It is 2013 and we still have discussions about ninja looting - items that are class specific being taken by someone who cannot use it is quite ridiculous.
Bring on loot tables for the individual rather than group.

Unfortunately, it is full of people with no brain that sees blue and purple and Need on everything, like the cleric who push need on rogue item. But perhaps the problem is not to go to pug anymore...

Precisely. The downside to playing with randoms is that they are of unknown behavior and quality. If you aren't running pickup groups for kicks and giggles, only, then don't bother running pickup groups. Too much drama if you're not doing it to laugh at strangers.

Dollar, dollar, bill, yo. Cash rules everything around you and me.
They should just put in a system where class specific gear goes to that class first by giving them a bonus on need rolls only that would solve it as they can't roll less than any other class so they get the gear they need first and the people who are going to seel/vendor it can wait till its not needed by someone.I am also sick of people say do not run with pickup groups, some people need to run with them due to the fact the do not have enough friends or are not in a guild.

I agree that players who need loot deserve priority. This also has to be balanced with the fact that players who do not need an item ,but happen to be the class required should no be able to roll the item for sale.. Also many players will not upgrade with expensive gear rather they will sell it and wear the greens because they will level fast..The best way to balance all of these aspects is to remove every option and force players to roll only need basically for everything, If you can trust players with rolls you can trust them to divide loot .
If warrior rolls and wins clerics item then cleric wins wizards item and wizard wins warriors item, the action house will sort it all out.
In DnD most players were mercenary or ran with a company of people they trust. No matter what tho they agreed on loot ahead of time. If a player steps outside agreed loot rules removed them.

The solution is to automate the roll rather than pop up a dialog box while I'm fighting stuff.
And Need for the current companion is perfectly legit. Your companion is part of your character.
So if the item is for your class, or for your active companion, it's need. Otherwise it's greed. Just automate the roll.
Companions contribute a small factor in dungeons. Also, needing over actual classes needing the items for real is being a ninja.
My vote for disabling needing on non-class items, period. Why would a CW want a priest drop? Healer companion? good one. You frankly do not NEED to gear your companions in dungeon loot, so stop being unfair toward people who actually want to gear their main character. Besides, more often than not I'm seeing people who need on literally everything that drops so they can sell it for AD. This needs to be fixed.
i only had one guy roll on something class specific and that was cus it was blue and he didn't see the class restriction. a polite comment, and he traded it to the cleric.
mabye its cus the game is fresh ppl trying to sell for a premium on auction? in that case if your pugging just put it to round robbin sell the stuff you get not for your class and buy what you need. if your a GWF and you get a TR weapon you'll probably make a profit.
Rift implemented a good Need/Greed system, where Need was grayed out if it wasn't usable by your class, so you could only greed. I tend to greed on everything that my class can't use.
Automated roll or disabling need option for non class loot are both good solutions to that problem
Exactly. I would like to hear some mod. I'm tired of wasting time in a dungeon with morons ninjalooters that push need on everything.

use leader assigned for blues and above? people ninjaing stuff should be kicked from group asap and put on /ignore. not going to pugs will destroy community, its something we should avoid.

And i am tired of melee`s who loot every treasure chest because they simply are 10 steps ahead of the cleric. I push need sometimes to make up for that.
Fairness is no one way road. If you want that, you have to give it too.

Instanced Loot (Drop per player, other players can't see your drops) like in Hellgate: London (before shutdown), Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2 or Torchlight 2. Problem solved.

please do this, it is becoming a nightmare the amount of ninjas here.
for the sake of the community do that need/greed lock to class.

It's actually worse than that. People often act prickly in pugs because there is not immediate 'repercussion'.

There's got to be a better way to roll for loot than while we are all in combat. It's insane when there's so much action going on and we're getting bombarded with windows. I imagine this is especially difficult for Clerics as they are trying to keep an eye on who needs healing.
perhaps to set up the loot rules prior to starting the event? Or maybe at rest areas and end of event to do loot rolls?

in what mmo world does this even make any sense:
i was doing my 1st T1 ( i am a tank - guardian fighter ) and here comes the dude/girl ( control wizard ) , after last boss it drops T1 epic boots for guardian fighter.
i was not worried since the mmos i been playing i would not any trouble getting the item since i was the only tank.
then i notice ... OMG the control wizard won the roll for my boots??? did i push greed by mistake?? nop, i scrolled up, he/she needed 84 on TANK boots wile the tank ( me ) was absolutely :O no this is not normal.
Thats the meaning of the word NEED ( he/she didn't need it ) ; GREED ( yes you can greed, greedy to sell, alts e.t.c ) that is called GREED. why in the world do they have the option to NEED a tank item?
i talked to the dude/girl. no response, and yes .. best part after 5 mins it was on the auction house with his name selling.
this is really bad system. it doesn't make ANY kind of little sense. not even 0.01 % sense.
I LOVE THIS GAME btw. this is the only thing i have to point my finger at
i7 3770k @ 4.0//HD 7950 WF3//16 GB ram Corsair @ 1600//Corsair 120 GB SSD x 2//Hyper Evo 212
Ironically, the system works beautifully if everyone rolls need and uses the auction house to sort things out, but that's regarded as "evil" for some reason.
Strangely, there are other systems of loot distribution out there that guarantee more equitable, more optimal, and more drama-free results (at least one of which was pioneered by Cryptic, no less), but everyone would rather "fix" the current system.
And sinisterly (is that a word?), Cryptic/PWE may actually benefit from allowing off-class need rolls. CCU ("concurrent users") and repetition are everything to an MMO, and showing people that they lost out on good gear seems to keep them coming back for more... Makes me wonder if PWE has a former Vegas casino manager on staff.

The best way to avoid this would be like in WoW where if you roll need the item is bound to you. No point in ninja.
And since there is no disenchanting here even less.
This is aint even funny. Today some dude just waited till we greeded violet weapon for our CW, then pressed need and got his item, because there was only CW and him when system shared item, then left party just before final boss. Even though party was random, we all tried to share items and got nothing instead. This roll system is just a HAMSTER. Why not to give an option to party leader to set mode "wearer rolls"?

I found out that Guardian Fighters in random groups are often (always?) the party leader. I am a GF player. I could exploit it and set to "Party Leader decides loot distribution" but do I do that? Nope. I am a honest player.
The most easy way to fix loot drama is lowering drop rates to 20% as of now and make loot individualized (What you see is what you get, nobody else sees what is yours).
I have a 30, 28 and 20 and in 40+ instance runs the only blues I've looted are from chests. I've lost every need on blues and 90% of the time to classes that can't use it.
This needs to be fixed ASAP.
I spend all day reading every thread and letting people know this is BETA.

I shouldn't have to not run something because of what other people might due. PUGs suck yes but sometimes necessary. It seems to make more sense for the devs to put in loot rules rather then me not do any PUGs. Why should i miss out on daily dungeons and a fair chance at loot that I can use because they didn't implement rules into the program to keep people from rolling need when they cant even use the item?

I also think a class based loot table when those "Class specific Items" show up should be implemented.
The best way to avoid this would be like in WoW where if you roll need the item is bound to you. No point in ninja.
