, then you would have the power to pressure Cryptic into doing what you think is acceptable.
It is simply your own shortcoming that you choose to enter a world with so many other players, all with different ideas of enjoyment, and tell them that they are wrong. So again, Get over yourself.

No, but until that one poster brought up Scarlet Blade, we weren't talking about that. The thread topic is hiding the shirt in this game. Which, depending on the armor you're wearing over it, can give you results somewhat similar to Xena or many of the old standard D&D art.

(although, thinking about it.... some of the Drow spider priestess/Lolth artwork came pretty close to bikinis. I'm remembering some of the old SSI "gold box" D&D games, like Pools of Darkness, or Dark Queen of Krynn. Wow, it's been a long time since I played those. :D)

edit: and yeah, Scarlet Blade is more than a bit over the top. Also has a cash shop that makes the one here look like a free raffle at the flea market.

edit2: And like I said earlier, I'm perfectly willing to make the trade-off they've given us, giving up the minor stats on the shirt for appearence's sake. I'd certainly like "disable visuals" to be enabled on some of the other equipment slots, though - like arms. Some of those arm visuals (on my CW, for instance) just look odd.

I wouldn't mind being able to hide the shirt/pants because they aren't appealing and don't look good with my armour.

That this has managed to turn into a debate about sexism... really? If a moderately revealing outfit- that is far better than most games- not having a shirt under it is making women into objects in your mind, perhaps its time for you to take a look at what's happening in reality.

This is nothing compared to what advertisements, tv shows and young pop stars are putting in front of us on a daily basis, so to pretend that this game is the thing we need to censor- just boggles my mind.

What I see here is a lot of people who really don't understand how social and media reinforcement work. People who don't realize that making female characters into sexual objects can be harmful to female players. The most common explanation is through something called Micro-Aggression. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microaggression

Basically it's that your minor act of sexism doesn't seem harmful because you think of it as a lone event of sexism. But to the women around you it is just one example of MANY examples they will come across in their day to day life. Sure you're "Only" sexually objectifying one character in the game. But that action does not happen within a social vacuum. Other people will also be right there with you, as you can see from this thread, presenting their female characters as sexual objects, as well.

It's unfair at -best- to present female characters as sexual objects without also presenting male characters as sexual objects. And a bare chested muscle man is a -power- fantasy, not a sexual one. If things were equal, with both male and female characters being presented equally as power and sexual fantasies this wouldn't be an issue. But they aren't anywhere near to equal.

So please. Don't try to tip the scales further in catering to men for the purposes of fantasy. I'd like to play a strong female character who fights on the front lines next to her male compatriots without being bombarded with your sexual fantasies. Let me have my Power Fantasy and you can have yours.

I'm sorry you don't understand what science has in fact proven multiple times. I'll let you know, since you missed the info-bus apparently. Males are visual creatures. Not to say that women don't appreciate a nice looking guy, but there is a reason there are thousands of strip clubs in most major cities, and chippendale style male clubs are few and far between.

So because Males are visual creatures Females should be reduced to Sexual Fantasies but Males shouldn't? Why not have both Male and Female POWER Fantasies and no sexual fantasies for either? That would be fair.

If you want to enjoy a good wholesome life- try Church, and stop ruining games with your censorship bs.

There have been thousands of forum posts about sexist armor designs in MMORPGs (largely because hey, it's a big issue), and within those thousands of posts, there have been thousands of replies of the "don't be a prude, don't censor my game, take your overly PC attitudes elsewhere" variety, and they remain the same strawman attack they've always been.

No, there is not a group of stuffy old grannies that wants to take your pixel HAMSTER away and force you to enjoy wholesome entertainment. The issue is and always has been equality. Sexed-up costumes on women should be sexed-up costumes on men. Sensible armor on men should be sensible armor on women. That's why players (men and women) get irked.

When a good portion of items are designed to empower males and objectify females, that is sexism, and when the original poster is talking about "eye candy", it's quite pertinent to the discussion whether you like it or not.
