OK, first let me apologize if this comes off like a "get off my lawn yah rotten kids!" speech but....

Is it just me who actually got the email that this is an OPEN BETA phase?! Not for nuthin but the fact that the forums are filled with pre-adolescent nerd rage about "WTF did I pay for!" and "OMFG this game is the worst ever!" is a depressing sign of the time and space we live in.

Instant gratification and a gold release candidate quality is now (at least by some apparently) expected in an OPEN BETA??

I have played the game for all of about 5 hrs and you know what I think about the current state of the game? Well I DONT KNOW YET I have had 5 hrs to explore and check it out!

And for those of you who have had more time and have posed constructive criticism's good on ya. But to be honest I really hope that the whiners and troll's go find a bridge to live under in miserable discordance with one another...

There are most certainly bugs and issues that need to be hammered out but for those of you self entitled, all about me, A.D.D. addled folks.

Please, I beg of you, Rage quit now....

Ok so that totally sounds like a "get of my lawn" speech, sorry....

This is standard for all new MMO games. The forums at launch are always a mess. Give it a few weeks and they'll go away.

    It's like I said before,

The outrage is mock outrage, if you do a little digging it's the same twelve people over and over again who are posting 95% of it and if we had access, we would probably see that half of those are from the same IP. (multiple accounts are a fact of like in F2P games ) When you are actually playing the game you hear a lot of praise, a lot of folks asking questions and a lot of LF/group/guild with the occasional lament about cash shop prices.

Basically no rational person is taking the forum silliness seriously.

Cryptic is in a enviable position right now, it's a big middle finger to the crusty unemployed developers screaming about the F2P apocalypse.

Just wait for 80% of the players to leave once they see what a wretched mess PWE have made of this and then enjoy running around an empty instanced 'world' on your own.

It's really the standard for all betas. I've been a part of countless betas for MMOs over the years and it never surprises me to see people claiming how the game sucks because it's 'buggy' or 'crashes' or 'is slow'. It kind of bugs me because I don't often get into the earliest stages of beta but those that do have no concept of what beta is,

That said, this "open beta" is kind of a mixed bag. It sure seems like it's meant to be a live release and the only thing really being 'tested' is the server stress. Maybe it's just the fact that there's no wipe that bugs me, I dunno. Seems more like a live release being called 'beta' to get around having to answer for QC issues.

I started a thread on this a few days ago, got 15+ pages of replies. This is one of the best MMOs I have played up to date. I have absolutely no complaints, and Cryptc/PWE can just TAKEALLMYMONEY :):):)

ADD is a serious condition and shouldn't be thrown around lightly or in way to try and insult someone. Like all the Vets will say, this is par for the course for the Launch of an MMO. I say launch, because this is what they call a " Soft Launch" of the game. It needs to start making money for them to continue improving it so here we are. I wouldn't be so quick to disregard everyone who is upset. Yes rage is one thing and those people have they're own story. For me I've been going through MMO launches for around 9 years now so I've seen them all. I'm not surprised. I'm depressed. Imagine if you had a 10 year stretch of road to look down and still couldn't see what was coming your way. But I also won't rage because they don't care and neither do I . I got sometime in Neverwinter yesterday and I personally love it. Rolled a cleric and I'm having a blast. So yeah, lets not crazy on either end of the spectrum.

On a more serious note though, you are correct, to a certain extent. There will be a mass exodus of players, but I doubt it will be 80%, and that will be for the best anyways. There is a ton of people who are playing right now that are just trying it out because it's the new, shiny, MMO.

On twitch, kripparian, Archon, toweliee, are all popular streamers from other games and they were streaming NWO. This brings both good and bad tidings to the playerbase. Yes, more people will come try out the game because they see their favorite streamers playing it, but more players isn't always a good thing.

Once all of you little 'WoW kids' go back to your world of raids and pandas, that won't be a bad thing for Neverwinter. Certainly wont be a bad thing for the forums, because they will definitely be less cluttered with all your entitled non-sense.

I can understand where the angry people are coming from. I don't agree, but I understand it.

The game is in Open Beta. That's what it's called. But people are going to treat it as an actual launch, because that's what people expect with F2P online games.

The queues are a problem. Now, a lot of us expect this from a new MMO. We've seen it happen with other new games. But just because it's a common problem...doesn't change the fact that it is a problem.

The question now is - how fast can Cryptic respond to these issues? That's the critical thing. And that's what we'll have to see.

I wish this were the case for when The Secret World launched. The good community left and the whiners stayed.
I'm just gonna lurk here for the most part. I personally love the game and most aspects of it, but someone's bound to accuse me of fangirling..which in itself is really annoying. u.u

I totally agree with this, too often we see this and special Olympics being used as derogatory descriptors. The best forums I have been on makes language like this actionable, just like using the R word as a verb and the G word as an insult. I think overall our mods do a good job (and this is coming from someone who has strong reservations about volunteer mods) but I do wish they would be more diligent about things like this.

If posting a meme gif isn't okay, this sure as hell shouldn't be either.

Given the # of ppl online pre-open beta, assuming 1/3 per server, I would say they are profitable already. Looking at the number of THOSE showing off their mounts, a fair number spent some extra $$ too.

I too am a long time gamer and have been involved in many betas in the past. I know this is the case on most forums beta or not. I almost never post and just try to filter out the noise and take aggregate.

For some reason I was motivated to make my rant. I have played D&D since 1979 and I remember actually playing text based game on systems like the TRS-80 and the Apple 2's. I also remember being so excited when UO came out as that is the first graphically based MMO I can remember.

I really do try hard not to be "that guy", I Just couldn't resist posting when gods forbid THE SERVERS WENT DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE DURING A BETA!!!

Ok now Im really done :p

im laughing at all the people that defend the launch problems because of 'open beta'. theres no wipes, they sold the game, and the cash shop is up...make no mistake this was a hard launch.

as such, the game seems very popular..which is good, and overload and issue always happen at a launch for any decent game. i really don't think they expected this kind of population, only having 3 shards is proof of that.

Spare the rod and spoil the child. We see more and more as each year progresses the truth to this adage.

Now to the person who finds the "R" word offensive. HAMSTER was an accepted medical term for over 100 years. I just don't understand being offended by it. It's like people who get offended by the proper names for HAMSTER.

Launches (including soft-launch open betas) are always a rough ride, nominal game populations are always dwarfed by launch day populations. Lots of good games started just like this, people need to relax.

OP, I hope you enjoy your next 5 hours, and all the hours to come after that! I know most people haven't had the extra few days to get settled in that I did, I hope you like what you see once the game is over the launch day hubbub

The thing is adding more shards isn't going to fix the issues, there is a metric HAMSTER ton of people from all over the world hitting the servers 24/7 if the game stays this popular (which it won't) they would have to look at going to a different server architecture because adding more servers to the hunt on the unified server will only buy you so much. But as I said it won't happen, this rough patch is going to be forgotten in two to three weeks, then folks can move on to crying about balance, the dungeons being to hard/too easy and the ever famous "0Mgzorz t3h cash shop!!!"

First off it is NOT really "Open Beta". They are just SAYING "Open Beta" so they have an excuse for all the bugs, etc.., so they don't get a bad rap for a crappy launch, period. They can always revert to this pseudo launch and say, "Well, it was STILL Open Beta". Nice try but I can see through this BS.

Do you really think when people spend $60 and $200 to become founders and get special privileges, only to not get what they paid for, and to not be upset when they don't get it? Are you insane? We/they have every right to complain, it has NOTHING to do with Open Beta. And this game is NOT even close to FREE!!! Don't be fooled.

You only played for 5hrs.? And therein lies the problem. You have NO CLUE what you are talking about, nor the right to judge or criticize anyone. Please follow your own advise, I beg of you, Rage quit now...

I'll put it this way; if you're releasing an open beta, you'd better make sure that your servers can handle at least double your expected peak interest. OB is just a way for PWE to open the Zen floodgates with minimal responsibility to actually fix anything.

I was in no way complaining about the state of the game for precisely that reason I HAVE NO CLUE yet. Nor does ANYONE else whether you've been in closed beta or not.

I have worked on the other side of the fence for a few pretty major titles, I DO understand the complexities and variable's of creating any game let alone an MMO for a beloved IP.

    *Yes open beta isn't real
*The colours red and black in the log in screen are to get you to buy more Zen.
*Cryptic is creating the lag to force you to buy the Hotn pack
*Jack Emmert just hired Elvis and Hendrix to score the 1st expansion pack which you will have to buy to be able to log in.
