Most of my D&D gaming was pre-FR, Greyhawk and stuff, or worlds the GM crafted themselves.
Is there a good reference for world lore short of buying a load of stuff from WotC?

Arabel was a classic setting for most of my campaigns. You have the Dalelands to the North, with mysterious Elminster then to the south was Suzail the capital city of Cormyr. Just a LOT of adventures to branch out from. "During the Time of Troubles Lady Luck herself protected the city" ...cant get luckier than that
