In-game @name and forum display name do not match...

I discovered this site and created a new account one night, and as part of that process i created this forum display name, Zbkolde. The next day, i purchased a founder's pack. In trying to complete the process, i kept getting a "Display Name Conflict" error page. So, in order to finish it and apply the purchased pack to my account, i had to type in a new display name. This was my post in a different thread about that:

I created an account for Neverwinter last night. This morning i purchased the Hero of the North pack. While the transaction completed, i got an email saying i needed to "redeem" my founder's pack, but then i just get the "Display Name Conflict" error page. I just created this account last night. I do not have any options for changing my forum title as described in the op of this thread. I have logged out, closed my browser, and rebooted my computer, still no "permissions" option.

In looking for information, i realized that STO also uses Cryptic. I tried STO back in 2010, just the free-trial. I was able to locate an email from 2010 showing my account name, which is different from the account name i used last night. When i tried to "link" the accounts, i have no idea what my password for the STO account was, and cannot reset it because when i enter my email address, the system only recognizes the account i created last night for Neverwinter. Entering my email address only accesses this account username and password information, even though it's the same email i used in 2010 for the STO account. Is this why i'm having trouble? And if so, what can i do about it?

Edit/update: I just went ahead and typed in a new "Display Name," then finally everything else showed up. But, my display name here on the forums is still the same, it didn't change to the new display name i typed in. Oh well, i got pretty blue letters now. :)

As you can see, my forum display name never changed, it is still Zbkolde. But, on the launcher, and for my in-game "@handle," it uses the new name. My friends' forum and in-game names match, but mine do not. Does anyone else have this issue? It does not seem to be hindering my account or gameplay experience, but it's a glitch that bugs me.

I think there was another person with similar issue. Maybe you should make a ticket and ask support? They can give you a more definitive answer.

I've already submitted a few tickets, no one ever answers.

Just wondered how many people this was affecting. As of now, i cannot connect my character to my forum profile. I know it's only beta, and really don't know if that feature has been activated yet. But i can't help but wonder if somewhere down the road when the game is on in full force, if this glitch will cause me problems like that.

Still waiting on a reply from customer support. I keep reading other people say they reply right away and solve issues, but i'm not seeing it. I have four old tickets that i eventually just closed myself because i never got an answer. Now i have a 5th ticket, still open, still waiting for a reply. All i ever get is an "auto-response", which is just a bunch of links.

One of the links is about the account linking process:
    https://support.perfectworld.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4134

I tried repeatedly to link my old inactive STO account to no avail, because i couldn't remember my password and couldn't get a reset to work using my email. Finally last night, somehow, i believe i got them linked. I can now log in to the STO web site using my PWE/Neverwinter account info. So i guess that means they're linked. I only ever played STO for a few days, then uninstalled it and never looked back. (Not that there is anything wrong with STO, i just chose another mmo over it.)

According to that page i linked above, they should be able to change my in-game @handle to match my forum name, which is what i have been asking for all along. Still no reply, still waiting. I'd like to get this all straightened out before the game goes live.

The conflict was indeed because of the old STO name. Your forum name, @handle and account name can all be different. I wanted to have my @handle changed to match my forum name but they would not do it. Currently, the only change they will make is if your account name that you log in with matches your forum name or @handle. And they will only change that because it is a security risk for your account to have the account name visible to other players.

    :(

What i don't understand is why i had to type in a different @handle name anyway. True, i don't remember what my @handle was for that couple of days i played STO, and i'm not going to download the game again to find out. But it seems as though i remember it being the same as my account name that i created to try STO, which i didn't like. I could be wrong. Either way, i'd really like to have my @handle changed.

Update: My husband logged in to STO and confirmed that my @handle there was the same as my account name i created to try it. Still very frustrating that any of that matters at all, as this is not STO, this is Neverwinter. I don't want to play STO, i want to play Neverwinter. I created an account for Neverwinter, and now i can't use the name i chose, and that was accepted, when i created the account.

Note: This issue is starting to become a game-breaker for me. It may sound trivial to most, but for a few different reasons, it's bothering me enough to overshadow the game. Not only the naming issue, but also the idea of being ignored by customer support for the past month in trying to resolve it.

Still waiting for a reply from customer support.

Meanwhile, i occasionally get locked out of the forums, does anyone else experience this? Last night i double-clicked my short-cut icon on my desktop to see the forums, like i always do. It's supposed to keep me logged in. Instead of seeing the forums, i see an error message saying i failed to log in too many times and was banned for 10 minutes. How is that? I didn't type in anything, all i did was double-click my short-cut icon. I went and did some other things for awhile and came back around 20-30 minutes later to try again. I had been logged out somehow, so had to enter my log-in info, one time, correctly entered from my post-it note stuck to the bottom of my monitor... but i got the same error message again. This is not the first time this has happened, it's what a couple of those other ignored support tickets are about. For whatever reason, i'm always logged in to the support area, even when i can't log in to see the forums.

Back to the topic of the thread...

Here is a reminder summary of the main points of my issue:

    1. I created an account to play Neverwinter, entered the display name of my choice when instructed to do so, and that name, ZBKolde, was accepted and assigned to me. It is mine. It was not rejected when i created the account, it was accepted and assigned to my account.

    2. After paying for a founder's pack, after the money transaction was complete, i was forced to choose a different name in order to claim the pack i had just purchased. I submitted a ticket before doing so, but it was never answered.

    3. The old inactive STO account information is irrelevant. My account name there was not zbkolde, my handle there was not @zbkolde. I have linked that account to the PWE/Neverwinter account i recently created.

    4. Their FAQ page says they can change my @handle. So, i want my @handle changed back to what i chose when i created my account, that was accepted and assigned to me.

Cryptic has it's own system for screen names (the @handle) - and here's the rub: if you have created a Cryptic account before creating your Perfect World account - the name on your Cryptic account stays put. I had a Cryptic @handle a year before PWE came along (and I was actually never happy with my @handle - EVAR) - I had asked Cryptic support (before PWE) for a handle change - no-go (description below). I created my PWE account (with my "Angry Sprite" screen name) long before the merging was required, and even merged the account long before required.

SIDE NOTE: I discovered a Cryptic system BUG: My Cryptic account was set-up with one email address, my PWE with another. All STO communication is *still* sent to the old Cryptic account email address. Since I joined CO after merging the Cryptic/PWE - all CO communication comes to the updated email account (attached to me PWE account). Neverwinter email NEVER SHOWS UP.

Anyway - so I sent another ticked for 1) an email address change to match my PWE account and 2) screen name change to match my PWE account. This is to Cryptic support, not PWE Support, but specifically Cryptic.

I got a reply after a few days (they DO say replies take 3-4 business days) and the answer regarding screen name change is the same as before and that is this (paraphrased): "We do not allow screen name changes except when there is a security issue where the screen name and account name are the same".

In short: Cryptic will NOT change screen names. Had I understood this clearly, I would have whacked the account and created a new one - but alas I'm already a lifetime on that account. In short: if you want to change your screen name on the Cryptic system: create a NEW account (meaning a new PWE account THEN new Cryptic account.

I agree: it sucks big willie.

As for the email issue, the reply is that it "must be a bug" that they've "never seen before". So I'm going to resubmit that ticket focussing only on the email address issue.

I understand everything you said... but let me point out again...

My STO/Cryptic @handle is NOT zbkolde, and it is NOT the @handle i have now. I don't play STO anyway, and right now i seriously regret ever even trying for that couple of days three years ago.

I just created my PWE account last month, and it accepted Zbkolde and assigned it to me. It forced me to change it AFTER i paid money for the founder's pack. It did NOT keep my STO @handle, and it did NOT keep my Neverwinter display name. It forced me to make a new name, and that new name is what ended up being my @handle, instead of the name i chose the night before i paid the money.

To add: Also, if it wasn't clear in my other posts... this issue started when i created a brand new PWE account without realizing it was even tied to Cryptic. It was brand new, brand new account name, and brand new display name. I created the account on February 18th. On February 19th i purchased a founder's pack, and that is when i was forced to make a new display name. My forum name didn't change, so it wasn't until beta weekend (March 8th) that i learned what my @handle was. I did not get my old STO/Cryptic account linked to my brand new PWE account until a couple days ago, and i ONLY did that because of following their "auto-response" links from my submitted tickets. I have not played STO, or in any other way used my Cryptic account, in three years, and i have no intention to do so.

I have had the same issues.
My log in, screen name and @ name are all different. Its infuriating. I have to remember three names for one game and its forums?

Additionally I have also been ignored by GM's and Customer Service on every single bug/issue I have submitted. My character was stuck in Blacklake for 30 mins before I gave up on a GM helping me and found my own solution.

Day 5, still no reply from customer support.

By the way, i'm posting all this here because i've seen admins reply to people on these forums and help people with their issues. If they are business oriented, they have no clue what the problem is. If they were gamers, they'd KNOW how important our in-game identities are. Seeing how they've already thought it a good plan to connect all three games together to have the same identity, i'm assuming they're the former.

Finally heard from a really nice person at Customer Support. You others may be happy to hear that it has been brought to the attention of the developers and they may allow @handle changes in the future. But, for now, basically, i can't be @zbkolde, because there's already a zbkolde, which is me, because i already used the name zbkolde, so now i can't use @zbkolde.

Anyway, for now, my issue has been handled to my satisfaction. See you guys next weekend. :)

the whole process confuses me as well...i redeemed a beta key, but i had to make a whole new email and username for it because i forgot my old info...now it wont recognize the new email and password i literally just created...and the game client lets me sign in with my old info that i just remembered a few minutes ago..so i'm worried if the beta key i redeemed is useless now? or are all the accounts i made connected through my ip adress so that key will now work with my old login info?? idk someone help me lol

:( Oh no. You should submit a ticket if you haven't already... just be prepared to wait several days for a reply. Many people have had trouble with setting up accounts and applying beta keys. Keep browsing the forums for help in the meantime.

    Submit a ticket here... https://support.perfectworld.com/app/home

I hope you get it straightened out. Seems account issues are hindering the enjoyment of the game, and it's an awesome game so far.

Agreed - Cryptic/PWE support folks are friendly and really do try to help. The Screen Name matching @Handle is a minor (albeit frustrating) issue. My issue of more concern was the difference in email address I had with Cryptic on my STO account being different from my email address on CO/NWO/PWE account.

So I explained in as much detail what I did and what is happening. I received an email yesterday (about 5 days I think after submitting my ticket) saying it's fixed. Just got a promo email from Star Trek Online and zing! It's fixed! Now ALL email from Cryptic/PWE will come through on the same account and I can finally KILL that old email account (it has become a spam cesspool).

    **********

I'll explain my dilemma because I suspect there are other old Cryptic account holders who may be in the same boat and not even realize it:

I signed on with Star Trek Online (STO) when it first went live. Created an account with password with Screen Name and Email address. No reason to ever change any of it (except password, of course). A year later: PWE Acquires Cryptic, all Cryptic account holders are required to create PWE accounts, then "merge them".

I did this before it was required. However, the merge did NOT "correct" the email address associated with my STO account at Cryptic (different email registered for PWE account). Everything else merged just fine. However I never noticed this. THEN there is the issue of beta testers (Founders, specifically) NOT receiving any email from Cryptic Neverwinter staff. So Looked into any possible problems.

That's when I discovered all STO emails are coming to my old email account. My CO and NWO (NWO bulk emails, that is) are coming to the NEW email (since I was already merged to PWE when I joined CO and obviously NWO).

Though I don;t think this issue is related to NWO Beta-User emails NOT coming through AT ALL - It was concerning enough to ticket. I did, explained it and voila: fixed.

NOW I need the NWO staff to please fix the email system to Founders! LOL Even these FORUMS are not sending me emails (I am subscribed to a few threads - ummm, no.)

@antdreezy559: I suspect this is what is happening TO YOU. The problem you have now is that you have TWO accounts: One is your old Cryptic account, the other is the NEW account you created through PWE and they are NOT linked "merged". I suspect your beta key is now lost in limbo. Put in a support ticket, explain that you already had a old Cryptic account, created the NEW PWE account without realizing they needed to be merged and that is why your PWE account into Cryptic system is not working.

As the support team to MERGE the two accounts: OLD Cryptic Account with NEW PWE Account - give them both emails and whatever other details you can, be polite, and be very patient. Do it NOW and hopefully things will be fixed by Friday.

I have this issue too. I am a CO lifer and created a Cryptic account for that years ago when the game launched, I had to create a new PWE account but I used the same email address I used for my Cryptic account.

Now my login name, forum name and in-game name are all completely different. I had the worst headache trying to get PWE to apply my Founder Pack to the right account and this basically precluded me from playing any of the last Beta as they couldn't get back to me in time. I eventually got it sorted (allegedly) on Tuesday but I will obviously find out next weekend in the beta if this is the case. Trying to link my old Cryptic account and my new PWE account was incredibly awkward and I still have no idea if it was actually correctly processed.

I actually have the same issue and for the same reason as the OP. When I decided to buy a founder pack I registered a new account on the neverwinter website, signed in, then bought the founder pack. After buying the founder pack, it would not accept the @name that I had just created for Neverwinter claiming that there was a conflict so I had to create a new @name which is now the @name that appears in all my Cryptic games when I login but my forum @name is completely different.

I wish you had the option of either displaying your forum @name or your in-game @name.

Someone else most likely has already chosen that @handle for their game but, like you, have a different forum username. You'll need to wait for support for assistance.

If you're talking about "Connecting a Character to the Core Connect Profile" - unfortunately the Core Connect doesn't support Cryptic Games at the moment anyway, so this may be why you cannot see them to connect them?

I know on my 2nd account that has a different Forum Name and @handle, I can still connect my other PWE Games to Core Connect despite not being able to sync that account's handle and forum name.

Me too, same exact problem. My forum account name and PWE account name is valdorax but my in game handle is @valdoriax. The reason for this difference was the same as the OP when signing up. Name conflict. Dumb.

Well I can't even get the founders pack after buying it.
It told me I had to change my name, I have tried every over 100 random names, most with just random letters and numbers and still says doesn't work.
Sorry but pretty cheesed. I opened a ticket, after reading here I doubt I will get a reply and will just then ask for a refund and give up on this game.
I don't care what my name is on the forum, just don't know why it won't give me what I purchased on my account to the only character I have on that account. How hard is it for that to happen.

. . . . . Press ALT and then right-click your character portrait/status bar. You can also see it in the Social menu as well as by right-clicking your name in chat or by enabling the display of @handles in chat through the Chat Options.

Same problem here. No matter how many different names I give it, it never accepts a single one. Even crazy names that are highly unlikely to be used before get rejected. It seems to be a problem with the page itself, not what I'm typing in. Anyone have a fix for this at all? Put in a ticket but no response back yet...
