Unfortunately, I haven't had too many run-ins with the Forgotten Realms, in my pen and paper experience.
I'd love to be part of a campaign set in a region that were in as tense a mood as Thay. The city of Escalant, occupied by the red wizards as it is, but yet open enough to not be stifling (back in 3rd/3.5th edition, as I haven't kept in touch with 4E's history), sounds like the perfect starting point for a great aventure.
As far as computer games go, I would have to say Neverwinter has captured my attention.
I loved the way it was portrayed as more than a place, an actual living, breathing environment. Finding out why the city was given its name was icing on the cake.
I look forward to finding out how it is faring after the spellplague, and rediscovering it anew.

Menzoberranzan would be nice, I red the books from Salvatore and from what I remember this town should be really impressive with a lot of light effects and strange creatures running around. Moreover, I love the drows

Shadowdale is the best to start from as it had the most interesting things around it for adventures, Myth Dranor, Zhentil Keep and of course the one and only Elminster for those interesting adventurs. And also because it was the birth place of the Forgotten Realms
