Neverwinter is based upon the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (or just "The Realms") which is set in the world of Faerun. The Forgotten Realms Campaign was created by Ed Greenwood around 1967.
First D&D game was published in 1974, and even first considered RPG, Chainmail, is 1971 old. You have made Forgotten Realms 20 years older than it is.

It is based on the Forgotten Realms campaign Setting. On the Prime Material plane on the Plannet of Abei Toril on the continent of Faerun. & Neverwinter the city itself is on the northish end of what is called the Sword coast.

If I was to pinpoint the original storyline theme for pinpoint I would point first to the huge array of characters, their adventures, their stories and tales involving the epic wars, horrific creatures, demigods, and wistful fantastic beings that make up the fabled Forgotten Realms .
