Cryptic,
I hope you guys didn't get too discouraged by looking at these forums. This isn't your first launch, so you should be used to all this flaming by now
I know you are doing everything in your power to fix the game and are actually communicating with your player base via the forums, which is simply amazing.
The last MMOG launch I took part in was terrible by comparison. Defiance - Ugh... Not only did they have much worse launch issues, but they also deleted valid complaint threads on the official forums! Moreover, they ignored their players when asked for explanation on the abundance of hackers in the game (they mistakenly put a lot of attributes client side, with no good checks in place to detect hacks).
I won't bore you with the rest of the story. If you want to know more, simply take a look at this
Steam Guide and
Reddit post for more info.
Now take a look at their forum, not a single developer addressed the
concerns of HUNDREDS of posters.
Defiance the MMOG complaints aside, the
TV show it's tied to is simply amazing so far and as soon as I finished watching the pilot, I sensed something, a presence I've not felt since... (Lol sorry, couldn't help it).
What is especially funny is the amount of people throwing WoW's launch around. As someone that has been there from the start (and I still come back to clear end game content and do a bit of Arena), I can tell you that it was plagued with countless issues, including downtime and XP exploits.
What I am getting at here is that this launch is pretty smooth, and Cryptic does a nice job of ACTUALLY COMMUNICATING with its player base and fixing things.
Now I am not saying everything is perfect! So don't start your flaming yet.
I liked that you guys fixed the Leadership XP exploit post haste, but many bugs still remain.
The purple HotN
Panther is outdamaged (and outplayed) by a white Men-at-Arms, and the GF threat generation really needs to be looked at.
We also need more classes and Paragon paths (and free respecs once these paths come out), but other than that - this is a pretty darn smooth launch.
So thank you Cryptic for all your hard work, dedication, and communication. Keep it up, and I will keep supporting you with obscene Zen purchases
Comments
Wish the game was a bit more D&D, but oh well. It's shiny, its new, and I'm playing.
Going to watch Defiance now. Saw a few minutes and it piqued my interest.
You get bag space by completing quests.
As for the respecs, I kind of like it being pay to respec. It makes your choices have more impact.
I do think that everyone should be given a respec token any time one of their character reaches 50.
Its way more tanky then the other strikers , which I like .
But does yours actually attack? My hubby bought the founder pack and hates his. I don't see it attack, and when it does - the thing it attacks has already died. Then it starts the process all over again.
The linked thread has 10 pages of comments on how terrible the Panther is.
If it tanks, great. Give it a taunt and make it like the Golem that my husband is using now. Then he will give me the Panther :-). Right now, I don't even want it because my free companion is much better.
As an avid RPG gamer (dice and paper D&D), I have been around playing PC games since we used actual floppy disks lol. Yes I was there for WoW beta and launch, which was extremely worse in so many ways than this. But who cares, other than whiners?
Cryptic is a professional company, with much experience under its belt with running and launching MMOs. It really shows through on this game, I was completely blown away by how quickly on launch day the team had the servers down and back up again to fix the in-game lag problems. Then the following day, by the time I get home this evening and log in I am greeted with absolutely zero que time! Also very important to note is how the devs have posted in stages WHILE they are fixing problems, keeping everyone updated as they get the information themselves is a-maz-ing! All of this instant-gratification for us gamers within the first day! That is extremely few and far between to find in this industry, and I am finally glad to see a team back a game with as much devotion as they invested in creating it.
Thanks for this fun game, I'm excited to see it grow from here and to be a part of something truly special in this day and age of gaming.

B. Players on Dragon have been unable to queue for any instance since the server came up today, making progression impossible for anyone who wants the titles. I was able to get one or two levels on a couple of my characters, but any more and I can't queue and I miss out on the title forever.
A. Defiance had a terrible launch with a lot of downtime and multiple rollbacks.
B. What title will you miss out on forever?
It was never down when I wanted to play that I can remember, and I was never rolled back.
Hero of Blacklake on two characters, and the Tower district title on two characters, which I can't remember ATM but I want to say Arrower or something weird like that. Both require the skirmishes in those level ranges.

Titles require you do the skirms? That's terrible. I didn't know that. That is very lame since the skirms are level locked.
Check the defiance forums. I lost over 600 EGO levels myself.
The Dire Crow - Tiefling TR
Alice L'ddell - Human GF

Really? I played STO for a bit while waiting for this to come back up.
Really? CoH was pretty crappy from what I recall, and STO was the best. CO had it's fair share of issues too.
Yes its better than the Defiance Launch, but Korea nuking us would still be a better launch than that joke of a game. Trion lost ALL credibility with the way they handled Defiance.
And yes, the TV show is pretty kick ***.
I would go as far as saying this is the worst Cryptic launch in their history of launches.
Also when will the **** Panther get fixed? Come on Cryptic!
Exactly! Comparing anything to that fail of a game guarantees a win. The original UO BETA with Lord British being killed was already more polished than Defiance. I have been a Rift player for almost 6 months. After Defiance came out, and with the way Trion treated us - I unsubbed and went to DCUO, and here obviously.
NEVER giving Trion my money again.
Agree hellmet, some issues Defiance had in CB, was still there. Add the craptistic PC related issues on launch and you got your tell rage-on-roids crowd. Love the show, but companies need to quit copycutpaste console ports for PC. I played a copy my friend lend to ome on PS3, and was actually playable, but I have Borderlands 1/2 so whateva. But to their credit, they did started to fix some of the issues it was having, plus I believe this is the first MMO they released.
Anyway, back to OP topic, on launch the downloader took forever, then waited for maintence, the updated and that's it for me. I have no issues so far with random crashes, any bugs of sorts; basically it was painless, as stated by many, there have been far worst MMO day 1 launches.
Anarchy Online - Day 1 included people stuck in walls, instances & HAMSTER clipping everywhere to name a few
Final Fantasy XIV is having a re-release called Final Fantasy XIV Rebirth for all three support platforms - Nuff said
Diablo 3 - the beast known as "Error 3006"
Defiance is by Trion Worlds. The company has been around for seven years. This is their second MMO, the first was Rift. They don't really have an excuse.
EDIT: Of course, this is Cryptic's fourth MMO, so they don't have an excuse either. But things will go wrong. That's life. What matters is - as you say - how fast a company responds to the problems.
Yes, yes, and yes. Both launches were lame, but at least Trion gave us all a little something extra in the form of boosts. Cryptic did no such thing.
